Lightweight panel fittings

Häfele is a pioneer in connecting fittings for lightweight panels without frame, and was one of the first companies to develop connectors that make it possible to create extremely robust, load-bearing structures using this innovative material.Specifically developed lightweight panel fittings and the existing well-known fittings are available to the building trade and industry for furniture construction with lightweight panels.

Lightweight panels consist of three basic elements.• Top layer (top side and bottom side)• Core (e.g. hexagonal honeycomb, corrugated honeycomb,...)• Frame (optional with or without frame)

Lightweight panels provide excellent properties for use in furniture construction.• Reduced weight• Optimized transportation• Conserves resources• High stability, high load-bearing capacity and long service life• Large span widths (very little sagging)• Considerable amount of design freedom

Lightweight panels can be used in a wide range of areas in furniture construction and shop fitting. Possible applications are:• Free standing cabinets of all types• Kitchen worktops• Office and conference tables• Shelving systems

Connectors, adhesive insert and screws for lightweight panelsDifferent connectors are required for the different structures of lightweight panels.Standard fittings can be used for lightweightpanels with frame, for example. However, it must be taken into consideration that these fittings must be fitted in the frame area.

Specifically developed connectors, adhesive inserts and screws are used for lightweight panels without frame. 2 solutions have been developed for connecting and attaching to panels with a top layer of 4 mm and above. • Rafix 20 HC and Tab 20 HC, as connectors with variable use.• Varianta special screw, for screwing into the top layer.• The Aerofix 100 adhesive insert bridges the gap (mechanically and chemically) between the 4 mm top layers.For top layers of 8 mm and above• Standard fittings and Tab 20 HC, as connectors with variable use.• Varianta special screw, for screwing into the top layer.• Chipboard screws and Varianta screws, for screwing into the top layer.

MINIFIX 12 and 15 Carcase ConnectorsThe MINIFIX family of carcase connectors is based on the centric ball principle.

This attachment method allows a large tightening and supporting surface to be integrated in a small connector housing

ensuring that connections are positively secured and tight.

The half round connecting bolt head locates centrally in the cup-shaped recess in the MINIFIX housing and is positively secured.

MINIFIX therefore has many advantages:

• Automatic centering of the bolt means that shelves are no longer subject to lateral displacement in relation to the side panel.

• The long tightening distance of more than 5 mm from only half a turn of the housing compensates for drilling distance tolerances

of +1 mm to approx. - 0.5 mm without loss of tightness.

• Tension is rapidly achieved as the housing is tightened, without having to tighten the housing to the limit (195°).

• Secure tightening is guaranteed, even in case of repeated disassembly and re-assembly.

• Delicate and elegant shape.

165° – 195° (11.30 o’clock to 12.30 o’clock) = 0.5 mm pull

The retightening distance is only required if:

• There are drilling distance tolerances

• A furniture item has been disassembled and re-assembled several times

• A furniture item has been subjected to severe loading

InstallationThe Rafix 20 and 30 have two types of recess to accommodate the connecting bolt:

Without ridge:The shelves can be inserted from the front and from above .

With ridge:The shelves are inserted from above . The cabinet elements are pre-assembled.

Access from above is possible due to the specially designed tightening element. Concealed installation of the connectors is therefore possible (e.g. with shelves) and tightened via a Ø 10 mm through hole. The through hole is then concealed using a cover cap.

Comfortable tightening with drive tool in 25° position.

Installation

The C20 spreading bolt can only be used with connector housingswithout ridge.
