ATMs and transaction terminalsATMs and transaction terminals
ATMs are the most common device for interaction with banks
The number of available ATMs has risen greatly since 70’s
Progressive introduction on daily live, and familiarity in the society [eg. young people uses ATMs more intensely and broadly]
Beyond traditional banking actions, ATMs tend to offer a wider range of services [event ticketing, topping up the mobile, surfing the Internet, etc.]
Will ATMs converge to access points to services of e-government, tourism, leisure, etc.?

Mobile interaction and interoperabilityMobile interaction and interoperability
Accessibility through user mobile devices for interacting with other devices or services is an accessibility trend:
Familiarity with the device
Mobility and autonomy
Several connectivity protocols
Computational capabilities
Wide range of pre-installed ATs
Accesibility + Interoperability + Ubiquity

Assisstive technologiesAssisstive technologies
Some ATMs provide integrated assistive technologies, but:
Lack of standardization
Proprietary and closed systems
High cost
There is no consensus across networks of banks
Different applications in different geographic areas (regions, countries)
Future: AEGIS project
The Promoting ubiquitous ATs is being researched
• International: “Raising the” floor initiative
European: Abilitynet (UK) + INREDIS project (2M euro for basic research).
National initiatives: Barclays (UK + Spanish branch) + la Caixa (Spain)

TechnologiesCommunication: NFC and WIFI, using WIFI Protected Setup. Other contact technologies Security: EAP-WSC and WPA2/AES (network level), HTTPS (client-server level). Other options.Interfaces: Web technologies with WCAG and MWI best practicesInteroperability: interoperability architectures (URC-UCH), web services and other secure interoperability solutions.
Detected market barriersATMs do not include wireless communication technologies (NFC, WIFI and similar)Mobile devices do not combine NFC and WIFI or other potential solutions with accessibility characteristics. [Working progress with Nokia]
