coaching staff and current players.

ARCOLA ELEMENTARY SUMMER CAMPS

Registration Opens April 13 at 9:00pm

ALL CAMPS ARE CHARGED A $6 PTA REGISTRATION FEE. This $6 fee is paid onlineat the time of registration and is non-refundable unless the class is canceled due to lowenrollment.

Grade classification – Rising indicates the grade a student will be in next fall. For example, acurrent 1st grader is considered ‘Rising 2nd.’

Brain Cramp CampThe purpose of this camp is to enrich student thinking potential in an atmosphere designed for discovery. Through active engagement, students are challenged in novel ways to think outside the box. Students will learn to generate and expand on their ideas. The camp is filled with continuous activity and group competition supported by individual progress and motivators. Participants in this camp will accomplish the following; improve and develop their abilities to observe, compare, classify, design, imagine and hypothesize.

Chess CampStudents will absolutely love their chess summer camp experience. This program will utilize a time-tested chess curriculum that is popular in European countries that are considered the very best in the world. Students will become better decision makers, stronger problem solvers, and achieve more of their goals through enhanced cognitive abilities acquired in their chess enrichment program. Complete beginners will learn the basic moves and rules of the game. When kids are ready, they will study basic tactics and strategy. Professional chess coach/chess expert will discuss how the legends and masters of the games think and play during an actual chess game. There will be a highly-interactive class discussion utilizing the most powerful chess software/database. Kids will be given an opportunity to play against other kids who are about their age or skill level. Each student will receive a chess workbook/handouts in a binder. After this camp, students will be ready to join a US-rated chess tournaments.

Beginner class is designed for students who have no knowledge of the chess game or for those who are not sure about all the basic chess rules like 3-fold repetition, en passant, stalemate, checkmate patterns, 50-move rule, and chess notation.

Intermediate class is designed for students who are knowledgeable of the rules and have been to tournaments, camps, and after-school programs. Principles of tactics and strategy will be taught to prepare students for US-rated competitions

Chess Camp – Scholastic Chess PreparationThis is to prepare kids for a U.S. scholastic chess tournament. This summer chess camp program will prepare students on how to understand the intricate mechanics of chess and to make sure thatparticipants get the best available resources in preparing for chess competition and improve their chess knowledge, tournament results, and chess rating. The coach in this program is an active tournament player who is fresh from the World Open Chess Championship and will share to you the latest and most reliable opening system for both black and white that can help you achieve solid performance in scholastic chess tournament. Kids will learn the basics of chess endgames (opposition, rule of square, key squares, zugzwang, Lucena and Philidor Positions etc.). The coach will advise you on how to study chess on your own including chess book recommendations to use after the camp. This will be a highly-interactive class discussion utilizing the most powerful chess software/database. Kids will be given an opportunity to play against other kids who are about their age or skill level. Each student will receive a chess workbook/handouts in a binder. This course is designed for kids who understand the basics of chess tactics and strategy. This course will emphasize more advanced strategy, endgame, and opening preparation.

Claymation CampFill up your creativity and join the fun at Claymation camp. Campers expand their imagination and explore the worlds of clay and video making. This self-paced camp is for campers who want to explore the world of "stop animation". Campers will work to design their own stories, create clay figures, take digital photos, and work on computers to edit their work ending in a short video. Campers with or without animation and video editing skills are encouraged to enroll. Campers should bring a packed peanut-free lunch from home each day of camp. Campers will receive a DVD of their claymation projects.

Creative Crafting CampCreative campers need apply to use their imagination to create a variety of different crafts. Work with tile, paint, aluminum foil, tissue paper and many house hold items to create unique and clever projects. Everyday campers will be given the opportunity to work with supplies to construct a project to take home with them. Each camper will make at least five projects to take home and put on display. Campers should bring a packed peanut-free lunch from home each day of camp. Join us at Arcola to discover your creative talent!

Working individually and in small groups, campers will use LEGO®bricks (provided by Instructor) to construct unique creations following the LEGO Friends® theme. LEGO® Friends Camp is an opportunity for girls to share ideas, make new friends, and

have FUN while working together on LEGO projects, arts and crafts, games, and other LEGO-related fun! Campers should bring a packed peanut-free lunch from home each day. With a little help from her mice friends, and a lot of help from her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella goes to the ball, meets the Prince, and falls in love! Set to kid-friendly music of the classic Disney favorites, Arcola's adaptation of this timeless tale will come to life! Daily activities include improvisation and acting; dancing and choreography; singing, both solo, small group, and choral selections; character building and development; script memorization; stage direction and blocking; rehearsal for our end of the week performance for family and friends. This camp will conclude with a performance for family and friends at 5pm onFriday.

Duct Tape CampEver wonder what to do with extra duct tape? Create wallets, purses, lunch bags, pencil bags and much more with different patterns of duct tape. There is no limit to what can be created with a roll of duct tape. Each day campers will use duct tape, their imagination and their creativity to construct a new project. During the camp, each camper will make between 4 and 5 projects (May be more). It is required that each camper bring 2 rolls of tape to add to the tape provided by the instructors. Campers should bring a packed peanut-free lunch from home each day of camp.


Game CampCome in out of the heat and play some games. Play games that will challenge your mind, such asRush Hour, Sudoku, Head Bands, and many more. Each day campers will break into groups and play their choice of a wide variety of games. Choose from board games you love to play with your family and many Think Fun games. Camp will run from 1:00-4:00, right during the heat of the day. Come into the cool air with your friends and challenge them to a fun game!

Lego Animation CampBring your LEGO creations to life in your very own LEGO Movie! Campers will use their creativity to develop a story, build scenes using LEGOs, and create a movie using stop-motion animation technology. Campers should bring a packed peanut-free lunch from home each day ofcamp. On the last day of camp, we will share our LEGO Movie projects during our movie-viewing party with popcorn and movie snacks. Upon completion of the camp, each camper will receive a DVD containing a copy of their movie and a goody bag with a LEGO set.
