Plan now to attend the 2009International SalonSpa BusinessNetwork’s Annual Conference
On behalf of the International SalonSpa Business
Network (ISBN) Board of trustees, I want to extend
a warm invitation for you to join us for our Annual
Conference May 31 - June 2, 2009. If you are not
already a member of ISBN, we would welcome
you to join as there are many tangible benefits
of belonging to and participating in ISBN that
offset the nominal annual membership fee
many times over.
We continue to build on the success of our name change from the International Chain Salon
Association, and our Conference in 2009 will keep a strong emphasis on networking for owners and
executives of multi-unit salons and spas. If your company owns multiple salon/spa locations,
attending ISBN’s Conference gives you your best chance to stay on top of the many changes
our industry is experiencing, especially important in these difficult times. Our association offers
salon and spa owners an opportunity to belong to an inclusive network of companies that shares
information and ideas.
One hallmark of our annual Conference that
has remained constant over the years is our
tradition of hosting the Conference in
fantastic locations. This year we will return
(by popular demand) to the Ritz-Carlton,
Amelia Island, a beautiful hotel in a picture-
perfect setting right on the Atlantic Ocean.
Wonderful, wide sandy beaches and
Southern Charm highlight this showcase
property. Many plan to come early or stay
over to enjoy this resort at the great rates
that we have negotiated for attendees.
3
This year our Conference will feature extensive networking opportunities -
not only how to cut costs to build profits, but
how to aggressively take advantage of the
unique opportunities the current economic
downturn presents to those who are prepared
to capture market share. Our membership is
comprised of some of the most successful
salon and spa operators in the country, who
are willing to share their secrets on how to
not only survive tough times, but to prosper.
Where there is crisis, there is opportunity!
We will also feature Mel Kleiman on recruiting
and retaining outstanding team members.
Mel is an industry expert in the techniques of
how to recruit and retain the people we need to
be successful, and how the current economy
affects us and our team members. None of us
can deliver the client experience we need to grow and thrive without a highly motivated
team in place, and Mel is going to help us learn how to do that better.
We also have an outstanding group of sponsors who attend to introduce new products to
decision-makers, establish new relationships and strengthen existing relationships. Each year
we come away with some great ideas from our sponsors, who run the gamut from software
point-of-sale providers, product manufacturers of all types, equipment manufacturers and
providers of unique business services.
We look forward to seeing you at the Ritz-Carlton in beautiful Amelia Island, Florida May 31 -
June 2, 2009. We guarantee that you will learn lots and have a lot of fun at the same time!
Warm regards,
Gordon Logan

Why ‘Good’ is No LongerGood EnoughMonday, June 110:30 am - 12:30 pm
In the Salon and Spa business, people are the core of your
business. If your organization is going to succeed in today’s
hyper-competitive market place, there is one critical task that
you and your managers have to get right: attracting, hiring
and retaining great employees. You’ve got to hire tough so
you can manage easy. Making the wrong hiring decisions begins a cycle of frustration,
resulting in poor customer service, crushing employee morale and just making everybody’s
life MISERABLE, especially yours! In this fast paced session, you will walk away with new tools,
tips and techniques that will make your job easier and take the guess work out of hiring and
retaining your next great employee,
