Important - Please NoteSD Cards: For reliable operation, Ovation recommends the use of SanDisk Extreme SD cards. Cards must be
formatted FAT 32 before use. This is achieved by inserting the card into the FlashBack-3G and pressing the format button as shown in Section 3.
SIM Card: From firmware version 4.3 onwards, FlashBack-3G communicates and streams video via a fixed IP server. This allows the system to operate any SIM card (ie no need for a fixed IP SIM). You will need to know the APN, username and password of your SIM, along with the IP address of the Server. Ovation provide a server for testing at address 54.247.181.57.
Heat: When streaming and recording the unit can run hot and should not be operated in an ambient temperature above 50°C. Where possible it is strongly recommended to use the mounting lugs to attach the unit to a metallic surface to help dissipate heat.

Format an SD card: Insert an SD card and press the recessed format button until Status LED starts flashing fast-red. Format is complete when LED stops flashing.
Reset to defaults: Switch off by holding the [Stop] button for 5 seconds. Remove the SD card and then press the format button during the complete 30 second boot sequence. Reboot and reinsert card.
Basic Installation:
Configuring The Flashback-3G41. Firstly format the SD card by inserting into the FlashBack-3G and powering-up the
unit. After the system has booted (about 30 seconds) press the Format button. While formatting, the LED shows fast flashing red.
2. After formatting, FlashBack-3G adds a configuration Wizard to the SD card. Remove the card and insert into your PC and double-click "FB3-Config-Wizard." and follow the instructions below:
The final page of the Wizard sets up the RS232 function Time Zone etc. Click [Save] to save a file called “settings.txt” file to the SD card. Transfer the card back to your FlashBack-3G and re-boot at which point the new settings are loaded.
* The default Registry IP of 54.247.181.57 shown in the Wizard is Ovation’s server which may be used for testing. For security, it is strongly recommended to setup your own registry server. Contact for more information. [email protected]
3. Select the “Video & audio recording” and “3G SIM / FindMe Server” options.
4. Set the video & audio recorder parameters as required. Click Next.
5. Enter the 3G SIM parameters, Group ID and Registry IP. Keep a note of the Group ID and Registry IP* as you will need to load these into FindMe on the remote viewing PC (Section 6).
Always press stop before removing SD card (even if not recording).

Basic DVR Operation and Playback:
1. Ensure the system has been configured by the Wizard in Section 4.
2. Connect a 7 to 24 V DC power supply to the unit.
3. FlashBack-3G now boots, indicated by a slow flashing red Status LED for approximately 30 seconds.
4. Connect a camera to the video input (FlashBack-3G can power the camera with 5, 9 or 12 V, set via the Wizard or the web-page interface).
5. When ready to record, the DVR Status LED shows static green indicating the video input is OK and there’s space on the SD card.
6. Start recording by pressing the “record” button or by connecting the blue and braid (black) wires of the control cable with a switch. The DVR Status LED flashes green when successfully recording.
7. Stop recording by pressing the “record stop” button or opening the record switch. Do not remove the SD card until the Status LED stops flashing red (usually takes less than 1 second).

Playback of SD Card Recordings
To playback remove the SD card and insert into your PC and navigate to the “FLV” folder. FLV files are playable in VLC but require a codec download to play in Windows Media Player (eg the K-Lite codec pack). Both applications are available for download from the “Useful Applications Section” of Ovation’s Secure User Area .www.ovation2.co.uk

NB► The FLV file creation dates shown in the Windows Explorer list are UTC (ie do not include the time zone or daylight savings offset).
TIP►
NB►
You can easily load all the files into VLC by double-clicking the “VideoPlaylist.pls” file in the root of the SD card. You can then navigate forwards and backwards through the files by clicking the highlighted buttons or select a start point using the “Play list” button.
VLC has to be configured to playback time-lapse recordings via "Tools" > "Preferences" > "Input & Codecs" and set the "Default caching policy" to "Higher Latency”

Controlling and viewing remote devices is via a PC application called FindMe which connects to the FlashBack-3-G via the Registry Server. FindMe and the Registry Servers sofware is supplied on a CD with the equipment, or, is available for download from Ovation's Secure User Area www.ovation2.co.uk. Once set up, this application automatically lists all your active FlashBack-3G devices connected to the Registry Server with the same Group ID.
You must input the same Registry IP and Group ID as entered in the configuration Wizard (Section 4) via “Setup” > “Registry IP & Group ID” before FindMe will be able to contact and list your devices.
NB►
FindMe PC application lists all your devices connected to the Registry Sever with the same Group ID
After configuring with the Wizard (section 4) insert your SIM, connect the 3G antenna, camera and DC power. After booting, the modem LEDs go through a sequence as the unit attempts to connect to the network and the registry server. This can take up to 2 minutes. If successful, and connected to a 3G network, the modem LEDs will show 3 static greens (2 greens, if connected to a 2G network).

2. The far left (modem status) LED flashing red confirms data is being transmitted / received. This LED showing static green at the same time indicates a 3G signal. No green = 2G connection.
3. Network status LED showing static green means the system has successfully logged onto the network.
4. Streaming LED showing static green confirms the unit has logged onto the Registry Server.
5. Flashing streaming LED indicates video is being streamed to the server. In this mode the Modem status LED shows constant red & green (orange) when connected 3G or constant red (2G).
