Tempered proppants produce low fines percentage on crushing while maintaining high conductivity.
Santrol’s range of tempered or pre-cured proppants utilize patented multi-layer coating techniques to apply high quality phenolic and other specialty resins to specially treated base substrates to enhance the toughness of the proppant.
Base proppant can be either sand or ceramic. The high crosslink density of each resin layer and selectively added reinforcementagents allows the product to attain added toughness and reduced solubility when compared to the uncoated base proppant.
Free flow additives, anti-dusting and anti-static agents are used to enhance handling and flow characteristics as well as providewater-wetting capability.

EconoFlexis designedas a low crush, resin coated precured ceramic proppant
EconoFlex is designed as a low crush, free flowing precured proppant that adds
benefit to the economical ceramic base proppant.
EconoFlex is manufactured at Santrol’s state of the art dedicated ceramic coating
facility in Fresno, Texas. EconoFlex is manufactured by adding successive fully
cured resin layers on to an economical base ceramic, thereby dramatically reducing
the fines generated on crushing as well as adding high permeability and
conductivity. Consequently the coated product provides superior performance to
base ceramic for moderate to high closure stress applications. All Santrol ceramic
product incorporate coupling agents specifically designed to achieve a permanent
and strong bond between the ceramic surface and the applied resin polymer. The
more costly coupling agents used by Santrol, also assist in the crosslinking of the
phenolic resin as well as assuring that once the resin is applied, it cannot flow off
the surface, or be dissolved in all but the most caustic liquids. The resin coating is
also inert and non-reactive to most common Oil field chemicals.
EconoFlex may be used in hydraulic fractured wells with bottom hole temperatures
above 140º F and closures in the 8,000 psi to 12,000 psi range. The cured resin
coating is stable up to 600º F.

Tempered HSis Santrol’s patented, reinforced, High Strength, precured product
Tempered HS (THS) is Santrol’s patented reinforced High Strength precured or
tempered resin coated product providing better crush, conductivity and permeability
performance than TDC with high closure pressures (6,000 psi to 10,000 psi) where
flowback is not a concern. THS is available in enhanced API 20/40 and 16/30 mesh
distributions.
THS is manufactured by resin coating only API high sphericity, monocrystalline
“Northern White” silica sands of the Jordan, St. Peter and Wonowoc formations. The
first coat is a fully cured coat of resin to add toughness and encapsulate fines on
crushing. The next layers of resin are also fully cured with added reinforcing agents
to add strength to the particle and provide toughness under sudden load stresses
to resist crushing.
THS has lower fines generated on applied closure pressure than either TDC or TLC
which adds to overall pack porosity. As little as 5% fines can reduce pack
permeability by as much as 70% at low proppant concentrations.
THS may be used in hydraulic fractured wells with bottom hole temperatures up to
600º F. Since THS is precured or tempered, it has minimal bonding ability and will
not bond in the tubing or casing.

Tempered LC is Santrol’s Low Cost precured resin coated product
Tempered LCTempered LC (TLC) is Santrol’s Low Cost precured or tempered resin coated
product providing better crush and conductivity performance than TTF in with
medium closure pressures (5,000 psi to 8,000 psi) where flowback is not a concern.
TLC is available in enhanced API 20/40, 16/30 and 12/20 mesh distributions.
TLC is manufactured by resin coating enhanced API, high sphericity,
monocrystalline “Northern White” silica sands of the Jordan, St. Peter and Wonowoc
formations with multiple tough layers using a patented process that permanently
anchors the coating to the sand grain surface. Because the process of tempering
fully cures each successive resin layer placed on the sand grain surface, the resin
coating increases the strength of the sand grain both by encapsulation and by
diffusing grain to grain stresses applied during closure. 12/20 grade may be either
from the Hickory formation or Ottawa type depending upon manufacturing location
and customer specifications.
TLC has the added benefit of "encapsulating" fines during any grain failure under
closure stress at depth, thereby preventing fines from migrating into the pore spaces
of the proppant pack and reducing permeability. As little as 5% fines can reduce
pack permeability by as much as 70% at low proppant concentrations.
TLC may be used in hydraulic fractured wells with bottom hole temperatures up to
600º F. Since TLC is precured or tempered, it has minimal bonding ability and will
not bond in the tubing or casing.

Tempered TF is Santrol’s economical precured resin coated “Twenty Forty” product
Tempered DC (TDC) is Santrol’s Dual Coat precured or tempered resin coated product
providing better crush, conductivity and permeability performance than TLC in with
moderate closure pressures (6,000 psi to 8,000 psi) where flowback is not a concern.
TDC is available in enhanced API 20/40, 16/30, and 12/20 mesh distributions.
TDC is manufactured by resin coating only API high sphericity, monocrystalline
“Northern White” silica sands of the Jordan, St. Peter and Wonowoc formations. The
first coat is a fully cured coat of resin to add toughness and encapsulate fines on
crushing. The next layer of resin is also fully cured to add strength and resilience to
the entire proppant pack once in the fracture. 12/20 grade may be either from the
Hickory formation or Ottawa type depending upon manufacturing location and
customer specifications.
TDC has lower fines generated on applied closure pressure than either TLC or TTF,
which adds to overall pack porosity. As little as 5% fines can reduce pack
permeability by as much as 70% at low proppant concentrations.
TDC may be used in hydraulic fractured wells with bottom hole temperatures up to
600º F. Since TDC is precured or tempered, it has minimal bonding ability and will
not bond in the tubing or casing.
