School Reports / Information Evening
Our beginning of year reports, which were to be sent home on this
Thursday 1st March will now be sent out next Thursday 7th March.
We have been working with the Education Review Office this week gathering data for them
and have got behind.
Our information evening will be held on Tuesday evening 13th March.
What is the Information Evening About?
We have found that in the interviews after the initial school report the majority of the
interviews are taken up with the same points of interest:
Homework expectation
Spelling
Class expectations
Basic facts / tables
In order to save repeating the same thing over and over we will hold an information evening
to go over those things as well as explain how the maths, reading and writing programmes,
work expectations, explain how we use National standards and suggest ways parents can help
support their child’s learning at home.
Information Evening Timetable
6.30 pm Wendy Yr1 Jodie Yr 5 / 6
6.50pm Diarmuid Yr 4 / 5 Helen Yr 2
7.10pm Judy Yr 3 / 4
Education Review Office Report
During the week we have had two Education Review Officers going through our school to
check how effective our school’s curriculum is at promoting student learning- engagement,
progress and achievement. To do this they have been checking through our self review data,
children’s achievement, teacher planning and programmes, visiting classes to observe
teachers and talk to the children.
Yesterday afternoon they gave an oral feedback of their findings to the Board. The report
they gave was extremely positive, with recognition of the great school community support,
positive school tone, children’s focus on learning and the high levels of achievement. They
will formally write it up and once completed it will be sent to the Board and then put on the
ERO website.
Golden Bay Schools’ Swimming Sports
Next Friday, the 9th March we will be taking part in the Golden Bay Schools’ Swimming
Sports at the GBHS pool, starting at 11.00am.
The sports this year will be held only for those able to
swim a length of the GBHS pool.
In order to select our team we will take the children to
the GBHS pool today and also next Tuesday morning to
give them practice in the longer pool.
Those swimming in the sports will be notified next
Tuesday.
Emergency Contact Numbers
We would like to remind parents to keep their child’s
contact information up to date at the office, especially
emergency contact numbers. In a time of emergency
(eg flooding) we have very little time to contact
parents or emergency numbers to send children home.

Science In Room 4 Helicopter We made a helicopter from a plan. I found that if you changed the wing flaps around, the helicopter spun the other way. If we added 1 paperclip it spun slowly but if we added 3 it went quite fast and the wings went up with the speed of it. Amber Thomason
Bouncing Egg We put an egg in vinegar and we couldn’t see much. We did see bubbles on the side of the egg. After 2 days we took the egg out and the shell had been eaten by the acid in the vinegar. The egg was soft and squishy. Lily Rose Balancing Egg
We cut out the shape of a parrot and tried to balance it on our finger. It wouldn’t balance, so we put plasticene on its tail and it did. We had to make sure the plasticene was even or the parrot leant to one side. I really like science especially the bouncing egg experiment. Holly Williams
Ghost Fish We stared at a coloured fish that we cut from cardboard for 2 seconds then we looked at a fish bowl we had drawn on white paper. We noticed that a coloured shadow of a fish appeared in the bowl. It was like magic. I wondered why it was a different colour? Maata Howard
