EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Geneva 2008 provides a vision of how technologies will move from premium segments to small cars.
1. Geneva 2008 Auto show is focussed on small and hybrid cars. Designers work along the downsizing trend and concentrate innovative approaches to the interior and exterior styling of headlamps and rear lamps, with increased use of LED technology to save volume and space. Example: Toyota IQ, Dodge Zeo 2. Relatively few new concept cars. Most of presented concept cars were already presented at Tokyo or Detroit. Some of the concept cars unveiled at Geneva 2007 or Frankfort 2007 are now presented like production cars: Example: Toyota IQ, Renault Koleos, Ford Kuga and Fiesta (Verve)
3. Smaller headlamps are becoming fashionable. Smaller headlamps and smaller functional light area with some extension for styling effect. Example: Buick Riviera, Lincoln MKT, Land Rover, Honda CRZ, Mitsubishi RA, Nissan Forum
4. Front and rear of the car are becoming the main areas for attractive innovation.
• Innovation with the outline of headlamp and rear lamp styling. Example: Saturn PlugIn, Buick Riviera, Lincoln MKT, Land Rover CRX, Ford Explorer America
• Innovation with the interior design of headlamps. Example: Lincoln MKT, Honda CRZ, Honda Pilot, Mitsubishi RA
5. Perceived quality is more and more sustained by vehicle lamps.
It is becoming a “must”. Most production cars now show some innovation on perceived quality Example: Honda FCX Clarity
6. Strong interest in green cars decreases discussion of safety systems. Only Audi and Renault communicate on safety systems and Hella present a panel of lighting systems
7. Main directions on headlamp style trends confirmed
• Contour of the headlamp is redesigned with an innovative approach. Example: Lexus LFA, Fioravanti
• Some optics, functional or not, surround the projector module, adding technological value to the headlight. Example: Mitsubishi Prototype S, Dodge Zeo, Cadillac Provoq.
• New optical concepts, functional or not, emphasise the need for volume reduction and flexibility in shapes. Example: Lincoln MKT, Honda CRZ, Opel Meriva, Laguna Coupe

AUDI Communication
Audi presents in detail its 5 driver assistance features:
• Adaptive cruise Control which warns the driver if an approach is dangerous ACC maintains the preset speed, taking the distance to the vehicle in front in account, by automatically accelerating and decelerating in the speed range of 30km/h‐200km/h.
ACC includes braking guard. Audi braking guard is always active and will also emit a warning when adaptive CC is deactivated;
If the system has detected a situation of imminent danger, Audi guard generates a warning jolt with a brief application of the brakes.
• Audi Side Assist for greater safety when changing lane ASA informs the driver there is no vehicle in the approach zone in the blind spot and it is safe to change lane.
• Audi Parking System for safe and easy parking APS is automatically activated when reverse gear is engaged. The picture picked up by the reverse camera appears as a mirror image on the display. In addition, a recurring warning tone indicates the driver how much distance remains to the obstacle.
• Audi Lane Assist to prevent unintentionally lane change ALA or Lane Departure Warning System, detects an unintentionally lane change and warns the driver with a mechanically generated vibration of the steering wheel
• Adaptive Light for a dynamic cornering light. When the vehicle is moving, dynamic cornering light illuminates the road by turning the headlight module according to the speed and the steering angle

CONCLUSION
Geneva continues to be like NIAS, one of the rare Auto Shows to open every year.
Small cars and Hybrid cars are the main focus of Geneva Auto Show 2008. The trend towards “smaller cars” started in Geneva last year and is now confirmed after Frankfort, Detroit and Geneva this year
Nevertheless, car makers have managed to combine energy reduction and exciting‐looking cars. LED, already a styling lever is becoming an energy reduction argument.
The style of headlamps is changing. Designers are working on the contour, dimensions and optical systems inside the headlamp.
Geneva 2008 provides a Vision of how advanced technologies and innovative styling will gradually move from premium segments to small and less‐costly cars.
