The Operator’s Guide and SafetyHandbook have been prepared to ac-quaint the owner/operator or passen-ger with this personal watercraft andits various controls, maintenance andsafe riding instructions. Each is indis-pensable for the proper use of theproduct, and should be kept in a wa-terproof bag with the watercraft at alltimes.For any questions pertaining to thewarranty and its application, consultthe WARRANTY section in this Guide,or an authorized SEA-DOO dealer.This Guide uses the following sym-bols to emphasize particular informa-tion.

NOTE: Indicates supplementary infor-mation needed to fully complete an in-struction.

Although the mere reading of such in-formation does not eliminate the haz-ard, the understanding and applicationof the information will promote its cor-rect use.The information and components/sys-tem descriptions contained in thisGuide are correct at the time of publi-cation. ◆ SAFETY WARNING

To fully appreciate the pleasures, en-joyment and excitement of boatingthere are some basic rules that MUSTbe observed and followed by any boat-er. Some rules may be new to youwhile others may be common senseor obvious, irrespective, we ask thatyou please take a few minutes of yourtime to read these safety instructionscompletely before you operate yourcraft. Failure to follow this safety in-formation and safe boating rulescould result in injury, including thepossibility of death to you, yourpassenger(s), or other water users.Information in this Guide is limited. Itis strongly recommended that you ob-tain further boating information fromthe local Coast Guard or Power Squad-ron. We further recommend you takea boating safety course. Check localand federal boating laws applicable tothe waterways where you intend touse the craft. Learn the local rules ofthe road.Become completely familiar with thecontrols and operation of the craft be-fore taking on a passenger(s) or em-barking on a trip. If you have not hadthe opportunity to do so with yourdealer, practice driving solo in a suit-able area and feel the response ofeach control. Be fully familiar with allcontrols before fully advancing thethrottle.The performance of this craft may sig-nificantly exceed that of other craftyou may have operated. Therefore,use of this craft by a novice or inexpe-rienced operator is not recommended.Observe and follow all on-productwarning labels and the content of thisGuide.Always use spark plug cable ground-ing device when removing sparkplugs.

Operator and passenger(s) shouldwear suitable body protection, as wellas deck shoes or booties. Long hair orloose clothes should be securely at-tached to prevent snagging in the wa-ter intake.Coast Guard approved personal flota-tion devices (PFD) must be wornwhen riding the watercraft.Operation of this craft by a minor ordisabled person is NOT recommend-ed.Do not operate the craft after consum-ing alcohol or drugs.Always perform the pre-operationchecks as specified in this Guide. Thisincludes:– Attaching the safety lanyard.– Verification of throttle lever and

steering movement.– Verification of start/stop button op-

eration.– Oil and fuel levels.– Adequate water depth.– Required boating equipment. (Know

how to use each).The operator and passenger(s) mustbe properly seated before starting ormoving the craft.Wave or wake jumping can be danger-ous and in many regions illegal.Most boating accidents result fromthe failure of the operator to keep alookout for other water users or otherpotential hazards. Keep a safe dis-tance from other boats. Do not at-tempt to splash others with yourwake. Do not ride on the surf line.To prevent accidental starting or unau-thorized use, always detach the safetylanyard from the boat, especially dur-ing maintenance, cleaning of the in-take grate, or when swimmers arenearby.

Ensure that all passengers know howto reboard the craft from the water.Always have an observer while towinga skier.Know the waters in which the craft isto be operated. Current, tides, rapids,shallow water, hidden obstacles etc.,can affect safe operation.When boating, apply the principle of1/3 fuel to destination, 1/3 back and1/3 reserve fuel supply.Maintain the craft and equipment intop condition at all times. Adhere tothe prescribed maintenance sched-ules.The bilge must be kept clean of oil,water or other foreign materials. Donot carry spare fuel and inflammableliquids in any of the storage or enginecompartments.Avoid adding on accessories, or equip-ment which may alter the craft's con-figuration or balance. Only perform servicing procedureswhich are detailed in this Guide. Fur-ther assistance or information can beobtained from your dealer. In many in-stances proper tools and training is re-quired for certain servicing or repairprocedures.Gasoline fumes are inflammable andexplosive. Always adhere to the fuel-ing procedure contained in this Guideand those given to you by the marina.Always keep in mind that as thethrottle lever is released to idle po-sition, less directional control isavailable. To turn the craft, bothsteering and throttle are necessary.This craft has the capability of turn-ing more sharply than other boats,however, unless in an emergency,do not negotiate sharp, high speedturns.

