NATIONAL OCCUPATIONAL SKILLS STANDARD

(NOSS) FOR;ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT & APPLIANCE

INSTALLATION AND TROUBLESHOOTINGLEVEL 2

1. INTRODUCTION

This NOSS is developed focusing on Electronic Equipment &

Appliance Installation and Troubleshooting product personnel. Thedevelopment of this NOSS is essential for the industry to havecertain guidelines and standards based on the level of competencies that have been set by the industrial eperts in this!eld.

"ersonnel under the Electronic Equipment & Appliance Installationand Troubleshooting  sub sector #ill be responsible for theinstallation$ troubleshooting$ repair$ maintenance$ productdevelopment$ design and management of electronic products and

equipment respective to the di%erent levels of competencies. Thiscan be seen in Occupational Area Analysis in igure '.(. Thisparticular NOSS focuses on Electronic Equipment & ApplianceInstallation and Troubleshooting competencies at )evel (.

The supply of a competent #or*force #ith the requisite s*ills in *eysectors of +alaysia,s economy$ particularly in Industrial Electronics#ill be increased in line #ith sector demand. In particular$ thegro#th of the electronics sector is fuelled by the pic*up in eternaldemand for semiconductors$ consumer electronic equipments$computers and related equipments$ and other electroniccomponents and devices. Over the years$ +alaysia-s electronicsindustry has developed signi!cant capabilities and s*ills for themanufacture of a #ide range of semiconductor devices$ highendconsumer electronic and information and communicationtechnology /I0T1 products.

Electronics manufacturers in the country have continued to moveup the value chain to produce higher valueadded products. Theseinclude intensi!cation of research and development e%orts andoutsource noncore activities domestically. The electronics industry

in +alaysia can be categorised into 0onsumer Electronics2 thatincludes the manufacture of colour television receivers$ audiovisual products such as digital versatile disc /3431

This NOSS provides !rst hand information to the #or*ers regardingthe Industrial Electronics product installation and troubleshooting#or*ing environment. This NOSS also provides a career path andemployment development for those involved in this industry.

2. OCCUPATIONAL AREA ANALYSIS

The Occupational Area Analysis is the initial phase in the

development of the NOSS. It is done so that the current 6ob titles in

the industry are translated into the 6ob areas required of the

personnel. In doing so$ candidates #ill have better employment

prospects as there #ill be no mismatch of 6ob titles to epected

6ob competencies. This is because di%erent organisations use

di%erent 6ob titles. 0erti!cation #ill also be able to re7ect the 6ob

competencies correctly and avoid confusion of 6ob scope based on

 6ob titles.

or the Industrial Electronics 6ob area$ it has been analysed byepert panel members that it consists of competencies such asElectronic Schematic 3ra#ing$ Instrument and Test Equipment Set8p & 9andling$ Industrial Electronic Equipment Installation$Instrument and Test Equipment Troubleshooting and IndustrialElectronic Equipment Troubleshooting. Therefore the 6ob area hasbeen translated into Electronic Equipment & Appliance Installationand Troubleshooting because that re7ects most of thecompetencies at )evel (.
