March 20 Palm Sunday

We remember Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, with crowds waving palm branches and shouting “Hosanna!”

March 24 Maundy Thursday

Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, established Holy Communion at his Last Supper with them, and commanded that we love one another (hence the word “Maundy,” which comes from the Latin word for “mandate”).

March 25 Good Friday

We call this Friday “Good” not because of what Jesus went through, crucified on the cross, but because he gave himself for us in order that we might have eternal life with God

March 27 Easter is not part of Holy Week. On Easter we

celebrate the risen Christ! Alleluia!

The Lunch Bunch (formerly XYZ group) will meet in Fellowship Hall at noon Thursday, March 3, be-

ginning with a potluck lunch. Following lunch, Allan Carlson will share an accordion program of music appropriate for St. Pat-rick’s Day. All who are interested

are invited to attend. Please bring a dish to pass, your table service and a friend or two, and join us for a good afternoon together. The 6:00 Wednesday Night Meals will continue through April 27, except for Holy Week when the meal will be on Maundy Thursday (March 24) in-stead. Marcia Sadler again prepares and serves them at a cost of $7 each. Singing and devotions follow. At 7:04 pm Pastor Dennis leads his interesting in-depth Bible study on the Book of Romans for all those who wish to attend. If Ludington Area Schools are closed on a Wednesday due to stormy weather, the meal and class that night will be cancelled. Coffee, juice and cookies are served in the narthex from 8:30 to 11:00 am each Sunday.

A necklace was found between the south office doors January 23. Please call the office at 843-8340 to claim it.

Blessed to Be a Blessing, a spring retreat for Grand Traverse District United Methodist clergy and laity, will be held at Waldheim Retreat Center in Traverse City April 1 and 2. This 24-hour retreat will be built around the sacraments of Bap-tism and Holy Communion, and will include time for group study and personal reflection. For more details see the church office bulletin board.

In 2012, the United Methodist General Conference - the denomination’s top legislative body - held an Act of Repentance Toward Healing Relationships with Indigenous People service. An Act of Re-pentance and Reconciliation will be part of the joint session of the Detroit and West Michigan Annual Conferences this June in East Lansing. But before annual conference members participate in that Act on June 10, they will have an opportunity to learn more. The documentary Our Fires Still Burn reviews the history of native Americans, which is considered by many to be our “American Holocaust,” and in-vites viewers into the lives of contemporary Native Americans living in the Midwest. When Europeans first visited the New World there were 100 million Native Americans in North and South America. To-day, as the film explains, “there are but a handful.” Public viewings of the documentary, with question and answer time, have been arranged around the Michigan area. The closest sites to us are listed be-low. Please consider viewing this film as a bridge toward improved understanding, communication and respect. April l2, Grand Rapids Trinity UMC, 6:30 pm April 23, Traverse City Central UMC, 10:00 am May 15, Heartland District Office at CMU Wesley Foundation, 5:00 pm.

The Missions Committee of United Methodist Church of Ludington has the opportunity to use an anonymous donation up to $1,000.00 as a matching grant to raise money for the purchase of water filters and replacement filters for the Flint Water Crisis! The matching grant started Sunday, February 14, 2016 and will extend for only 22 days! The opportunity will expire Sunday, March 6, 2016. Isaiah 58:6-7 NIV “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter - when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?” Isaiah 58:9-11 “If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well wa-tered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” During Lent many people fast. This can help with personal spiritual growth...Isaiah’s challenge is to draw nearer to God by applying His Word to our society...moving beyond ourselves to acts of kind-ness, charity, justice, and generosity! As part of your Lenten growth, will you help bring kindness and justice to Flint, Michigan? Place cash donations in pew envelopes designated for the “Flint Matching Grant,” or write checks to our church with “Flint Matching Grant” in the memo.

Our next turn to serve food for Community Table at Community Church is from 4:30 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 1. If you would like to help pre-pare or serve this meal, please contact Jean Burtch at 843-8306 or Allan Carlson at 843-7071. Thank you in advance for your willingness to help with this im-portant service to the community.

Sunday, March 6 we celebrate One Great Hour of Sharing. This church-wide special offering of The United Methodist Church undergirds the ministry of UMCOR, United Methodist Committee on Relief. When you give to UMCOR, 100% of your donation goes to help those in need. There are no administra-tive or fundraising costs taken out. That’s because One Great Hour of Sharing pays for salaries, over-head, publicity, and all the other program expenses. Please give generously to One Great Hour of Shar-ing on March 6.

Friday, March 11 we will host another American Red Cross blood drive. The drive will be from 12:00 to 6:00 pm in the Sunday School Gathering Area. Sign up online to donate blood at redcrossblood.org (sponsor code: UMCL) or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

~ ~ ~ We will be leading the worship service at Tendercare Nursing Home at 2:15 pm Sunday, March 13. We hope that several of you will join us that day to visit the residents and help with the singing.

Ongoing Prayer Concerns

PRAYER REQUEST CARDS are located in the pews, the narthex and the Volunteer’s Desk. Requests are prayed over on Tuesday mornings and are kept confiden- tial. They are prayed over for 30 days unless updated for a longer period of time. All prayer re-quests are kept in the office. If you have an ur- gent prayer request, you may activate the prayer chains by calling the church office at 843-8340. If the church office is closed, you may call either Lynne Gohn (843-4746) or Anne Estle (843-6263).