Like any other boat, this craft has nobrake. Stopping distance will vary de-pending on initial speed, load, wind,and water conditions. Practice stop-ping and docking in a safe area to havean idea of how long it will take to stopthe craft under varying conditions.Prolonged exposure to the sun, wind,etc., causes fatigue and may affectyour reaction time.Do not overload the craft or take onmore passengers than designated forthe intended type of boating. Load andaltitude will also affect craft perfor-mance.Riding with a passenger(s) makes thecraft handle differently and requiresgreater skill.Proceed with caution and at very lowspeeds in shallow water. Grounding orabrupt stops may result, or debris maybe picked up and be jettisoned rear-ward to people or property.As the “skipper” of a boat you are re-sponsible for damage to other boatscaused by the wake of your craft. Re-spect no wake zones.Respect the rights of other water us-ers and the environment. Allow noone to throw refuse overboard.Do not operate the craft in inclementweather.This watercraft is not designed fornight-time operation.Lifting the craft requires special equip-ment and experience. Do not attemptto lift the craft without such experi-ence or equipment.Respect the safety and comfort ofyour passenger(s) and persons beingtowed on skis or other water toys.Always carry the regulatory requiredsafety items on board. Check with lo-cal regulations or your dealer.

Due to the close proximity of otherracers, it is recommended that an ap-proved personal watercraft helmet beused during racing events. Read andfollow all instructions and warningsprovided with the helmet.The engine and the correspondingcomponents identified in this guideshould not be utilized on product(s)other than those they were designedfor. Maintenance procedures andspecified tightening torques must bestrictly adhered to. Never attempt re-pairs unless the appropriate tools areavailable. These watercraft are de-signed with parts dimensioned in boththe metric and the imperial systems.When replacing fasteners, make sureto use only those recommended byBombardier.The forces generated on the body ofwatercraft riders while turning, ne-gociating waves, choppy waters,wakes or falling off the watercraftmay cause injury including the pos-sibility of broken legs and bones.Remain flexible and avoid sharpturns.Ride prudently and have fun.

- CAUTION

This vehicle is not designed forunderwater operation. Combus-tion engine needs air to operate;consequently this vehicle can notbe totally watertight. Any man-ouvers that keep the upper deckunder water may cause severeengine problems due to water in-gestion. Refer to the Limited War-ranty further in this guide.

BOMBARDIER LIMITED WARRANTY:1999 SEA-DOO® WATERCRAFT

1. WARRANTY COVERAGE PERIODBOMBARDIER INC. (“Bombardier”), as manufacturer, warrants FROM THEDATE OF DELIVERY TO THE FIRST CONSUMER that each 1999 SEA-DOO wa-tercraft sold, as NEW and UNUSED and PREDELIVERED by an authorized NorthAmerican SEA-DOO watercraft dealer, will be free from any defects in materialand/or workmanship for a PERIOD of:TWELVE (12) CONSECUTIVE MONTHS, for private use owners, orFOUR (4) CONSECUTIVE MONTHS for commercial use owners.All genuine Bombardier accessories, installed by an authorized SEA-DOO dealerat the time of delivery of the new and unused SEA-DOO, carry the same Warran-ty Coverage Period as for the SEA-DOO watercraft.

2. WHAT BOMBARDIER WILL DOBOMBARDIER will repair or replace, at its option, all genuine BOMBARDIERparts found defective in material and/or workmanship, under normal use, main-tenance and service, with a genuine BOMBARDIER part without charge for partsand labor, at any authorized SEA-DOO dealer during the Warranty Coverage Peri-od.

3. CONDITION TO HAVE WARRANTY WORK VALIDATEDThe customer must notify an authorized SEA-DOO watercraft dealer within two(2) days of the appearance of the defect in material and/or workmanship andpresent to the servicing authorized SEA-DOO dealer the SEA-DOO WarrantyRegistration Card or a proof of purchase of the NEW and UNUSED 1999 SEA-DOO watercraft and must sign the repair/work order prior to the start of therepair in order to validate a warranty repair. All parts replaced under this limitedwarranty become the property of BOMBARDIER.

4. EXCLUSIONS - ARE NOT WARRANTED• Normal wear and tear items;• Labor, parts and lubricant costs of all maintenance services;• Damage caused by failure to provide proper maintenance and/or storage, as

described in the “1999 SEA-DOO watercraft Operator's Guide”;• Damage resulting from improper repairs, modifications or use of non-approved

parts or, repairs done by a non-authorized SEA-DOO dealer;• Damage resulting from abuse, misuse, neglect, racing;• Damage resulting from accident, fire, theft, vandalism or any act of God;• Incidental or consequential damages, or damages of any kind as but not limit-

ed to towing charges, telephone calls or taxi; • Water damages caused by water ingestion;• Damage related to gel coat finish including but not limited to cosmetic gel coat

finish, blisters or fiberglass delamination caused by blisters, crazing, spyder orhairline cracks; and

• Damages resulting from improper service or maintenance.

5. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITYThis warranty gives you specific rights, and you may also have other legal rightswhich may vary from state to state, or province to province. COMPONENTS FUNCTIONS

1) HandlebarThe handlebar controls the direction ofthe watercraft. Turning the handlebarto the right steers the watercraft tothe right and inversely.

2) Throttle LeverIt controls the speed of the engine andtherefore, the speed of the watercraft.When squeezed, watercraft acceler-ates. When fully released, engine au-tomatically returns to idle speed andwatercraft is gradually stopped by wa-ter drag.

Do not depress lever unnecessarily. Afuel accelerator pump delivers fuel tothe engine each time throttle lever isapplied.

3) Engine Start/Stop Button

To start engine, depress and hold thebutton. Release immediately after en-gine is started.To stop engine, fully release throttle le-ver then depress the button and dis-connect safety lanyard from the switch.

With the Digitally Encoded SecuritySystem, leaving the safety lanyard formore than 10 minutes after stoppingthe engine will require the removaland reinstallation of the safety lanyardon the switch to allow engine starting.

4) Choke LeverAll Models except GSX RFI andGTX RFI

The choke is provided to supply a rich-er fuel/air mixture when starting a coldengine. When the lever is completelypulled, the choke is fully applied. Theuse of the choke is not recommendedwith a warm engine.

◆ WARNING

Check handlebar and correspond-ing steering nozzle operation be-fore starting.

◆ WARNING

Check throttle lever operation be-fore starting the engine.

- CAUTION

Engine can be flooded if throttlelever is applied several times. Ifengine is flooded, it will not start.

5) Fuel ValveAll Models except GTX RFI andGSX RFI

A 3-position rotating valve: OFF, ONand RESERVE:OFF: Stop fuel supply to carburetor(s).

ON: Allows fuel to flow to carbure-tor(s). This is the normal positionfor operation of watercraft.

RES: Use when the watercraft has runout of fuel in the ON position.

Always refill the fuel tank at the firstopportunity. After refueling, turn thefuel valve to the ON position to contin-ue operation.

6) Safety Lanyard SwitchThe safety lanyard cap must be se-curely snapped onto its switch to befully operational.Pulling the safety lanyard cap from theswitch stops the engine operation. At-tach the safety lanyard to the opera-tor's Personal Flotation Device andsnap the cap to the switch to be ableto start the engine.

Digitally Encoded Security SystemThis system allows an anti-start pro-tection against unauthorized use ofthe craft. Dealer programmed, thesafety lanyard provided with your wa-tercraft is the only one that allows en-gine starting.NOTE: Two short beeps must beheard when installing the safety lan-yard cap on the switch. Otherwise, re-fer to the TROUBLESHOOTING sec-tion.The watercraft micro-processor canbe programmed to allow the use of upto 8 safety lanyards. For your conve-nience, we recommend the purchaseof additional safety lanyards from yourauthorized dealer. It will prove to beuseful in case of loss as well as for ad-ditional operators.With the DESS, leaving the safety lan-yard for more than 10 minutes afterstopping the engine will require the re-moval and reinstallation of the safetylanyard on the switch to allow enginestarting.

- CAUTION

Turn valve to OFF position whenwatercraft is not operated.

- CAUTION

A partially open fuel valve willlead to fuel starvation and possi-ble engine damage.

Should the safety lanyard cap be-come loose or fails to remain onits switch, replace it immediately.

When pushed in, the watercraft is inforward. To obtain neutral, unlock le-ver by turning it counterclockwise,then pull lever until neutral mark ap-pears on rod. To engage reverse, re-peat same procedure as for neutral,but pull lever until reverse mark ap-pears on rod. Lever locks in forwardand in neutral positions only.

