Lastyear,youhostedtheNewYearShow.Howwasit?Itwasagreatshow,Iputalotofeffortintoittogetthetimingsandalookbackat2009.IwantedtogivepeopleoutsideofScotlandthechanceto'seeinthenewyear'Scottishstyle.HogmanywasinventedinScotlandandIamaverypatrioticScot!!


Kingdom'24Hour'Beats?Kingdom'24Hour'BeatswasanideathatIhadtoraisemoneyforawonderfulcharity,NAS(NationalAutisticSociety).MysonLewissuffersfromADHD,asdoesthesonofregularlistenerSueFromTexas.DJPaladinleedsandformerpresenterAJalsosufferfromtheconditionAspergersSyndrome,bothoftheseconditionsareapartofautism,andsoIfeltthatIshoulddomybittobothhelpraisefundsandawarenessofAutism.Ihaddone24hourmarathonsbeforeduringmyhospitalradiodays,itwasgreatfunandIhadSpike&ValDkeepmeandthewifecompanyforthefull24hours...andanywaywhocouldforgetSpikeandhisthong?

Whatareyourhighlightsof2010sofar?IlovedbeingpartoftheTop500weekenderthatmarkedthe2ndyearofrunningfor1Radio,butpersonallysummer2010wasnotareallymemorablesummerduetowork,althoughinAugustIdidwinatripontheOrientExpresstotheRyderCupinWales.ThistookplacethefirstweekendinOctobersoyouguysneedtotuneintomyshowsafterthattofindoutmore.

Tellusabitaboutyourjourneythroughradio.Tobehonestitwasabitofafluke,in1992/93,Iwas

unemployedforafewweeksanddecidedIhadtogetajob,soIopenedtheyellowpagesatrandomandstuckmyfingerintoapageanddecidedwhatevermyfingerwasat,Iwouldapply(thankgodImissedtheescortspage).ItlandedonMobileDisco's,soIcalledthefirstcompanyandtoldthemthat"IhadalwayswantedtobeaDJ",theguyIspoketocouldn'thelpme,butputmeintouchwithhismateRoss,for15yearsIworkedwithRossandquicklydiscoveredthatIhadfinallyfoundsomethingthatinterestedme,andthatIenjoyed.IdecidedtoseehowIcouldexpanditandgotinvolvedwithRadioForth,HospitalRadioandtheninthenaughtynoughtiesinternetRadio,andthusfound1Radio.

Whichcurrent1RadioPresentersdoyoulikelisteningtoandwhy?

Ienjoylisteningtomostofthepresenterson1RadioandIthinkwehaveprofessionalsoundingDJ'ssuchasSpike&Tim.Ienjoytheirstylesofpresentingandyoucantelltheyhavefunpresenting.IalsoenjoylisteningtoJohnnyP&MarkGrieve,butthenagainIambiasedastheyaregoodmateswhoIhaveknownalongtimeoutsideofRadio.IalsoenjoylisteningtoRhodders,Helpsy&sometimesDJPaladinleeds(untilheplaysDragonforce!)forthecomedyelement.

IthinkwehaveanewbreedofDJ/PresenterscomingthroughsuchasLiam&Seb,DannyF,Scott&Stephen,whoIseeasenthusiastic.Althoughalotyoungerthanme,andperhapswedon'tsharethesameinterestsortypesofmusic,Iseethemasthefuture,althoughIhopethatmanyofusolderwiserheadswillstickaroundtohelpnurturethemandplaytothe25+agegroups!


Gregory Isaacs Octobersawthedeathofanotherlegendfromtheworldofreggae,JamaicansingerandsongwriterGregoryIsaacs.GregoryIsaacs,whosesmooth,laidbackstyleearnedhimthenicknames"TheCoolRuler"and"LonelyLover"diedathisLondonhomeaged59.Hehadbeendiagnosedwithlungcanceroverayearago,buthadcontinuedperformingandrecordinguntiljustweeksbeforehisuntimelydeath.IsaacswifeLindadescribedhimas"welllovedbyeveryone,hisfansandhisfamilyaddingheworkedreallyhardtomakesurehedeliveredthemusictheylovedandenjoyed."Withhisdistinctivevoiceandfun,simplelyrics,Isaacs'musicbelongedmostlytothegenreofReggaeknownasLoversRock.Hisbestknownandmostsuccessfulsongwasthetitletrackfromhis1982album"NightNurse,"which

The4thofOctobersawTinieTempahreleasehisfirststudioalbum.,Discovery.

