1. The first Englishmen in America came for gold and silver. At
first they struggled, but then established plantations and
expanded.
2. The King ruled in England with a Parliament; Parliament made
laws and advised the kings.
3. The colonies created their own governments.
4. England had other problems; didn’t focus on the issue of the
13 colonies. Colonial governments grew stronger.