MULTIFUNCTION GAUGE OPERATION

DISPLAY PRIORITIESThe clock/compass function is the ba-sic mode of the Info Center gauge.Use the compass as a guide only.Not to be used for navigation pur-poses.The chronometer, tachometer andspeedometer are the only othermodes that may be chosen to replacethe clock/compass mode.If another mode is chosen, the clock/compass mode will be displayed againafter 4 seconds.The Info Center also features a redwarning LED which blinks wheneverone of the following circumstancesoccur: engine overheating, low fuel,low oil and low voltage.For example, if the fuel level is low, theLED and the message LOW FUEL willblink.As a self test, all LCD segments andthe LED will turn on for 3 secondseach time the watercraft is started.In the event of a warning messagesuch as low fuel, hi-temp, etc., themessage will blink and override all oth-er display functions.If more than one warning message oc-curs, the messages will blink and re-appear every 4 seconds.

SCROLLING FUNCTIONSPress the MODE button until the de-sired function is displayed on the InfoCenter gauge.

RESET A FUNCTIONTo reset a function such as the chro-nometer, peak speed, distance, etc.,press and hold the SET button for 2seconds while in the appropriate mode.

LANGUAGE OPTIONWhile in the clock/compass mode,press and hold the SET button for atleast 2 seconds. Language option willbe displayed.Press the MODE button to scroll lan-guage (English, French and Spanish).Press the SET button to confirm thedesired language and return to theclock/compass mode.

ENGLISH/METRIC OPTIONPress and hold both MODE and SETbuttons for at least 2 seconds. Thesystem will be automatically changed.

CHRONOMETERWhile in the chronometer mode,press the SET button to start and stopthe chronometer.Press the SET button for 2 seconds toreset the chronometer.

FUEL AND LUBRICATION

Fueling Procedure

Do not allow anyone to remain on thewatercraft.Do not smoke or allow open flames inthe vicinity.Have a fire extinguisher close at hand.Do not insert the spout too far in fillerneck.Pour fuel slowly so that air can escapefrom the tank and prevent fuel flow-back.Do not lean watercraft while fueling.Fill fuel tank to bottom of filler neck.Do not overfill. Fully tighten fuel tankcap and wipe off any fuel spillage.

Recommended FuelUse regular unleaded gasoline with 87octane (Ron + Mon)/2 specification.NOTE: Look on service station pumpsticker for octane specification. Do notmix oil with fuel except at enginebreak-in. Refer to BREAK-IN PERIOD.Always check injection oil tank levelwhen refueling.The use of good quality fuel is neces-sary. A well known fuel brand is highlyrecommended.

Recommended OilSPX, GS, GTS and GTI Models

Use BOMBARDIER-ROTAX injectionoil which is available from authorizeddealers. It is a blend of specially se-lected base oils and additives whichprovides proper lubrication, enginecleanliness and minimum spark plugfouling.NOTE: High quality low ash API TC in-jection oil for 2-cycle engines can beused if BOMBARDIER-ROTAX injec-tion oil is not available.

◆ WARNING

Follow these safe boating fuelinginstructions explicitly.

◆ WARNING

Do not lean the watercraft to al-low more fuel to fill the fuel tank.The tank design makes provisionfor fuel expansion of about 5%. Ifthis area is filled, fuel will expandand may come out through fuelvent. Always stop the engine be-fore refueling. Fuel is inflamma-ble and explosive under certainconditions. Always work in a wellventilated area. Do not smoke orallow open flames or sparks inthe vicinity. Never top off the fueltank and leave watercraft in thesun. As temperature increases,fuel expands and might overflow.Always wipe off any fuel spillagefrom the watercraft.

- CAUTION

Never experiment with other fu-els or fuel ratios. Never use fuelcontaining more than 10% alco-hol, (ethanol or methanol). Theuse of non-recommended fuel canresult in watercraft performancedeterioration and damage to crit-ical parts in the fuel system andengine components.

Use BOMBARDIER-ROTAX FormulaXP-S synthetic injection oil (or theequivalent synthetic oil).This fully synthetic oil will provide out-standing lubrication and cleanliness,less friction and wear for greater en-gine performance and durability.

Oil Injection SystemThis watercraft features an oil injec-tion system which does not requiremanual fuel/oil mixing.A sufficient amount of injection oilshould be maintained in the tank.NOTE: Always carry a 1 L of injectionoil.

- CAUTION

Never use 4-cycle petroleum orsynthetic motor oil and never mixthese with outboard motor oil.Do not use NMMA TC-W, TC-W2or TC-W3 outboard motor oils orother ashless type 2-cycle oil.Avoid mixing different brands ofAPI TC oil as resulting chemicalreaction may cause severe en-gine damage.

- CAUTION

The 947 engine and the 787 RFIengine requires the use of BOM-BARDIER-ROTAX Formula XP-Ssynthetic injection oil (or theequivalent synthetic oil).

