Power Take-Off (PTO)The main function of this feature is to increase enginespeeds during high electrical load operation of theambulance body. This control is located on the centerof the instrument panel near the radio.

To operate the PTO control do the following:

1. For stationary use shift the transmission intoPARK (P).

2. Turn the PTO rotary switch ON.

3. The blinking LED on the PTO control switchindicates engine speed control is requested. When the engine speed increases the LED (A)will switch from blinking to a steady light.

To use PTO speed control in Preset Mode (FactorySetting) do the following:

1. Select PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N) range. Applythe parking brake if NEUTRAL (N) is selected.Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) is not availablein NEUTRAL (N) and is available only in PARK (P)when engine speed is above 1,100 rpm.

2. Make sure your foot is off the brake pedal.

3. Select the desired engine speed for maximumcharging. Read the following preset modeinformation regarding operation.

4-13

Page 43: 2005 LSSV Owner Manual Supplement - Fleet Cars, … · GMC Emblem, and the names SILVERADO and SIERRA ... and the owner manual with the vehicle. ... GM Goodwrench® dealer for this

Preset ModePTO speed control mode is used for stationaryapplications. (PTO set and resume speed controlswill be inoperative.) This mode provides a defaultstandby speed of 800 or 850 rpm (depending on theengine/transmission combination) and two defaultPTO control speeds which follow:

1. PTO Set Speed of 1,250 rpm, or2. PTO Resume Speed of 1,700 rpm.

Vehicles not equipped with cruise control will nothave the resume speed capability.

To use PTO speed control in variable mode(while mobile) do the following:

1. Vehicle speed must be greater than 5 mph.2. Make sure your foot is off the brake pedal.3. Select the desired engine speed by using the

foot pedal, and select SET on the PTO switchor the cruise control.

To use PTO speed control in variable mode(while stationary) do the following:

1. Vehicle speed must be less than 5 mph.2. Make sure your foot is off the brake pedal.3. Select the desired engine speed by using the

foot pedal, and select SET on the PTO switchor the cruise control.

Variable ModePTO speed control mode can be used for both stationaryand mobile applications. This mode allows engine speedto be controlled in a fashion similar to how cruise controlsets vehicle speed. The operator can set to an rpm(between 800 and 2,200) with the cruise control featureor with the SET position on the PTO switch. The operatoris then able to increase rpm in increments of 100, or″tap up″ with the resume position on the cruise control. The operator can also decrease rpm in increments of100 with the SET switch on the PTO or the cruise control.

Vehicles not equipped with cruise control will not havethe ″tap up″ capability. All engine speed values listedabove are factory preset values. With the exception of theTCC lockup speed (1,100 rpm) and the ″tap″ increment(100 rpm), all of these values are programmable and canbe adjusted by your dealer or body upfitter. If the PTOsoftware settings do not match the setting shown here, then they may have already been altered in order tosatisfy the requirements of the installed body equipment. When the PTO switch is turned on, the engine is limitedto 2,200 rpms.

Electrical System

Fuses and Circuit BreakersThe wiring circuits in your vehicle are protected fromshort circuits by a combination of fuses, circuit breakersand fusible thermal links. This greatly reduces thechance of fires caused by electrical problems.

Be sure you replace a bad fuse with a new one of theidentical size and rating.

If you ever have a problem on the road and do not havea spare fuse, you can borrow one that has the sameamperage. Just pick some feature of your vehiclethat you can get along without — like the radio orcigarette lighter — and use its fuse, if it is the correctamperage. Replace it as soon as you can.

The 24-volt fuses are located in the engine compartmenttaped to the 24-volt generator wiring harness. Thesefuses are for the 24-voltmeter gage fuse (5 amp),24-volt trailer fuse (25 amp) and 24-volt accessorypower circuit (25 amp). Your vehicle also has a specialrelay center for the Blackout (B/O) lighting. The relaycenter is located on the underhood fuse block inthe engine compartment on the driver’s side of thevehicle near the 24-volt battery.

See Engine Compartment Overview on page 5-4 formore information on their locations. To remove fuses, hold the end of the fuse between your thumb andindex finger and pull straight out.

Beadlock Wheels

{CAUTION:

Traction systems used on a vehicle withoutthe proper amount of clearance can causedamage to the brakes, suspension or othervehicle parts. The area damaged by the tractiondevice could cause you to lose control of yourvehicle and you or others may be injured in acrash. Beadlock wheels or vehicles with militaryoption code EMP should not be used with tirechains or other similar belt or strap tractionsystem. There is not enough clearance.

If the vehicle features Option Package EMP (EnhancedMobility Package) it will feature special rubber beadlocks, made exclusively for use on multi-piece wheels. Thisdevice fits securely between the tire beads and positivelylocks the tire to the wheel rim flange. Beadlocks allowvehicle operation at the low tire air pressure conditionsrequired for better mobility in mud, sand and snow.

By reducing the air pressure, the tire footprint isincreased significantly, thus allowing a greater area oftraction or contact. The beadlock also performs as asafety device to ensure that the tire does not “unseat”from the rim or rotate on the wheel at these low airpressure settings, while also preventing the entry offoreign objects, debris or water into the tire’s air chamber.Replace with the same type, style or size as originallyequipped or the beadlock wheels may not functionproperly. For tire pressures see Capacities andSpecifications in the Index.

Seat CoversThe interior seats have been fitted with fabric seatcovers. The seat covers protect the seat from damageand can be removed for cleaning. Refer to Cleaningthe Inside of Your Vehicle in the Vehicle OwnerManual for fabric cleaning.
