Saturday, August 8

9:00 AM - Noon and 2:00 - 5:00 PMChurch / Pantry Gardens This tour will take you to several communities, churches and gardens that provide fresh produce to food pantries and soupkitchens. In the last few years, Columbus has seen an increased number of these types of gardens that are growing food for theirlocal communities and for those in dire need. Many are church led and are utilizing the gardens not only for food donations but foryouth and senior programs, nutritional programming and asoutreach to bring new members into their fold.

Newly Developed Gardens This tour will give you the opportunity to offer input to local

community groups who are just beginning the process of buildingcommunity gardens. Bring your expertise and design skills withyou and be ready to offer insight to these new or expandingprojects in Columbus. Many of these projects are now realizing thetrials, tribulations and successes of first year gardens, while othersmay still be an empty lot or field that has yet to break ground.

School & Youth Gardens How do schools deal with summer garden maintenance? Whatwill the you learn in these outdoor environments? How areteachers, parents and community involved not only in the gardenbut the process of creating it? Learn how these gardens canbecome experiential playspaces, learning labs, outlets for creativity

in the arts, offer lessons in nutrition and increase the opportunityto hone math, science, reading and writing skills. Besides all that, youth just simply find the gardens fun!

Corporate Gardens The days of the Victory and War Gardens brought vegetablegardens to nearly every large factory and many small businessesthroughout America. New corporate gardens are emerging again toprovide employee perks, health and wellness opportunities and often mandate a portion of the produce be donated to food banks. These gardens offer their associates free space to grow their ownfood, flowers and herbs, to bring their families in on weekends togarden and to give back to the community. This tour will take youto two large corporate headquarters on the outskirts of Columbus

who are creating a model for other large companies to follow.

Bicycle Tour 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM Join us for the first ever Gears and Gardens: Annual ColumbusCommunity Garden Bike Tour !
