MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON

Haere ra koutou katoa nga mate huhua o nga marae maha o te motu whaanui . Haere ra, tiraha

ra, moe mai ra moe mai ra koutou katoa.

Tihei Mauri Ora,

Tenei te mihi atu ki a koutou e noho mai ra i runga i o tatou marae maha nga mihi mahana kia

koutou katou tena koutou tena tatou katoa.

In the first instance and at the forefront, I would like to begin this report by acknowledging the

claimants of the “Ngati Rongomai Claim”, for without their foresight, their history, their living

experiences, commitment and support to the claim and the Trust members, we would not be

where we are today. Our Kuia, Paretaha Pierson has been the driving force in guiding the

claim, Her wisdom and guidance has been an inspiration and has kept the Trust embedded in

its focus to serve Ngati Rongomai with good intention of realizing long term and sustainable

outcomes for the people. Te Atatu & Kataraina Epapara, Kathleen Pritchard, Ropata Epapara,

Arthur Epapara and those of the following who lifted the Trust to another dimension by their

presence and their knowledge; (Deceased) Hirini Katene, Tame Gray, Te Rata Epapara and

Christine Hughes-Hohepa.

The Trust acknowledges Te Pukenga Koeke o Te Arawa and Te Pumautanga o Te Arawa for

their on-going support concerns and successes for the betterment of Te Arawa.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge my colleagues the trust members who have been relentless

in their commitment to the Kaupapa i hangaia ana tatou i runga i nga mahi maha mo te oranga

o Ngati Rongomai. Murray Patchell, your friendship that we all aspire to in the Trust and for

your articulation of due diligence and process. At the same time acknowledging Geyser

Community Trust for the wealth of knowledge support and comradeship that we as a Trust

receive and enjoy. We respect and appreciate every opportunity in our relationship which allows

the Trust to grow and the ability to evaluate meaningful endeavors in realizing advancement for

Ngati Rongomai.

This being the first Annual General Meeting of the Trust it will be a time that beneficiaries will be

looking for accountability and no doubt the performance of the Trustees. We are happy to come

to the beneficiaries now that we have succeeded in the proper setup and framework of the Trust

that will enhance our abilities to contribute in taking Ngati Rongomai forward.

The Trust extends apologies to those beneficiaries who have been disadvantaged by meetings

not being held before now but we collectively believed it was more important to report proper

outcomes to you rather than to report on incomplete formalities that demanded long drawn out

processing.

The Trust has endured many frustrating deeds in its ambition to move Ngati Rongomai forward.

I must say the worst of all matters before us have come from within and from our own whanau.

Like many Maori organisations the Trust have witnessed the one commonality that many endure

and that has been beneficiaries who have done nothing for the claim but want everything from it.

It is a sad situation when money becomes a driving force of interest and people lose sight of

reality and focus on personal destruction of their own people.

The Trust has enjoyed its successes as well and as you follow through the annual report, which

is designed to update and focus on the strategic goals set by the Trust and our associated

business relationships.

The financial audited statements will demonstrate that we have been conservative and our

interests to date have been the beneficiaries by supporting the marae where everyone benefits.

Our immediate priority is to ensure that we leave a robust and enterprising Trust to our

successors.

Gloria Hughes

The fund generally holds a diversified portfolio made up predominantly of income assets suchas cash, bank term deposits and a range of fixed interest securities. The fund may also holdan allocation to growth assets. Generally, these investments will be made via the FixedInterest Fund and Equity Fund, but the fund may also hold some investments directly. New shareholdings added during the month included GlaxoSmithKline to the global shares, Delegat’sGroup to New Zealand Shares and AMP Group to the Australian shares.

More than 35 nationalities make up the international school student body. At Traidhos, visiting students and adults of all ages can also enjoy specialized professional sport academies in Tennis, Golf, Cricket and Football. A Farm and Cooking program caters to thousands of students per year and our Magic Eyes Program in Bangkok gives world renowned environmental land and marine study tours on the Chao Phraya river and local National Parks to over 3,000 participants each year.

Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) I am proud to introduce our school to you. At WAB we believe that international school students have a special responsibility as global citizens. Never before has the world relied so much on young people to take up the challenge of building a sustainable future. Our students are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are acquiring skills and attributes to be the leaders of today. WAB's mission to connect, inspire and challenge all members of our community so that they make a difference in our world, requires us to do our part to emphasize social, environmental and economic global issues. Students at WAB learn that they can really 'be the change'. We’ve accomplished a great deal since the founders opened WAB in 1994. Today WAB is one of the most highly regarded international schools in the world. Our focus is always on excellence in student learning and understanding, and we take advantage of our location in Beijing to give our diverse student body unique opportunities to learn from and in this exciting environment. Change is part of life in China, and in this age of technology change is more fast-paced and significant than ever before. We challenge our students to make the changes in the world positive ones. In the words of one of our alumni “I truly believe WAB is making the world a better place”. What a noble goal for WAB as an institution and for our students. If you are ever in Beijing be sure to drop by to see us in action. We hope to welcome you to WAB soon WAB believes that our commitment is to educating open-minded seekers, builders and users of knowledge. At the same time, students must acquire skills and attitudes that will meet the needs of the 21st century. In keeping with our mission, we have a responsibility to ensure that students are connected, inspired and challenged every day. In educating the whole child, we support the individual needs of each student and value their unique contribution to our school. WAB is an IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (ECC to Grade 5), the Middle Years Programme (Grade 6-10) and Diploma Programme (Grade 11-12). These provide students with a broad academic experience that emphasizes the inter-relatedness between subjects. The IB curriculum is based on the premise that the individual student is at the center of all teaching and learning. It has been developed to incorporate an international perspective, which reflects developments in curriculum research from a range of different national and international sources. The curriculum explores transdisciplinary themes and develops lifelong skills, such as the ability to conduct research, communicate effectively, function successfully in different contexts, manage one's health and life, and think critically

WAB Wild has a very strong environmental focus in all its programs, and this challenges students to think and reflect on how we interact with the environment. We use the fact that the program takes place in the wilderness to pose environmental challenges and heighten student’s awareness of the global issues that the planet faces. WAB Wild also facilitates extra-curricular experiences that foster personal growth and leadership and encourage lifelong participation in adventurous and physical activity. CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Principal's Message Welcome to Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS). If you are visiting our website for the first time, we sincerely hope you take the opportunity to visit us in person. We look forward to sharing our unique and wonderful international community and school with you! We believe the early years of a child’s education are the most significant and important. The Lower School is a vibrant and exciting community and ‘home’ for almost 1,050 children from ages 3 to 12 years in Pre Reception through Grade 6. We have a total of 68 teaching faculty who have joined us from all corners of the globe. As a school community we represent 40 unique nationalities. The Lower School follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) curriculum framework. The Lower School was authorized to teach the IBPYP in April 2009. As a result, we are now listed as an IB World School. We are exceptionally proud of this achievement and excited to be part of an international network of IB schools. A generalist classroom teacher delivers instruction for English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Information Technology, Visual Arts and Drama. These elements of the curriculum are often referred to as the homeroom programme. Students also attend classes in transdisciplinary subjects including Physical Education, Performing Arts and Library (Information Literacy). Single subject teachers aim to build transdisciplinary skills and make meaningful

connections to the homeroom programme through their subject area. These connections serve to widen children’s perspectives and deepen their understanding and knowledge. One of the great gifts of joining an international school community is sharing culture and language. Although our programme of instruction is English, children in the Lower School are exposed to two additional languages: Mandarin and French. The Mandarin language programme begins in Pre Reception, our entry-level class for three year olds, and is designed for both native and non-native Mandarin speakers. Instruction in French begins in Grade 5 and is primarily for non-native French speakers. The social and emotional well-being of both students and staff at CDNIS underpins the core conditions for creating an engaging, risk-free and exciting learning community. Take a look into our classrooms and you will find students and teachers engaged, challenged and happy. Parents are also engaged as both active participants and volunteers throughout the Lower School. This partnership is essential and serves as a cornerstone to our aims of creating a child centered school and culture. We want parents to share in their child’s learning experiences and celebrate the important moments and memories that occur daily. Children in the Lower School have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of learning activities and programmes ‘beyond’ the classroom. Various field trips, guest speakers, regular assemblies and concerts are a core extension and enrichment to our classroom programmes. We have an excellent and diverse range of extra-curricular activities (ECA’s) and athletic programme outlets for students to experience new challenges and develop their talents. Grades 4-6 students attend annual camps and take on challenges to build self-confidence and team based skills. Should you wish to learn more about us, please contact our Admissions Office, make an appointment to join our weekly school tour or simply contact me directly. Thank you for your interest in the Lower School at CDNIS. LOCATION OF VENUE The learning environment of the Okataina Out-Door Centre is situated in the midst of the natural beauty of nature itself, surrounded by the fauna covered peaks and hills, and a step away from the pristine waters of beautiful Lake Okataina. Away from the lights and commercial activity of Rotorua, the Centre offers a customised programme to engage youth in personal development, through cultural, environmental, out-door adventures and team building activities. SUMMARY EVALUATION The vision mission statement & values are views that have been spoken about for many years by Ngati Rongomai Kuia & Koroua. The process of settlement has introduced a Pakeha concept of written documentation and for that reason the Ngati Rongomai Iwi Trust strategic plan has been prepared accordingly. For Ngati Rongomai the return of assets and including monetary gain allows us the capacity to fulfill the vision, mission statement and values our Koroua and Kuia and advance Ngati Rongomai into the future. For Ngati Rongomai the world has reduced in size and that has allowed us to look internationally to assist us in achieving our aspirations. Final test of achieving those aspirations will be the evaluation of every work stream.
