1. NEVER “DRY FIRE” YOUR BOW. Dry fire meansto draw and release the bowstring without an arrow.Firing a bow without an arrow to absorb the energycan cause severe damage to your bow and possibleinjury to the shooter or others nearby. Let-down thebow slowly and carefully from any drawn position.

3. CAREFULLY INSPECT YOUR BOW BEFOREEACH USE. Carefully note the condition of the bow-string, limbs and riser before you shoot. Frayed bow-strings should be replaced. Damaged or suspectlimbs should be reported to your local dealer forinspection or replacement.

4. BE SURE OF YOUR BACKSTOP. Make sure thatthe backstop you use is large enough to catch a strayarrow and that it is thick enough that the arrow can-not completely penetrate it. Make sure that it is posi-tioned in a safe direction away from dwellings andother people.

5. BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET. Make sure that thereare no persons, livestock, buildings or other objectsbehind or near your target. Be absolutely sure of yourtarget in low light conditions.

6. INSPECT ALL ARROWS. Before shooting, inspectyour arrows for defects. Discard cracked or dentedshafts. Replace damaged or loose fletching and nocks.

7. ALWAYS BE SAFE. Never shoot straight up. Wearsafety glasses when working on and shooting yourbow. Be careful around strings and cables when usingbroadheads. Cutting strings and cables can causeserious damage to your bow and possible injury toyou or others. Do not draw the bow beyond its max-imum draw length. Never point or aim a drawn bowat another person. Children must be supervised by anadult.

8. READ AND HEED ALL WARNINGS. Hoyt cannotbe held responsible for injuries suffered or caused bymisuse, unsafe or improper arrow and bow combina-tions. Hoyt cannot be held responsible for injuriessustained when using an altered or modified Hoytbow.

COMPOUND BOW MAINTENANCE

Your bow is a mechanical device and as such, is sub-ject to wear and need of periodic inspection, adjust-ment and service. Hoyt recommends that you takeyour bow to a Hoyt authorized pro shop at least oncea year for a yearly professional maintenance andinspection. Areas to be inspected are axles, spacers,lubrication of axle bushings (Hoyt Cam & 1/2 Systembows do not require axle bushing lubrication), e-clips,strings, cables, limbs and riser.

The following information provides helpful instruc-tion on the proper care and maintenance of your newHoyt bow. Keep this manual as a handy guide forfuture reference.

STRINGS AND CABLESApply a light coat of bowstring wax to your bow’scables and string on a regular basis. Hoyt suggestsonce every two weeks during peak use. Use a highquality bowstring wax available at your local Hoytpro shop. This will keep your bow’s strings andcables in good condition. To assure best resultsreplace your string and cables when wear is evidentor every two years under normal use conditions.

Insist that Hoyt string and cables be used on yourbow. Some Hoyt bow models come equipped withthe FUSE Custom String System. In those cases,always replace your strings with FUSE brand strings.Beware of lesser quality string and cables as they mayalter the performance of your bow or cause damage toit.

ECCENTRIC LUBRICATIONCam & 1/2 System bows feature sealed ball bearingswhich do not require lubrication.

For conventional bearings or bushings, a light spotlubrication of the axles where they pass through theeccentric should be done on a regular basis (1,500 -2,000 shots). In adverse hunting conditions wheredirt, dust or moisture are encountered, lubricationmay be done on a daily basis. Hoyt recommends youuse a silicone or Teflon based lubrication or any otherquality grease available at your local Hoyt Pro Shop.It is not recommended that you use “Penetrating Oils”such as WD-40, EZ-#7, Fast Break, etc.

BOW PRESS USENever allow your bow to be put into a bow pressunless it is operated by a knowledgeable bow techni-cian. Hoyt recommends that all necessary adjust-ments requiring the use of a bow press be done by anauthorized Hoyt pro shop.

Always use a double bow press like that shownin figure 1 when working on your bow. Neveruse a single pull bow press. (See fig 2)

COMPOUND BOW SETUP

REST SELECTIONThere are three basic types of arrow rests: ShootThrough, Fall Away, and Shoot Around. Hoytrecommends that you seek the advice of a quali-fied pro shop for the proper rest selection foryour style of shooting.

