Support Organizations and Services

Institutions engaged in export effort fall in six distincttiers. At the top is the Department of Commerce in theMinistry of Commerce and Industry. This is the mainorganization that formulates and guides India’s trade

policy. At the second tier, there are advisory bodies toensure that export problems are comprehensively dealt

with after mutual discussions between theGovernment and the Industry.

At the third tier are the commodity specificorganizations, which deal with problems relating toindividual commodities and/or groups ofcommodities. The fourth tier consists of service

institutions, which facilitates and assist the exportersto expand their operations and reach out moreeffectively to the world markets.

Services The fifth tier consists of Government tradingorganizations specifically set up to handleexport/import of specified commodities and tosupplement the efforts of the private enterprise in thefield of export promotion and import management.

Agencies for export promotion at the State levelconstitute the sixth tier.
