As with any high quality product, man-ufactures are limited by the weakest linkrule; your product is only as good as itsweakest feature. Under the electronicmicroscope, fissures within the metal,caused by molecular contaminants, arethe weakest link in valve spring construc-tion. These fissures appear to be the sizeof the Grand Canyon under the ScanningElectron Microscope, but in fact, they areonly microns wide. Diminishing theoccurrence of any fissures is one of thekey features COMP Cams� looks for whenselecting valve spring steel. The metallur-gist at COMP Cams� scrutinize everypiece of the metal utilized in the creationof their high performance valve springs.

COMP Cams� Engineers have found that

the pushrod is one of the most important

members of the valve train and certainly the

most taken for granted. Prior to extensive

research at COMP Cams�, it was thought the

pushrod only had to be strong enough not to

fail, bend, or burn up at the ends. Now our

engineers have learned that the frequency of

the pushrod must match that of all the rest

parts in the valve train, as well as the RPM at

which the engine will be run. Today’s all out

unlimited race engines deserve the ultimate in

quality at every step, and COMP Cams� High-

Tech Pushrods fill that requirement.

The one piece design from seamless

chromemoly tubing insures the ultimate in

strength. The ends are precision formed, yield-

ing added thickness in the critical tip area for

strength, while maintaining constant wall thick-

ness and concentricity. They are heat treated to

insure compatibility with guide plates and for

maximum strength and black oxide finished

with a length and part number laser etched on

the OD for ease of identification.

4130 chromemoly steel heat treated to a mini-

mum hardness of 60 on the Rockwell “C” scale.

The use of Finite Element Analysis has helped

us design this pushrod for superior performance

and endurance. Applications include engines

employing mid-range spring pressures and

engine speeds well in excess of 9000 rpm.

Because of their increase in natural frequency,

these pushrods help tune the valve train when

subjecting the valve train to its maximum speed.

Spintron� tests show that this product helps

control valve motion, which results in capturing

lost horsepower due to valve bounce. These

are specialty parts specifically designed for high-

performance and specific road race applications.

Super Roller LiftersThe lifter is the immediate link between the cam and the rest of the valve train and it must be built tough to endure the sledge-

hammer-like pounding of engine speeds above 10,000 rpm. This is not a problem for COMP Cams� Super Roller Lifters becausethey are engineered to withstand even harsher conditions.

Our patented link bar design eliminates the problems associated with other companies’ riveted button link bars and the rollerwheel will stand up to the abuse because it is made from an exotic steel Nickel alloy, far superior to the ordinary ball bearing steelour competitors use. Our bodies are fully heat treated machined to a tolerance of ±.0002”.

Super Roller Lifters have a unique patented link bar system which blends all the advantages and interchangeability of a remov-able link bar with the safety of a captured link bar. Just turn the link bar parallel to the lifter, line up the button on the lifter with thehole in the link bar, snap in and turn 90°. Once in the engine, if the pushrod or some other part fails, the lifters remain attached toeach other, preventing other damage.

.874 Diameter Solid Lifter With Pressurized OilingWith the increased RPM, additional spring pressure, and aggressive cam designs of today’s performance engines, premature

cam wear is a major problem. COMP Cams� has answered the challenge with the new #817 solid lifter (.874 Diameter) which fea-tures a precision 0.012 inch oil feed hole in the cam face. The added oiling capacity creates a boundary layer that protect both thelifter and cam lobe from excessive wear.