Before putting your bow in a bow press, loosenboth the top and bottom weight lock screws andweight adjustment bolts 5 to 7 turns from maxi-mum weight (when limb bolts are fastened all theway down). When putting your bow in thepress, never put pressure on the riser! Alwaysposition the rollers at the base of the limbs (wherethe limbs enter the limb pockets). (See fig 3)

NOCK SET INSTALLATIONA nock point is a reference on the string thatmarks the exact location for you to nock yourarrow. The arrow’s nock is positioned under thenock set. To install the nock set at the properposition begin by slipping the nock set on thestring. Then, using your rest as a reference, posi-tion the nock set just above level. A finger shoot-er should initially position the nock set atapproximately 3/16” above level. The releaseshooter should position the nock set so that thearrow sits at a 90 degree angle with the stringand adjust height as needed. (See fig 4) Once thenock set is at the desired location use a special setof nocking pliers to crimp the nock set into place.NEVER shoot a bow without a nock set or with anock set that has not been properly crimped. Forproper installation Hoyt recommends that this bedone by a qualified pro shop.

C A B L E G U A R D I N S TA L L AT I O NAll Hoyt bows are designed with a built in cableg u a rd bar attachment. Before mounting the cableg u a rd bar, you must remove the ru b b e r b a n d sused only for shipping purposes. To insert thecable guard bar, simply slide the bar through thetwo mounting holes on the riser making sure thatthe bar is pushed completely through and flushwith the end of the front mounting hole. A f t e rthe bar has been inserted fasten with the 1/4-20 x1/2” set screws provided. (See fig 5)

CABLE GUARD GLIDE INSTALLATIONTo prevent your bow’s cables from ru b b i n gagainst each other, Hoyt uses a speciallydesigned cable glide that has off-set cable slots.To correctly install the glide on all Hoyt bows,first place the glide on the cable guard bar. (Seefig 6) Next, push the control cable into the short-er front slot. Then, push the buss cable into thelonger rear slot. CAUTION: Do not pull bow

TILLER ADJUSTMENTTiller is the difference in dis-tance between the upper limbto the string and lower limb tothe string measured from thebase of the limbs (where the

limb and riser meet) at a 90 degree angle to thestring. (See fig 6)

The main function oftiller is to allow thea rcher to more easily andcomfortably aim duringthe draw and release ofthe shot. Most bows willshoot best near even tillerwhich means the dis-tance from the string tothe limb is the same ontop and bottom. Ti l l e radjustments are made byadjusting either limbweight adjustment bolt.(See draw weight adjust-ment section pg. 14)

Example: If you have too much tiller on the bot-tom limb, decrease the weight on the top limb ori n c rease the weight on the bottom. Hoyt re c o m-mends that you initially set tiller equal top andb o t t o m .

CENTERSHOTCentershot is the alignment of the arrow in thepower path of the string. This is accomplishedby moving the arrow rest left or right. Releaseshooters should line the arrow up with or justslightly outside of the power path of the string.(See fig 8) Finger shooters should position thearrow so that the tip is just to the outside of thepower path of the string. (See fig 8)

Centershot is critical to how accurately a bowwill perform. These are initial centershot set-tings, for proper alignment Hoyt recommendsthis be done by a qualified pro shop.

FLETCH CLEARANCEFletch clearance is the ability of your vanes orfletchings to pass cleanly by or through yourarrow rest without impacting the rest so severelythat the arrow’s flight path is disrupted. It is nec-essary that you have adequate vane clearance toachieve proper arrow flight. (See fig 9)

DRAW WEIGHT ADJUSTMENTWeight adjustments can easily be made by turn-ing the weight adjustment bolt clockwise toincrease weight or counter clockwise to decre a s eweight. Note: Always turn the top and bottomadjustment bolts in equal amounts. Some Hoytmodel bows are equippedwith a Dual Locking PocketSystem. D R AW LENGTH ADJUSTMENT (INNER-CAM ADJUSTABLE MODULES)Many Hoyt bows utilize the inner- c a madjustable module for draw length adjustment.The inner-cam can generally be adjusted withoutthe aid of a bow press.

