NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) is implementing a new Patient Management System (TrackCare) which will provide a centralised service to all its acute hospitals. This sits on IBM Blade Centres, IBM DS5300 storage arrays and IBM SAN switches, running Cache on AIX 6.1 with HACMP. It will be monitored using Nagios and backed up with Symantec Netbackup. Printing is provided by Red Hat Linux CUPS servers and additional services also run on Red Hat Linux. While many systems will be replaced by TrackCare, other operational Unix systems include Laboratories, Radiology and analysis (SAS). This is a hands on role and you will lead a small team providing in depth understanding of our core Unix technologies. You will also maintain and enhance the Unix Team Service Catalogue and will own Standard Operating Tasks for Unix Infrastructure. The Unix Team will work closely with other Infrastructure teams: Wintel, Virtualisation and Storage and Network; and with Applications Teams in delivering an integrated customer service. You will be a hands-on technologist educated to degree level or equivalent in a technical subject with substantial experience, in-depth understanding of the relevant technologies, service management knowledge, and the interpersonal skills to deliver outcomes that may require multi team collaboration. Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) is modernising and upgrading its desktop infrastructure. Across acute hospitals 15,000 + desktops are migrating to one Active Directory. More than 200 applications have been either virtualised through APPV or packaged for deployment through SCCM as part of project implementation. Migration to Windows 7/IE8 is underway. Across community services 5,000 + desktops make use of Citrix with more than 80 published applications. Greater Glasgow and Clyde is now looking to setup an in house packaging team. The Team Leader is a key hands on packaging role requiring demonstrable packaging experience, and will provide a critical technical and quality assurance role ensuring that packages are developed, tested, documented, deployed and maintained appropriately. Your role will combine technical development and service management owning the Team's Service Catalogue and Application Deployment Depository. The Team will access other members of the Infrastructure and Applications Teams as required. Education to degree level in a technical subject or equivalent is expected along with substantial experience . You should also have significant experience in the area of application packaging, with experience in an IT management role and proven leadership skills. You must be able to demonstrate advanced skills in Wise Software/Package Studio, APP-V, scripting, MS AD, MS Desktop Operating Systems and a background of release and service management.
