1.About Department: Description of department, year of establishment; 1998
Establishment of the Department
The department of Microbiology was established in the year 1998 with B.SC
(M.B.C) where Microbiology was taught as one of the subject. In the year 2018-19 B.SC
(M.Z.C) course was also started. The department all over the years acquired a lot of materials
and equipments, charts, Permanent slides, and around 20 microscopes including Binocular
research microscopes, Hot air oven, Incubator, Laminar air flow, Autoclave, Shaker incubator,
Electronic Balance, Distilled Water Plant, Water Bath, Quebec Colony Counter, Magnetic
Stirrer, Laminar Flow Chamber, colorimeters, micropipettes etc.
In addition to the regular class room teaching, department also provides Innovative teaching
methods with the help of ICT, OHP, and Audio-visual techniques. Guest lectures, seminar talks
are also arranged by eminent experts in the subject. Extra classes are taken for academically
weak students towards remedial coaching. For the benefit of the students a reading room is
provided in the Departmental library where we have kept some important reference books and
Journals. The students can study them under the guidance of the teaching staff. By regularly
attending T-SAT (MANA TV) programme the knowledge in the field of Microbiology is further
enriched.
The department also gives some project works to the advanced learners.
In general all the students are made to involve in the academic activities like quiz competitions,
writing assignments, participating in class room seminars, carrying out glossary works,
preparation of charts etc.
In the year 2015-2016 CBCS system was introduced. Under this system
several courses were opted by the students, which make them enriched with multidisciplinary
courses. And also we are inculcating the habit of research spirit among students at undergraduate
level by giving them students study projects under jignasa programme. We are also giving career
guidance to the students for their higher studies.