CAM & 1/2 DRAW LENGTH ADJUSTMENT TOP CAM: To adjust the draw length on Hoyt’sCam & 1/2 (inner-cam) model bows, use a stan-dard allen key to loosen the fastening screw andto remove the draw length screw. (see fig 11)Rotating the inner-cam in the (+) direction willlengthen the draw. Rotating the inner-cam in the(-) direction will shorten the draw. Each letteredposition willprovide approx-imately l/2 inchl o n g e r / s h o r t e rdraw than thep revious set-ting. Once theinner-cam is inthe desired loca-tion, re i n s t a l land tighten the

OPTIMIZING CAM & 1/2 PERFORMANCEIn order to verify the factory setting of youradjustable Cam & 1/2 System bow you shouldexamine the cam's built-in re f e rence holes. Whenviewing the module side of the t o p cam, at leastpart of the control cable should lie over the re f e r-ence hole (see fig13). When viewing the moduleside of the b o t t o m cam, at least part of the buss

cable should lie over the re f e rence hole as shownin fig 14. It is not necessary to have the cablesc e n t e red over the re f e rence holes. Module posi-tion will not affect the re f e rence hole location.Due to various limb configurations, some 2005and later models are optimized with the cablesslightly off the re f e rence holes. In these cases,mark the cable locations on the cam (as shipped

Zephyr Cam & 1⁄2 Hoyt's Zephyr Cam & 1⁄2 is a high performance drawlength specific cam system. Cams are available in 1⁄2inch draw-length increments. Zephyr cams are alsoavailable in either 65% or 80% ATA let-off. Both topand bottom cams must be swapped out to change the bow's let-off.

Adjustable Valley Technology (AVT)The Zephyr Cam & 1⁄2 features AVT, which allows theshooter to customize how the cam feels at full draw.An optional draw stop peg is included. Without thepeg the back wall is softest and the cam will have thelongest valley. With the draw stop installed in the fur-thest outboard position the cam will feature a long val-ley and a hard wall. In the inboard peg position thecam has a hard wall and a shorter valley. The drawlength and let-off are essentially the same with orwithout the AVT draw-stop peg installed. (See fig 15)

Zephyr Cam & 1/2 OptimizationZephyr Cam & 1/2 features performance marks on thebottom cam to indicate the optimum performancerange for the cam. The limb should lie somewherebetween the lines when the bottom cam is viewedfrom the logo side at brace. (See fig 16) In some casesthe limb will not be exactly centered. This is by designsince each individual cam/limb combination is factoryoptimized for performance and draw length. If drawlength adjustments are necessary, it is acceptable toshorten strings or cables. You will retain excellent per-formance from your Zephyr Cam & 1/2 as long as thelimb lies anywhere within the performance marks.

OPTIMIZING SPIRAL CAM & 1/2 PERFORMANCETo verify factorysetting of bowsfeaturing Hoyt’sSpiral Cam &1/2 System, youshould examinethe cams’ built-in performancemarks. On boththe top and bot-tom cam, thelimb should lies o m e w h e re inbetween themarks. (See fig17) It is not necessary to have the limb exactly cen-t e red between the marks. The let-off of your SpiralCam & 1/2 bow can be adjusted using a standardallen key. The ATA l e t - o ff values of the Spiral Cam& 1/2 System vary from 55% to 65%. You will noticethe four draw-stop holes on the bottom cam num-b e red 1 through 4. (See fig 18) For the lowest let-off

(55%), the draw-stop peg shouldbe placed in hole#4. Place the draw-stop peg in hole #1for the highest let-o ff (65%). Note:Smaller cams mayhave 2 or 3 holes.CABLE

Simply remove the draw-stop peg from its origi-nal position, place it in the desired position, andtighten. Each Hoyt Spiral Cam & 1/2 System bow isshipped in the 65% let-off (draw stop peg position#1). N o t e : changing the draw-stop position tomanipulate let-off will alter draw length by appro x-imately 1/8” for each draw-stop hole. Draw lengthwill be shortened when changing to a lower let-offposition and lengthened in higher let-off positions.

weight and may reduce the performance of thewheels on your bow. Hoyt recommends stayingwithin the optimum performance range shown inFigure 19. If your draw length requires a cam posi-tion well outside the range shown in Figure 20, youmay consider changing to a smaller or larger cam asneeded. Please consult your local authorized Hoytdealer. Start by setting the bottom wheel position asshown in Figure 19. Next, approximately match thedistance on the top and bottom wheels between thebowstring and the point of the wheels as shown inFigure 20. (You may need to change the control cablelength to optimize the top wheel position.) Exactmeasurements are not necessary since the Wheel &1/2 system is not sensitive to timing and synchro-nization.

WHEEL & 1/2 OPTIONAL DRAW STOPThe draw stop on the Wheel & 1/2 system can be uti-lized to customize the feel of the back wall. If youprefer a hard wall, install the peg in the threaded 6-32 hole in the bottom cam as shown in Figure 19. Ifyou prefer a softer wall and more of a "valley," shootthe wheel without the draw stop installed. The use ofany non-Hoyt draw stop will void the product war-ranty and may damage the product.