- CAUTION

Always maintain a sufficientamount of injection oil in the oiltank. Check and refill every timeyou refuel. Do not overfill. If theengine runs out of oil, severe en-gine damage will occur. If the oiltank is found almost empty, aircan enter in the system and itmust be bled. Immediately referto an authorized Sea-Doo dealerto have the oil injection system in-spected.

BREAK-IN PERIOD

EngineWith Bombardier-Rotax® watercraftengines, a break-in period is requiredbefore operating the engine at fullthrottle. Engine manufacturer recom-mendation is about 10 operating hours.During this period, maximum throttleshould not exceed 3/4, however, briefacceleration and speed variations con-tribute to a good break-in. Continuedwide open throttle accelerations, pro-longed cruising speeds and overload-ing the engine are detrimental duringthe break-in period.To assure additional protection duringthe initial engine break-in, BOMBAR-DIER-ROTAX injection oil should beadded in the fuel tank for the first fullfuel tank filling only.

To add injection oil in the fuel tank, pro-ceed as follows:Fill fuel tank with approximately 15 li-ters (4 gal) of gasoline; then, add therequired quantity of injection oil in thefuel tank.Fill up fuel tank with gasoline. Do notoverfill.

10-Hour InspectionIt is highly recommended that afterthe first 10 hours of operation, the wa-tercraft be checked by an authorizeddealer. This inspection will also pro-vide the opportunity to discuss the un-answered questions you may have en-countered during the first hours ofoperation.

Ensure the jetpump nozzle pivots easily while han-dlebar is turned.Check throttle lever ONCE for free andsmooth operation. It must return to itsinitial position immediately after it isreleased.

Reverse System(if applicable)Check reverse gate operation for freemovement. With the shift lever in for-ward position, the gate should be inupward position. Ensure the reversegate moves easily while shift lever ispulled.

Variable Trim System(if applicable)Push on arrows on VTS button tocheck nozzle movement.NOTE: With the safety lanyard discon-nected, electrical system can be acti-vated for approximately 33 secondsby depressing the engine start/stop but-ton.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Principle of OperationPropulsionThe engine is directly coupled to adrive shaft which, in turn, rotates animpeller. This impeller is accurately ad-justed in a housing where the water isdrawn up from underneath the water-craft. Then the water flows throughthe impeller to a venturi. The venturiaccelerates the water and producesthrust to move the watercraft. De-pressing the throttle lever increasesengine speed and therefore water-craft speed.

Neutral and Reverse(if applicable)Neutral and reverse are obtained bymoving a reverse gate, which deviatesthe thrust of water.To obtain neutral position, pull shift le-ver halfway. The reverse gate will bein the middle position, deviating half ofthe thrust to minimize watercraft move-ment.

Variable Trim System(if applicable)The variable trim system (VTS) chang-es the angle of the jet pump nozzle toprovide the operator with a fast, effec-tive system to compensate for load,thrust, riding position and water condi-tions. Correctly adjusted, it can im-prove handling, reduce porpoising,and position the watercraft at its bestriding angle to attain maximum perfor-mance.When first using the craft, the opera-tor should become familiar with theuse of the variable trim system (VTS)at varying speeds and water condi-tions. A mid-range trim is generallyused when cruising. Experience alonewill dictate the best trim for the condi-tions. During the watercraft break-inperiod, when lower speeds are rec-ommended, it is an excellent opportu-nity to gain familiarity of trim adjust-ment and its effects.When the nozzle is positioned in anupward angle, the water thrust directsthe bow of the watercraft upward.This position is used to optimize highspeed.

When the nozzle is directed down-ward, the bow is forced downwardand enhances the craft turning capa-bilities. As with any watercraft, speedand operator body position and move-ment (body English), will determinethe degree and sharpness of the craftturn. Porpoising can be reduced oreliminated if the nozzle is downwardand speed adjusted proportionately.

Steering

Turning the handlebar pivots the jetpump nozzle which controls the wa-tercraft direction. Turning the handle-bar to the right will turn the watercraftto the right and inversely. The throttlemust be applied to turn the watercraft.

The more the throttle is applied whileturning the handlebar, the sharper theturn will be.Unlike a car, a watercraft needs somethrottle to turn. Practice in a safe areaapplying the throttle and turning awayfrom an imaginary object. This is agood collision avoidance technique.The watercraft behaves differentlywith a passenger and requires greaterskill. The passenger should alwaysgrip the seat strap or grab handle. Re-duce speed and avoid sharp turns.Avoid choppy water conditions whencarrying a passenger.

