    A. Description of Amherst County1. They are blessed with talented athletes.a. Their front 8 are extremely fast, the nose guard is the slowest and he runs a 4.9 40.

    2. Moving to the 3-5-3a. Began coaching a 5-3, read and react guy, and was very skeptical of change.

    b. Initially called the 3-5 a Flex 5-3c. Moved because it fit their personnel better than the 53

    B. Defensive Stats1. 13-1 AA State Champs2. 128 point in 14 games

    a. 59 points through the 10 games of the regular season

    b. 1st

    defense gave up 86 points in 14 games and only 38 in the regular season3. 8 defensive touchdowns for 48 points4. 5 shutouts5. As the year went on, they began to win games with defense, without the offense scoring

    2. Blitz Drilla. Essentially just the repping of blitzes.

    I. General Thoughts on Football

    A. Attend and Support state and local clinicsB. Coaching is a fraternity, you should pull for and support everyone.C. Defense is simple. Find the ball, get there quick and hit him.D. Thoughts on the Game & Coaching

    1. Football is not a simple game anymore, but we have to keep it simple for the kids2. Kids come from all walks of life, we have to be able to deal with all kinds of folks.

    a. Ought to be able to walk with kings, peasants and all between.3. If you want to coach, you have to be prepared to be at school a lot.

    i. Start and End each and every practice the exact same way Tell the kids you love them Kids are our product. Make something youre proud of.

    ii. After practice, break into position groups and ask kids about life, and how things are going. j. Uniforms: Keep them consistent. Bills were the same when he retired as when he started.k. Weights: Play the school fight song the whole time. Get excited, have fun in there.l. The Fundamentals of Football

    A. Workout Schedule1. Be in the weight room as much as possible

    2. In a 7 period day, there are 6 weight classes.3. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday are lifting daysB. Game days

    1. Meet at 7 AM w/ the kids2. Go through agilities, and the last 15 minutes have some sort of fun competition3. Everyone gets T-shirts to wear to look the same when they workout

    C. Linemen Challenge1. Strength Challenge with the big boys.2. Use various drills or events for the competition

    D. 7 on 7s1. These help the D too2. You can teach schemes during this time3. It also gets the kids interested in the off season.

    III. Pre-SeasonA. AM Technique Practice

    1. All 3 Phases are practiced2. 8-9 AM Defense3. 9-10 AM Offense4. 10-10:30 AM Special Teams

    B. Transitional Meeting1. 15 min each of offense and defense.2. This meeting ties the morning and afternoon practice sessions together.

    C. PM Group and Team Practice1. Afternoon/2 nd practice installs schemes that relate to the morning techniques.

    D. Tough Scrimmages1. Keep all scrimmages tough during the pre-season.

    IV. In-Season PracticeA. Start practice with stretch then conditioningB. Special teams is first phase of game taught each day.

    1. Monday is Individual skill day2. Tuesday is Position/Group Work 3. Wednesday is a team day

    C. Practice Offense and Defense Daily1. O & D alternate back and forth throughout practice to simulate a game

    D. Live Situations at the End of Practice1. Goalline, 2 minutes drill, etc are saved for the end of practice

    E. Stay in the Routine1. The week they were 2 and 4 was no different practice wise than the week they were playing for

    the state championship.V. Post Season

    A. Banquet

    1. Spotlight the Seniorsa. Give them a Game Jersey and a scrap book to remember the year

    B. Coaches Meeting1. Evaluated each kid w/ all of the coaches the Sunday after the season ends

    C. Individual Player Meetings1. Meet with each kid in Jan or Feb. The eval is based on the coaches meeting at the end of the

    1. Basically just meet w/ each coach to see what they need to improve upon, and what they think needs to be improved upon.

    VI. Program Extras

    A. Teacher of the Week 1. Voted on by the kids and announced before school each Friday2. The Teacher gets to wear a game Jersey for the day and to attend the pre-game meal.

    B. Linemen Breakfast1. Linemen meet for breakfast @ 7:30 each game day at the local breakfast buffet. No other group
