1st December 2016 Our school garden WINS again! Mr Jones, Jade, Amy, Emily Gentry, Olivia Gangemi, Ruth Littler and Matilda Shaw were invited to the Victorian School Garden Awards at the Botanical Gardens on Tuesday. Emily & Olivia were lucky enough to be selected to be a part of the aboriginal welcoming ceremony to acknowledge the Bunerong people, past and present. We are sure they will remember this experience for a very long time. We came home with a Regional Award (2nd year running) and a $350 Gardenworld voucher! Garden Club students are brainstorming ideas for items we can purchase. Congratulations to Moorabbin Primary School for taking home the Kevin Heinze Perpetual Award. The VSGA program is in it’s 39th year. $40,000 this year was given to schools in prize vouchers and equipment to help continue the growth of school gardens across Victoria. Green Thumbs and gardening club students were honoured to be a part of this special event. You can view the submission via the green thumbs link on the school website plus lots of other great news about the school garden. HORTICULTURAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION OF VICTORIA Last week Green Thumbs & the environmental team were privileged to host a garden tour for the members of this wonderful association. We toured the garden; with students showing them their favourite parts of the garden and made garden pizzas and herbal tea for everyone. It was a beautiful morning and finished with a certificate of appreciation for Green Thumbs’ achievement in working with children, teaching them how to grow food and the therapeutic benefits of being outdoors. It also came with a $100 gift voucher to help us tend to the school garden. The next day we (Amy & Jade) were invited to attend the annual conference and speak about our school garden and all that we do. We were very nervous but by the end we couldn’t stop talking as the audience had lots and lots of questions and admiration for our school garden. They were very impressed with the knowledge the environmental team shared with some of them the previous day. We were thrilled to be part of the day & very proud of the environmental students. We may just need a bigger pizza oven for the next lot of visitors. SCHOOL CHICKENS – it is with sadness that we say goodbye to another chicken. A couple of weeks ago we lost one lady and yesterday another. Yes they are getting old and need a little bit of extra quiet we think. Please be mindful and try to express to your children that the chickens need a quiet area. There are still plenty of eggs available at the office. All money donated helps to purchase their feed. Holiday Roster – the roster will be up shortly at the office for families who wish to care for the chickens and garden over the summer holidays.

HORTICULTURAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION OF VICTORIA

Last week Green Thumbs & the environmental team were privileged to host a garden tour for the members of this

wonderful association. We toured the garden; with students showing them their favourite parts of the garden and

made garden pizzas and herbal tea for everyone. It was a beautiful morning and finished with a certificate of

appreciation for Green Thumbs’ achievement in working with children, teaching them how to grow food and the

therapeutic benefits of being outdoors. It also came with a $100 gift voucher to help us tend to the school garden.

The next day we (Amy & Jade) were invited to attend the annual conference and speak about our school garden

and all that we do. We were very nervous but by the end we couldn’t stop talking as the audience had lots and lots

of questions and admiration for our school garden. They were very impressed with the knowledge the

environmental team shared with some of them the previous day. We were thrilled to be part of the day & very

proud of the environmental students.

Bonbeach Farmers’ Market!

Sunday 11th December

Open from 8:30am to 12:30pm

$2 donation per adult

School Banking day is Thursday. Remember, Thursday is School Banking day and students should bring in their weekly deposit.

For every deposit made at school, no matter how big or small, students will

receive a silver Dollarmites token. Once students have individually collected 10

tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward item in

recognition of their regular savings habits.

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school, raising 5% on every

deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).

If your child has lost their book, they can bring their money to school in a sealed

envelope with a note on the next School Banking day. We will issue them with a

replacement.

Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Bonbeach

Primary School.

Chelsea Community - Christmas Lunch

Have you ever asked yourself – What would Christmas be like, if you were alone? OR

If you could not afford to buy lunch for your family?

Last year our 5 & 6 year old asked if we could feed the needy on Christmas Day. We couldn’t find anything local to Chelsea; so this year we’ve

decided to start up something in our community.

Local community families in conjunction with St Joseph’s Parish & School, Chelsea, Community Church of Christ, Uniting Church of Australia

(Chelsea) and St Vincent de Paul are joining together to run a Community Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day.

We want to create an opportunity for people who are alone and don’t have

anywhere to go, to have a hot meal, dessert, music & entertainment within a friendly community.

We would like to offer a “Pantry Hamper” to as many guests as we can.

We are asking for donations from your pantry – any items that are suitable: Tins of food, pasta, sauces, rice, tuna, etc Toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes etc

There will be a collection box as you walk into school.

If you cannot help in person but would still like to contribute, you can make a

financial donation to help sponsor meals or a table.

To register your support or make a donation please email Vanessa on [email protected] or call St Joseph’s Parish Office

on: 9772 2211.