Boarding from a Dock or in Shallow WaterAs with any craft, getting aboardshould be done carefully.When boarding from a dock, slowlyplace one foot on the watercraft floor-board nearest the dock and, at thesame time, transfer the body weightto the other side in order to balancethe watercraft while holding the han-dlebar. Then, bring the other foot overthe seat and put it on the other floor-board. Push the watercraft away fromthe dock.

Before unloading the watercraft fromthe trailer, it can be started for about10 seconds to verify proper operation.

Cold EngineTurn the fuel valve to ON position.Firmly grip handlebar with your lefthand and place both feet on the floor-board.Fully pull the choke lever with yourright hand and depress the start/stopbutton.

ObstaclesVerify that the path ahead of the wa-tercraft is clear of other craft or obsta-cles. Avoid riding close to swimmers.Check local boating laws for safe oper-ation.

- CAUTION

To avoid starter motor overheat-ing, the cranking period shouldnot exceed 5-10 seconds and arest period should be observedbetween cranking cycles to letthe starter cool down and itsmechanism disengage.

Boarding in Deep Water

Operator AloneSwim to the rear of the watercraft.

Grip the grab handle and pull yourselfupward until your knee can reach theboarding platform then grip the seatstrap.

Bring your feet on the floorboard whilemaintaining balance using the handle-bar (except GT models).

Sit astride the seat.Attach the safety lanyard to the opera-tor’s PFD and snap the cap to theswitch before starting the engine.Start the engine.

Operator with a PassengerThe operator climbs on the watercraftthe same way as explained previously.In choppy water, the passenger, whilein the water, may hold the watercraftto help the operator in climbing aboard.

The passenger then climbs on the wa-tercraft while the operator maintainsbalance by sitting as close as possibleto the console.

Rough/Choppy Water OperationAvoid operation in these conditions. Ifyou must do so, proceed with cautionusing minimum speed.

Crossing WavesReduce speed.Always be prepared to steer and bal-ance as necessary.When crossing wakes, always keep asafe distance from boat ahead.

Stopping/DockingThe watercraft is slowed by waterdrag. The stopping distance will varydepending on the watercraft size, car-rying weight, water condition, windand current.

The operator should familiarize him-self with the stopping distance underdifferent conditions.Release the throttle at a sufficient dis-tance before the expected landing ar-ea, water resistance slows down thewatercraft.Reduce speed when approaching adock then shut off the engine just be-fore coming alongside.On models equiped with neutral/re-verse system, you may change theposition of the shifter to neutral andreverse to perform docking maneu-vers.

POST-OPERATION CARE

General CareRemove the watercraft from the wa-ter every day to prevent marine organ-isms growth.Should any water be present in thehull, unscrew the drain plugs and tiltthe watercraft to the rear in order toallow water to flow out.Wipe up any remaining liquid in the en-gine compartment (bilge, engine, bat-tery, etc.) with clean dry rags (this isparticularly important in salt wateruse).

Additional Care for Foul Water or Salt WaterWhen the watercraft is operated infoul water and particularly in salt wa-ter, additional care must be taken toprotect the watercraft and its compo-nents. Rinse bilge area with fresh wa-ter.

Cooling System Flushing and Engine Internal LubricationFlushing the cooling system withfresh water is essential to neutralizecorroding effects of salt or other chemi-cal products present in water. It willhelp to clean up sand, salt, shells orother particles in water jackets (en-gine, exhaust manifold, tuned pipe)and/or hoses.

Engine lubrication and flushing shouldbe performed when the watercraft isnot expected to be used further thesame day or when the watercraft isstored for any extended time.Proceed as follows:

Clean jet pump by spraying water in itsinlet and outlet and then BOMBAR-DIER LUBE lubricant.

SPX and GTS Models

Remove seat to allow access to cool-ing system.Remove dust cap from fitting spigotand attach coupler hose (P/N 295 500258). Make sure coupler hose is prop-erly locked to fitting spigot.Install a hose pincher on water outlethose.NOTE: This prevents water from di-rectly exiting cooling system.

- CAUTION

SPECIAL PROCEDURES

Engine OverheatingIf the monitoring beeper sounds con-tinuously, stop engine immediately.Perform Jet Pump Water Intake andImpeller Cleaning procedure shownin this section.Flush cooling system, refer to POST-OPERATION CARE.If engine still overheats, refer to an au-thorized Sea-Doo dealer for servicing.

Jet Pump Water Intake and Impeller CleaningWeeds, shells or debris can getcaught on the intake grate, drive shaftand/or impeller. A clogged water in-take may cause troubles such as:1. Cavitation: Engine speed is high

but watercraft moves slowly due toreduced jet thrust, jet pump com-ponents may be damaged.