VERSA CAM & 1/2 DRAW LENGTH ADJUSTMENTHoyt’s youth cam, the Versa Cam & 1/2 System, fea-tures a patented inner-cam draw length adjustmentthat does not require the use of a bow press. Toadjust the draw length, start by removing the drawlength screw and the module fastening screw fromthe bottom cam. Rotate the module until the draw

length indicator arrow on the cam aligns with thedesired draw length scribed on the module (Figure21). Reinstall both screws and re-tighten. Note thatat draw lengths between 18 and 22 inches the lowerfastening screw location will be utilized (Figure 21),while draw between 23 and 26 inches utilize theupper module fastening screw location (Figure 22).Always be sure to install and tighten both modulescrews prior to drawing or shooting the bow to pre-vent damage to the product.

After the bottom cam draw length is adjusted, repeatthe procedure on the top wheel by loosening the fas-tening screw and removing the draw length screw.Rotate the module to the SAME draw length positionas the bottom module and replace and tighten both

the draw length screw and the module fasteningscrew. Note that the draw length of the top cam isindicated by the number closest to the draw lengthscrew (Figure 23). Ensure both screws are installedand tightened prior to drawing or shooting the bowto prevent damaging the product.

VERSA CAM & 1/2 CONTROL CABLE REMOVALTo remove the control cable from the bottom cam, thebottom module must be rotated to a draw length of20 inches or less. Failure to move the module prior toinstallation or removal of the lower control cableloop may result in damage to the string fibers andpremature cable failure.

L O C ATING YOUR BOW’S SERIAL N U M B E RThe seven-digit serial number on all aluminumHoyt compound bows is located on the riserbetween the top limbs and under the pocket. (Seefig 24) To find the serial number on magnesiumbows, look at the rest mount surface. (See fig 25) Ifyou have already attached a rest to your riser, youmay have to remove it to see the serial number.

TUNING YOUR BOWT h e re are numerous methods you can use when tuningyour Hoyt b o w. Hoyt recommends working closelywith your local pro shop when tuning your bow toensure best results. For detailed tuning information,download Easton’s tuning guide at www.eastonar-chery.com/downloads.

BROADHEADSMost archers discover that they must make slight tun-ing adjustments when switching from practice pointsto broadheads (even at the same weight). Broadheadscreate a dramatic aerodynamic change in arrow flight.For this reason, slight adjustments may need to bemade in nocking point height, rest position or bowweight to achieve desired broadhead flight. Alwaystest shoot broadheads before hunting to ensure prop-er sight settings. Even expandable broadheads mayrequire different sight settings than field points.

HOYT COMPOUND BOW WARRANTYAll Hoyt compound bows are warranted againstdefects in materials or workmanship to the originalo w n e r on all risers, limbs, limb pockets, andeccentrics for the life of the product.

ACCESSORIESAll Hoyt sights (excluding sight pins), arrow rests,and bow quivers (excluding hood foam and arrowgripper) are warranted 100% for the life of the productto the original owner. Hoyt must perform warrantywork.

OBTAINING WARRANTY SERVICETo obtain warranty service, you should return yourbow to the pro shop where you purchased yourHoyt bow. The dealer can help to determine if Hoytfactory service is required or if the repair can be com-pleted by the pro shop. If the bow must be returnedto the factory, the bow owner is responsible for thefreight charges to Hoyt. Hoyt, in turn, will pay for thesame return freight of the repaired product.

Before any bow is returned a Return AuthorizationNumber must be obtained through an authorizedHoyt pro shop. Bows returned to the factory withouta Return Authorization number will be sent back. Donot send accessories with bow unless otherwiseinstructed to.

Write the RA number on the outside of the shippingbox and send the Hoyt bow requiring factory serviceto:

There are no other warranties expressed or impliedthat extend beyond those written here. No agent,employee or representative of Hoyt or its dealers hasthe authority to bind Hoyt to any agreement not here-in stated. Buyer agrees that the sole and exclusiveremedies for breach on any warranty concerning Hoytbows shall be repair or replacement of defective parts.Hoyt shall not be liable for injury or property otherthan the bows themselves. Hoyt reserves the right toreplace defective parts according to availability withcompatible replacement parts.
