Introduction

Welcome

Thomson ONE Analytics is the Web-based investment research and

analytic tool that combines your own data with real-time institutional

content from Thomson Financial and third parties. The content is coupled

with sophisticated functionality; enabling you to quickly identify

investment opportunities and helping you reach superior investment

decisions.

The first section of the manual focuses on the Thomson ONE Analytics

functionality. The chapters are organized according to the major and

minor tasks listed in the navigation bar. See “Using the Navigation Bar”

on page 3 for more information.

The second section of the manual provides two workflow examples: 1.

Picking stocks based on specific criteria, and 2. Tracking a group of

stocks, or an individual stock. Through utilizing the workflow examples,

you can navigate through Thomson ONE Analytics more efficiently to

obtain the information you need most.

The Publishing Tab

Overview & Objectives

This chapter details the publishing functionality that allows you to post

forecasts and research to the Thomson ONE Analytics system through In-

House Publishing. In addition to publishing text-based research

documents, you may also publish Excel spreadsheets, image files,

PowerPoint presentations or any other PC-based file. See the Glossary

for a complete list of acceptable files.

You can publish files directly to the Thomson Financial system or you can

store them on local servers and publish only the indexing information for

the documents. Each firm choosing the latter option will be required to

supply a path for the documents and then maintain the files on their

network.

Publish Quantitative

On the Quantitative screen you may view a company’s summary

information and edit in-house estimates and other information about the

company’s in-house estimates.

You may enter organizational level in-house estimates for any company.

Any user within your company can change these estimates. However,

these estimates are kept anonymous at the organizational level outside of

the firm. All users can see the estimate values of other organizations, but

cannot see the organization’s name.

The Estimate Entry box is where you enter your own estimates for a

company. You may track your estimate versus the sell-side estimates and

track your estimate against the other in-house estimates in our database.

The comparison of these estimates can be shown using the accompanying

scatter plot under Your Estimate vs. Peers and the Consensus Comparison

tables.

To Enter an In-House Estimate:

1. Click the Publish tab, and then the Quantitative tab.

2. If it’s not already loaded, enter your desired ticker or company

name in the Select another Company box and click Go.

3. Select your desired measure for the estimate from the Available

Measures row.

4. Select your desired fiscal period from the Available Periods row.

5. Enter your revision in the Revisions field of the Estimate Entry

box. You may enter estimates for as many fiscal periods and

measures as you like.

6. Click Update to register your revision.

Tracking Your Estimate and Comparing to Your Peers

The In-House Estimate vs. Peers scatter plot shows a comparison of

estimates and it offers two views: In-House Detail and Sell-Side Detail.

The Sell-Side Detail view displays your firm’s estimates relative to the

sell-side estimates in our database. The In-House Detail shows your

estimate relative to the other in-house estimates submitted to Thomson

ONE Analytics.

NNoottee:: You may only view the In-House Detail scatter plot of the in-house

estimates if you have an estimate entered.

Each estimate is plotted according to the actual value and number of days

that have elapsed since the estimate was submitted. A green arrow

indicates that the estimate had been raised from its previous value.

Estimates that had been lowered are shown in red and new estimates are

displayed in gray.

To Compare Your Estimates to Your Peers:

1. Click the Publish tab, and then the Quantitative tab.

2. If it’s not already loaded, enter the your desired ticker or company

in the Select another Company box, and click Go.

3. Select your desired measure in the Available Measures row.

4. Select your desired fiscal period in the Available Periods row.

Viewing Additional Data

The Quantitative page includes data on consensus comparison and interim

fiscal periods. The Consensus Comparison table compares the differences

in the sell-side mean EPS and the In-House mean EPS across multiple

fiscal periods. The Interim Fiscal Period table compares the differences in

the sell-side mean EPS and the In-House mean EPS across multiple

quarters. A green value in the %Diff column indicates an increase while a

red value indicates a decrease for both charts.

Connect

Overview & Objectives

Thomson Connect's First Call Premium Channel within Thomson ONE

Analytics provides a secure communication framework to enable real-time

exchange of the information and ideas by a closed community of financial

professionals. Define with whom you want to communicate, prioritize

what you want to receive and define how you want to receive it.

Inbox

The Inbox provides access to packages sent to you from other users, or

through one of the Premium Channels.

The Inbox displays the following fields:

! Date - the date the package was sent to you.

! Type - the type of package sent.

! Subject - the package headline or topic.

! Firm - the sending firm.

! Author - the package sender. This can be a contact, or a System

Broadcast, indicating the content was pushed from a contributor's

system over one of the Premium Channels.

! Firm-wide Indicator - indicates that the package was sent to

your entire firm.

! Attachment Indicator - indicates that the package contains

attachments.

