From the desk of the
Health Commissioner
Established in 1854…New Philadelphia proudly celebrates having its own
health department for the last 165 years!
It gives me great pleasure to introduce to you the New Philadelphia City
Health District 2018 Annual Report, presented to the New Philadelphia
City Board of Health on December 11, 2019, which provides an overview
of programs, services, events and accomplishments from the last year,
and highlights the direction the Health District has gone to prevent,
promote, and protect the health of New Philadelphia City residents.
In 2018, the Health District submitted an application to the Public Health
Accreditation Board (PHAB) and our Accreditation Coordinator completed
the required training. The completion of these required steps had to
happen to trigger the clock to start to upload the required documents.
The Tuscarawas County Community Health Assessment (CHA),
Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), and Strategic Plan became a
focal point in staff and community collaborative meetings. The Health
District continued to focus on improving the health and well-being of New
Philadelphia City by applying essential community feedback from the CHA
and CHIP to dedicate resources to priority areas while advancing the
mission of the Health District. It was encouraging to see this alignment.
The Health District also provided ongoing outreach and education services
within the New Philadelphia City Health Department community, improved
efficiency in program delivery methods, and implemented grant-funded
programming to reach the community in new and exciting ways. Several
events throughout the year presented the Health District with the
opportunity for outreach, health promotion and education. The programs
the Health District offers have gained efficiency, demonstrated by
successful evaluations from the Ohio Department of Health.
I could not be more proud of our wonderful staff and our Board of Health
for the manner in which they shared, supported and implemented our
Strategic Plan.
Vickie Ionno RN, Health Commissioner
