The place: SPLITSKA(EN) Splitska is an ancient village on the island of Brač in Croatia. The scenic, charming little village was built around a small bay, the population is about 400. The village got its name from a derivative of Split, the second largest city in Croatia: “little Split”. Thevillagenamewasfirstmentionedintheyear1577,whenMihovil Cerinić a Dalmatian nobleman from the town of Škrip, erected a citadel in the centre of Splitska. His intent had been to use it as a fortress against the impending waves ofOttoman-TurksthatsweptacrossBrač inthatera.Thiscastlebecamethetown’sfirsttruelandmark. Splitska is approximately 6 km distant from themain town on Brač calledSupetarand25kmfromBračairport. The village was settled by Romans to mine stones which were used to construct the Diocletian Palace and many other buildings in Venice, or the White House in Washington, The high alter of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral in England, and Berlin’s Reichstag. The initial quarry is located only a few hundred meters from the main road which passes Splitska. ThefirstinhabitantsfromŠkrip (a village above Splitska) built the church of Blessed Virgin Mary in Stomorna (1228).The altar pale of the Virgin with Saints has painted Leandro Bassano, arenaissancepainterfromVenicein1577.

A helyszín: SPLITSKA(HU) Splitska település Brač szigetén, Horvátországbanhelyezkedikel.Afestői,bájos kicsi falu egy öbél köré épült, lakosainak száma körülbelül 400. A falu neve a második legnagyobb horvát város Splitnevébőlered:“kis Split”. A faluról először 1577-ben tesznek említést, miután a Škrip-ből származó Mihovil Cerinić dalmátfőnemesváratépítetettaközeledőoszmán-törökveszélyellen.Maafaluközpontjábanáll.Ezavárlettaszigetelsőigaziiránypontja. Alegjelentősebbvárostól,Supetartól mintegy 6 km-re délre az Adriai-tenger partjánfekszik,25km-reaBrač-irepülőtértől. Legfőbbnevezetességeaközelbenfekvő,világhírűmárványárólnevezeteskőfejtő. Az itt bányászott márványból épült fel Dalmácia egykori palotáinak, templomainak sora, de ebből épült sok velencei palota, továbbá az ittenimárványt használták föl a washingtoni Fehér Ház, a liverpooli Érseki Metropolita Székesegyház, vagy a berlini Reichstag épületéhez is. Az első letelepült családok Škripből jöttek (Splitskától északra fekvő falu),majdőképítettékfölamainapighasználtSztomornaiBoldogságosSzűzMária-templomot (1228), melynek oltárképét a velencei reneszánsz festő, Leandro Bassanofestette1577-ben.