2. Overheating: Since the jet pumpoperation controls the flow of waterto cool the engine, a clogged intakewill cause the engine to overheatand damage engine internal com-ponents.

A weed clogged area can be cleanedas follows:

In Water CleaningRock the watercraft several timeswhile repeatedly pressing start/stopbutton for short period without start-ing engine. Most of the time, this willresult in letting the weeds fall from theintake area. Start engine and makesure water flows out from bleed out-let(s) and watercraft operates properly.

GTS, GTI, GTX Limited and GTX RFI Models

If the aforementioned method doesnot work, the following can be per-formed:– With engine running, put shift lever

in reverse position and vary throttlequickly several times.

– Repeat procedure if necessary.

On Beach CleaningPlace a cardboard or a carpet besidethe watercraft to prevent scratchingwhen turning the watercraft for clean-ing.

SPX, GS, GTS and GTI Models

Rotate the watercraft counterclock-wise (seen from rear) to its left sidefor cleaning. Rotating watercraft coun-terclockwise eliminates the possibilityof residual water in the tuned pipe en-tering the engine and causing enginedamage.

Always remove safety lanyardcap from switch to prevent acci-dental engine starting beforecleaning the jet pump area.

Capsized WatercraftSPX Model

The watercraft is designed so that if itis turned over, it should not remaincapsized due to its self-righting capa-bility.After roll over, always tip watercraftcounterclockwise (maximum 90°) be-fore restarting engine.

All Models Except SPX

The watercraft is designed so that itshould not turn over easily, due to itslonger and larger dimensions. Alsotwo sponsons mounted on the side ofthe hull assist watercraft stability. If itturns over, it will remain capsized dueto its non self-righting capability.

GS, GTS and GTI Models

To return the watercraft upright, grabthe inlet grate, step on bumper rail anduse your weight to rotate it clockwise(seen from rear).

Submerged WatercraftIf the watercraft is submerged and en-gine is water-flooded, it is strongly rec-ommended that the watercraft be ser-viced by an authorized Sea-Doo dealerimmediately.In the event the engine cannot be ser-viced within a few hours, removespark plug cables and connect themon the grounding device.

Remove spark plugs and dry themwith a clean and dry cloth.Cover spark plug holes with a rag.Crank engine for approximately 10seconds to allow water to escapefrom spark plug openings.

Spray BOMBARDIER LUBE lubricantinto spark plug holes.Crank engine again.Reinstall spark plugs.

Towing the Watercraft in WaterSpecial precautions should be takenwhen towing a Sea-Doo watercraft inwater.Maximum recommended towing speedis 24 km/h (15 MPH).When towing your watercraft in wa-ter, pinch the water supply hosefrom the impeller housing to the en-gine with a large hose pincher (P/N529 030 400) shown in the followingillustration.

This will prevent the cooling systemfrom filling which may lead to waterbeing injected into and filling the ex-haust system. Without the engine run-ning there isn’t any exhaust pressureto carry the water out the exhaust out-let.

Snugly install the hose pincher on thewater supply hose as shown.

Flooded EngineIf the engine does not start and it issuspected to be flooded, proceed asfollows:Remove spark plug cables and con-nect them on the grounding device.

Remove spark plugs and dry them us-ing a rag.Cover spark plug holes with a rag.

All Models Except GTX RFI andGSX RFI

Install the safety lanyard cap on theswitch.Ensure choke lever is completelypushed in.Depress and hold the throttle lever atfull throttle position.Depress the start/stop button to crankthe engine approximately 10 secondsto expell water from engine.Reinstall spark plugs and connect ca-bles.Start engine normally.

GTX RFI and GSX RFI Models

Depress and hold the throttle lever atfull throttle position.Install the safety lanyard cap on theswitch.Depress the start/stop button to crankthe engine approximately 10 seconds.Proceeding in this order, no fuel is in-jected and the accumulated fuel in theengine will be expelled.Reinstall spark plugs and connect ca-bles.Start engine normally without applyingthe throttle.

Throttle and Choke Cable InspectionThrottle CableDepress and release the throttle leverONCE. It must operate smoothly andreturn to its initial position without anyhesitation. Refer to an authorized Sea-Doo dealer if necessary.

Ensure it operates smoothly and with-out any hesitation from fully open tofully closed. When the choke lever isfully pulled, choke must be fully ap-plied. Refer to an authorized Sea-Doodealer if necessary.

