The Sons of EliHophni and Phinehas

The Sins of Eli1. He neglected the management

of his own sons, v20-22 2. His rebuke was too late and a

bit soft, v.22-253. He failed to protect the worship

of God from his own sons, v29a4. He feared his sons more than

God, v29b 5. He knew the sins but failed to

restrain and discipline them, 3:13

The Results 1. Sin grew like ravaging monster. 2. Sons became evil and hardened. 3. Israel’s worship defiled.4. Priesthood was taken from Eli’s

family, Samuel was raised.5. Sons died same day, as

promised6. Shiloh was judged and became

a lesson.7. Eli’s family reduced to begging

and lifespan shortened.

Action Plans

1. Repent – change your mind on discipline.

2. Restore – Bring God’s love and cause into the mix.

3. Restart – Begin serving the Lord this way.
