2-Way MTM Speakers Designed and Built By Zach Carlson For Your Auditory Enlightenment: An extremely clear and detailed loudspeaker designed to provide a realistic listening experience. Sealed box for crisp accurate transient response Soft-dome fabric tweeter for clear highs Dual woofers for low distortion and controlled vertical directivity Professional quality passive crossover components Authorative low end Excellent off-axis response Can handle 80 Watts continous power (equivalent to 104 dB max) +/- 2.5 dB from 65 Hz to 17k The Drivers: The Seas 27TFFC tweeters present a warm yet articulate sound with wide dispersion characteristics. The ability to use a moderately low crossover point, and their high power handling capabilities were major selling points. They blend in perfectly with the dual Tang Bands. The Tang Band W6-1721 drivers are absolutely monstrous. The underhung magnet and high Xmax provide extremely low distortion even at higher power levels. In a sealed box these drivers shine. They provide quick and accurate lows with precision and power all the way to their f10 of 35 Hz. The Cabinets: The cabinets of these loudspeakers were designed with both looks and acoustical benefits in mind. The braced box in a box design features a ¾” MDF inner layer with a ¾” 13 ply Baltic Birch outer to elimate any pesky resonances. They are solid, weighing in at 65 pound each! The Crossover: A third order Butterworth crossover point at 1.7k allows each driver to cover the frequencies they do best without significant overlap. Professional grade crossover components were used for clear and uncolored sound. SA Clarity Caps, Sidewinder and Sledgehammer inductors, and Mills non-inductive resistors were chosen for the job.