TheBritishrappersstunningnewalbumreceivedpraisefromsimilaracts.The

wholealbumprovidesvarietywithalonglistofguestsincludingEllieGoulding,KellyRowlandandwellknowproducer,Labrinth.ThepublicwentmadforitwhichultimatelysawDiscoverydebutatnumber1intheUKalbumschartwithawhopping84,993salesinthefirstweek.Nowofcoursewegetdowntothemusic.Startingoffwiththesingles,PassOut,FriskyandWrittenInTheStarswhichweallknowandlove.Thenwegetdowntothenewstuff,thebassyintrowiththesynthesisedvoicebutotherthanthatanormalrapwithsomeclassyeffects!NextwehaveSimplyUnstoppable,anotherD&Bstyletrack,moresothanmostofhismusic(but

stillupthere).Illusiondoesntreallystrikememuch,undecidedonthis

onebutwillprobablygetintoitafterrepeatedlistens.IliketherhythmofJustaLittlebutitgetsboringinparts(nonchorus)andasforSnapIthinkitsabitslowtogetstarted.AsforMiami2IbizastillagreattunebutdontreallyknowwhatTinieaddstoitifImbeinghonest.NextbringsupObsessionwhichIfoundquiteboringandisprecededby2reallynicetracksImtakingtoquitealot,InvincibleandWonderman.Finallythelasttrack,LetGowhichisaquitenicesongtofinishthealbumwith,althoughIwouldhavepreferredtohaveitabitmoretuneful.

OverallIthinkitsagreatalbum,admittedlyIthinkthe3singlesarethebest(theygivethealbumaprettyhighmark),someoftheothersputupahardcontestandshouldntbethoughtoflightlybut

othersdisappointinsections.

So,thestageissetforthebiggestshowof2011.Anditsbeenthesubjectofmuchdiscussionanddebateintheshoutboxat1Radio.Robbieisbackonboardandeveryone'sfavouriteboybandareraringtogo.TakeThatwillplaynumerousstadiumshowsthroughoutthesummerof2011,includingfournightsatbothTheCityOfManchesterStadiumandWembleyStadiuminLondon.BookingfortheTakeThat2011ProgressTourisupandrollingandfanshavebeenscramblingfortickets.1Radio'sWillReid,loverof80sdiscoandclosetTakeThatfan,wasfirstamongstthethousandsofpeopletryingtoblagticketswhenbookingsopenedinlateOctober.Whenquestioned,heclaimedtheywereforthewife.Hiswifesaysdifferent.Sadly,Willandmanymorewereleftfrustratedandannoyedasthewebseemedtogrindtoahaltassitessellingticketsfailedtocopewiththedemand.Fakewebsitestoowereahazardfortheuninitiatedwithtalesofscoresofunsuspectingfolkbeingsolddudtickets.

Nevertheless,laterintheday,Willproudlyannouncedintheshoutboxthathe'dbaggedfourticketsfollowinghoursofclickingandsurfing.Despitethetechnicaldifficulties,itwasreportedthatanestimated1millionticketsweresoldinlessthan24hourswhenbookingopened.Meanwhile,TakeThatfanswillbehopingthatRobbieWilliamsreturntothefoldwillmakethisanexcitingandunforgettabletour.Ofcourse,Robbiehasn'tavoidedcontroversysincereturning.Theband'sPRconferencewasnotableforaRobbieoutburst,provingtherecentlymarriedstarisstillaRebelRebel,thoughthere'snodoubtthatGaryBarlowisstilltheLeaderOfTheGang.TheenormousclamourforticketsshowsthatTakeThatarestillaspopularaseverandthereturnoftheRobbiehasonlyaddedtotheinterest.CriticswillofcourseclaimtheyareonlyinitforthecashbutdiehardfansaswellasthosenewtotheTakeThatphenomenawillnotcareeitherway.Whicheversideofthefenceyousit,itsgonnabebig!