If you access the Inbox from the COMPANY or PORTFOLIO sections, it

will be filtered by the respective entities.

All packages sent to you will continue to arrive in your Inbox during the

day, but because the display is browser-based, there is no automatic

refresh. To ensure you see new content as it arrives, click the Refresh ( )

icon.

Searching/Filtering

You may search for packages based on specific tag and value criteria and

filter packages by your interest lists. The search function allows you to

retrieve all packages related to the criteria, even if they would not

normally appear due to the Inbox size limit.

To search for packages:

1. Click the Connect tab, and then the Inbox tab.

2. Select your desired criteria from the Search drop-down menu. The

Choose Values window will appear.

3. Click on your desired value(s) and click the right arrow to add it to

Premium Channels

Premium channels allow you to receive content from contributing firms on

specific topics. Topics include:

! First Call Premium Channel - receive premium broker content

from participating firms

! Independent Research Premium Channel (future) - receive

independent research from participating firms

Each premium channel can be turned ON/OFF by clicking on the

respective icon. If the premium channel is ON, you will see content

distributed over that channel and can use your interest lists to further

narrow your Inbox view. If the premium channel is OFF, you will not see

content from that specific collection.

Interest Lists / Portfolios

Interest lists allow you to filter content based on specific interests. Interest

lists can be created in one of two ways:

1. Interest List section under the CONNECT tab

2. Private Lists section under the UTILITY tab

The drop-down menu contains a superset of both. Selecting an interest list

from the drop-down menu allows you to change your Inbox view so that it

only displays content relevant to that interest list. By default, the display

includes information relevant to all of your interest lists, plus information

sent by any of your premier contacts.

Package Viewer

The Package Viewer allows you to view your package contents. The

sender can customize the package contents, but a typical package will

contain:

1. Package Index - provides you with a navigational index to the

package overview, details, and any sender attachments. In some

cases, firms will set up business rules to blend additional content

onto their packages (in line with workflow processes). These links

will also be listed in the package index.

2. Package Contents - information from the sender, including

business card information, and relevant tagging.

3. Functional Options - options available to you on the package.

These include:

! Reply - reply to the sender

Alerting

Overview & Objectives

Alerting within Thomson ONE Analytics provides real-time customized

access to research through e-mail alerts. Your alerts are based on criteria

that you select, namely, which research products to search on and what

time the e-mail will arrive. Furthermore, you may open your desired

documents directly from your e-mail.

Important Information for First Call Web users:

! All of your First Call Web portfolios and alerts need to be migrated

to Thomson ONE Analytics.

! If any issues arise regarding portfolio ticker resolution, those

tickers will be dropped from the portfolio. If you have questions

concerning your portfolio tickers, please contact your Client

Services Representative.

! Your First Call Web alerts and portfolios will not be maintained

and supported in Thomson ONE Analytics. Changes made in either

First Call Web or Thomson ONE Analytics after migration will not

be reflected in the other application.

! Thomson Financial no longer supports custom ticker alerts. You

will not receive alerts on custom tickers if you update existing or

create new alerts using them. You may search for custom ticker

research in Thomson ONE Analytics by clicking the Screening

tab, and then the Research tab.

Glossary

Cash Flow Per Share (CPS)

Cash Flow Per Share is corporation’s cash flow from operations (before investing and financing

activities), divided by the average number of outstanding common shares for the year. Investing

includes the sale or purchase of land, factories, buildings, etc. Financing includes the dividend

payments, loan proceeds, and sale of stock.

Coefficient of Variation

The coefficient of variation is the standard deviation of estimates for the period indicated,

expressed as a percentage of the mean estimate. This measures the relative dispersion of

estimates around the mean. Consensus Price Target

The Consensus Price Target estimates are received directly from contributing analysts. While

there are differing methodologies, the price target forecast is generally derived from an expected

stock price over a 12-month period (unless otherwise noted). Thomson Financial uses the

median price target value because it is less likely to be affected by outlier forecasts. Consensus Recommendation

The Consensus Recommendation appears as the mean of a company’s assigned recommendation

value and text. The consensus text is determined by rounding the mean value to the nearest

integer.

CUSIP/SEDOL

The CUSIP is and 8-digit alphanumeric code assigned by the Standard and Poor’s Corporation

for US and Canadian securities

The SEDOL is a 6-digit numeric code assigned by the London Stock Exchange.

Dividends Per Share (DPS)

Dividends Per Share is a corporation’s common stock dividends on an annual basis, divided by

the weighted average number of common outstanding shares for the year.

Earnings Before Goodwill (EBG)

EBG is a company’s per share earnings before the amortization of goodwill. Some countries

(France, for example) treat goodwill as part of ordinary income, and the amortization component

is added back to yield earnings before goodwill amortization.

Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT)

EBIT measures the earnings of a company before interest expense and income taxes are paid.

