Governor Greetings Division 22/24! As we all wind down from the fun and excitement of DCON, we must start a new term and pave a new path for 2013-2014. I am sure that everyone had an enjoyable time meeting fellow Key Clubbers from across the Pacific Northwest District. However, this is the start of an entirely new year in Key Club time and a new cast has arisen to replace the old one. First off, I would like to introduce myself! My name is John Redfield, I go to Roosevelt High School, and I am the new Lieutenant Governor of Division 22/24. I will be your leader, your guide, and hopefully your good friend as I strive to meet as many members of 22/24 as I can in my upcoming term. It is an honor to be placed in this position, and I want to thank our previous Lieutenant Governor Vy Nguyen for guiding me through the three month transitioning period into the office. Vy has been a really close friend in the past few years of my membership in Roosevelt’s Key Club. She has constantly encouraged me to challenge myself and to reach higher heights. She will be missed by all, and she will surely be remembered. For the newly appointed officers of Division 22/24, I would like to express my congratulations on behalf of your elections! District Convention 2013

Every year, Key Clubbers across the Pacific Northwest District gather together at the Double Tree Hotel in SeaTac, Washington to attend the annual District Convention, or DCON. It is here that members of Key Club International can come together to spend a weekend immersed in exciting workshops and activities. DCON is also the site of the installation of the new District Board and the retirement of

The candidates running for the District Executive Board were also introduced, and they made their first impressions. An hour after the session, caucusing took place. Key Clubbers were divided into separate meeting rooms to interact with the candidates. Caucusing lasted for three hours, and Friday night’s curfew was 12:15. On Saturday morning, Key Clubbers awoke to hastily eat breakfast, and then headed to the four workshops offered throughout the day. Concurrently, there was a blood drive from 9am to 1pm. From 11am to 1pm, delegates voted for the candidates while everyone else ate lunch at noon. The Governor’s Banquet started at 4pm and lasted for an hour and fifteen minutes. Soon after, the Talents and Awards Session began.

At the Talents and Awards Session it was announced that Division 22/24 had won the Spirit Stick. This meant that we were one of the top two most spirited divisions at the whole convention! Good job guys!! This year we are sharing the Spirit Stick with the Division 33 Krakens, so please be careful not to damage it while we are decorating. After the Awards Session, the Governor’s Ball took place. Clubbers could decide

the old one. This year’s DCON was held from the 22nd of March to the 24th. Around 1500 Key Clubbers arrived on Friday afternoon, energetic and ready for a weekend full of wild fun. Clubbers from Division 22/24 started arriving at four o’clock, and everyone made it before the Opening General Session, which ran from 5:30pm-8:15pm. During that time, Project Educate, The Eliminate Project, and the One Dollar for Life projects were presented. Following that was the motivational keynote speaker, Brett Eastburn, who showed us that even though the world may label you as disabled, you are only as disabled as you allow yourself to be.

whether they wanted to dance the night away, or entertain themselves in the Game Room. The curfew was at 12:30, but numerous people decided to order pizza to satisfy their raging, animal-like hungers. Breakfast was NOT served in the morning, and unfortunately the Inspirational Closing Message was neither SEEN nor HEARD by any Key Clubber the next day. I know that many people were anticipating it, and I am sorry to say that I have no idea what went wrong. That and the Key TV malfunction were the only disappointments this year. Hopefully next year will be a tad bit more successful, and Key TV may finally be broadcasted! I hope you all had fun this year at DCON!

Hello! My name is Robert the Red

Panda, and this is our year’s

Vision

1) More active involvement

2) More joint opportunities

3) More spirit!

What do I mean by more active involvement? This year I hope to work with the presidents,

vice presidents, and bulletin editors of each school to ensure that the awareness level of

Key Club remains at an all time high. We need to show the world that we’re the biggest

and the best service club ever!! If you have any suggestions how to better the active

membership of Key Clubs in schools, or need any help raising membership levels, please

keep in close contact with me!

I want each of our schools to foster the belief that our clubs are part of one great family:

Division 22/24. There may be some rivalry between schools, but rivalry cannot be

condoned between our clubs! This year, I hope to provide as many joint volunteer

opportunities as possible. In doing so, I want to bridge the progressively growing gap

between our schools so that we can realize that we’re all working together. Let’s put our

differences behind us and make a great foundation for years to come!

This year we won the spirit stick. It was a great honor, and a great privilege. The spirit stick

was a reminder of our boundless passion that we have for our Key Clubs. However, we

must move further and show that we will have as much spirit in the upcoming year as we

did in the last. To start this “Spirit Campaign”, I will be designing several clothing items for

our division, and based on interests levels you guys can help me to decide what to order.

We will also have a joint gathering to decorate our spirit stick. Keep an eye out for

updates as this process unfolds!

Relay for Life

CMNH is an international non-profit organization

that raises funds for children’s hospitals,

medical research and community awareness of

children’s health issues. Key Club participates with

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by

sponsoring fundraising events.

For decades, Key Club has partnered with the March of Dimes to give

every baby a healthy start. Key Club members

raise thousands of dollars annually through various

programs, including collecting change,

holding dances and taking part in March of

Dimes’ signature event, March for Babies.

Since 1994, Key Club has been Trick-or-Treating for

UNICEF and over the years has raised nearly US$5 million for iodine

deficiency programs worldwide and HIV and

AIDS programs in Kenya and Swaziland. Now it’s

helping The Eliminate Project.

Each year, more than 4 million people from 20

countries partake in Relay for Life to raise the awareness of cancer and to fundraise in the

battle against it. These much-needed funds will be used to help save countless lives. In

Seattle, there have always been many different Relay for Life events. The one which

Roosevelt, Ingraham and Shorecrest usually participate in is the Shoreline Relay for Life at Kings High School. The Ballard Key Club usually

participates in the Relay for Life of Northwest Seattle, located at Whitman Middle School.

Relay for Life is a 24-hour event filled with awesome activities and amazing people. Sign

up as soon as you can! You won’t regret it!!