EBIT gauges a corporation’s earnings before there are debt servicing to creditors (including

bondholders) or corporate taxes payment.

Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA)

EBITDA gauges the raw earnings power of a company before debt servicing, corporate taxes,

and/or any allowances for depreciation and amortization costs are made for the company.

Earnings Per Share (EPS)

EPS is a corporation’s net income from continuing operations, divided by the weighted average

number of outstanding shares for the year.

Funds Available for Distribution (FAD)

FAD is a measure used by real estate and other investment trusts to define the cash flow from

trust operations. It is earnings with depreciation; less capital investments in trust property and

the amortization of mortgages.

Funds From Operations (FFO)

FFO is a measure used by real estate and other investment trusts to define the cash flow from

trust operations. It is earnings with depreciation and amortization added back.

Growth

Growth measures one-year earnings (cash flow or dividends) per share growth from the prior to

current, or current to following fiscal years (FY1/FY0; FY1/FY2; FY2/FY3).

Video Clip (AVI)

Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML)

Wave (WAV) Industry Relative

The Industry Relative figure is a comparison of the projected earnings per share for a company

(looking ahead to the various fiscal periods), to the aggregate growth for the industry in which

the company is listed. The value is calculated by dividing the period growth rate for the

company by the same period growth rate for the industry. Lancer Expert Estimates

The Lancer EPS estimate is based on the proprietary Lancer Analytics Predicted Earnings

Surprise Model, which often derives a more accurate earnings estimate than the general

consensus estimate. This model identifies which analysts have historically been the most

accurate and places greater emphasis on estimates made by those individuals. Long Term Growth (LTG)

Long Term Growth forecasts are received directly from contributing analysts. While different

analysts apply different methodologies, the Long Term Growth forecast generally represents an

expected annual increase in operating earnings over the company’s next full business cycle. Due

to the variance in calculation methodologies, Thomson uses the median value as opposed to the

mean value for LTG. The median value is less affected by outlier forecasts.

Market Capitalization (Market Cap)

Market Cap represents the total value in a local currency of a company’s outstanding equity. It is

calculated by multiplying the number of outstanding shares by the latest closing price. The

shares outstanding include only those shares of underlying analysts’ current earnings forecasts

and may not include all classes of shares.

Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Glossary

Net Asset Value (NAV)

NAV is the total book value of a company’s security. It is generally the company’s total assets

subtracted by the value of intangible assets and current and long-term liabilities. NAV is helpful

in determining under priced equities by indicating the ultimate value of a company’s securities in

the event of its liquidation.

Net Income (NET)

NET is defined as a corporation’s after-tax income. This measure varies significantly from

market to market in regards to the inclusion or exclusion of non-recurring items.

Number of Estimates

This is the number of estimates for a company for the indicated fiscal period.

Operating Profit (OPR)

OPR is the difference between a company’s revenues and its costs and expenditures arising

directly out of a company’s regular operations. Operating Profit is calculated before non-

operating income deductions are made, and excludes income from outside the firm’s regular

activities.

P/E Ratio – Actual

This is the price/earnings ratio for the company based on the most recent closing price and the

last reported annual earnings per share (EPS).

P/E Ratio – Estimate

This is the price/earnings ratio for the company based on the most recent closing price and the

annual mean expected earnings (EPS) for the selected fiscal period.

P/E/Growth Ratio (PEG)

This is the price/earnings to growth ratio for the selected fiscal period over the growth rate for

the same fiscal period.

Price

Price is the current trading price of the selected stock. The price is delayed by 20 minutes.

When viewing index or market information, price is measured as the aggregate price for all of

the companies in that market or index, and therefore shows the movement of the index as a

whole. Return on Assets (ROA)

Return on Assets is a profitability ratio that gauges the return on investment of a specific

company. ROA measures the company’s operating efficiency regardless of its financial

structure. It is calculated by dividing its earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) to the

company’s average total assets.

Return on Equity (ROE)

Return on Equity is a profitability ratio that gauges return on investment measuring how

effectively the company is employing stockholder money. ROE is calculated by dividing a

company’s net income by its average total equity.

Sales (SAL)

The Sales measure is a corporation’s net revenue, derived from core business activities.

Sector Industry Group Classification

Thomson uses a proprietary classification scheme to categorize companies into groups according

to their business lines. For American companies, a scheme similar to the S&P 500 Industry

grouping is used. For non-US companies, a system based on the Morgan Stanley Capital

International Industry Classifications is used.

Shares Outstanding

Shares Outstanding measures the amount of common stock that can be publicly traded. This

number only includes shares in the same class as the estimates being made.

Surprise Mean

The Surprise Mean is the arithmetic average of estimates in relation to actuals when earnings are

released to the marketplace.