Carburetor AdjustmentAll Models Except GSX RFI and GTX RFI

Carburetor adjustment is very impor-tant to allow good engine operationand therefore watercraft perfor-mance. Carburetor adjustment re-quires technical knowledge and expe-rience to have the correct mixturesupplied to the engine. This critical ad-justment must be performed by an au-thorized Sea-Doo dealer once a year ormore often if necessary.

Fuel and Oil FiltersThese filters should be replaced annu-ally by an authorized Sea-Doo dealer.Fuel system pressurization shouldbe conducted at the same time.

Steering AlignmentWhen the handlebar is aimed instraight ahead position, the jet pumpnozzle should be in the same directionallowing the watercraft to run in astraight line.Refer to an authorized Sea-Doo dealerif an adjustment is necessary.

Steering system should be inspectedevery 50 hours by an authorized Sea-Doo dealer.

VTS AdjustmentSPX, GSX Limited, GSX RFI andXP Limited

Push on arrow pointing upward onVTS button until the VTS stops. Thenozzle should be up without interfer-ing with the venturi.

SPX Model

The electrical system is protected with4 fuses.Two 15 A fuses protect the chargingsystem. One fuse is mounted on theMPEM located in the front electricalbox and the other one is in the rearelectrical box. If the battery is regularlydischarged, check fuses.A 5 A fuse protects the MPEM, acces-sories and controls. The fuse ismounted on the MPEM located in thefront electrical box. General Inspection and CareInspectionCheck engine compartment for anydamage and fuel/oil injection systemsfor leaks. Ensure all hose clamps areproperly secured and no hose iscracked, kinked or presenting any oth-er damage.

Inspect muffler, battery and fuel/oiltank fastening devices. Check electri-cal connections for corrosion andtightness.Inspect hull and jet pump water intakegrate for damage. Replace or havedamaged parts repaired. It is recom-mended that an authorized Sea-doodealer annually inspect the hull condi-tion.

CareTwice a year, the bilge should becleaned with hot water and detergentor bilge cleaner to remove any possi-ble fuel/oil/electrolyte deposits andmildew.Occasionally, wash the body with wa-ter and soap (only use mild detergent).Remove any marine organisms fromengine and/or hull. Apply non-abrasivewax such as silicone wax.

If any gasoline leak or odor isfound, do not start the engine.Have the watercraft serviced byan authorized Sea-Doo dealer im-mediately.

TRANSPORTATION, STORAGEAND PRE-SEASON PREPARATION

Transportation

Tie the watercraft to both bow andstern (front/rear) eyelets so that it isfirmly retained on the trailer. Use addi-tional tie-downs if necessary.

Ensure seat and storage cover areproperly latched.

XP Limited

Ensure engine cover is properlylatched.

All Models

A SEA-DOO cover should protect thewatercraft, particularly before drivingon dirt roads, to prevent dirt entrythrough the air intake opening(s).Observe trailering safety precautions.

StorageIt is recommended that the watercraftbe serviced by an authorized Sea-Doodealer for storage but the followingoperations can be performed by youwith a minimum of tools.

Engine Draining

All Models Except GSX RFI andGTX RFI

Check engine drain hose (lowest hoseof engine). Make sure there is no sandor other particles in it and that it is notobstructed so that water can leave theengine. Clean hose and fitting as nec-essary.

◆ WARNING

Always turn the fuel valve to OFFposition when transporting ordocking the watercraft.

- CAUTION

Do not route ropes or tie-downsover the seat as they could pro-duce permanent damage. Wrapropes or tie-downs with rags orsimilar protectors where they cantouch the watercraft body.

Do not run the engine during thestorage period.

Disconnect the water supply hoseused to cool the magneto. It featuresa quick connect fitting. Press bothtabs and pull fitting in order to discon-nect hose.This hose is located at the bottom ofthe magneto cover beside the enginesupport.

Cooling System Flushing and Engine Internal LubricationRefer to procedure in POST-OPERATIONCARE.

Anticorrosion TreatmentWipe off any residual water in the en-gine compartment.Spray BOMBARDIER LUBE lubricantover metallic components in enginecompartment.Lubricate the throttle cable with BOM-BARDIER LUBE lubricant.The front seat should be partially leftopened during storage. This will avoidengine compartment condensationand possible corrosion.

Additional Recommended ProtectionIn cool regions (where freezing pointmay be encountered), cooling systemshould be filled with an equal part ofwater and antifreeze solution.

Always use ethylene glycol antifreezecontaining corrosion inhibitors specifi-cally recommended for aluminum en-gines.

SPX and GTS Models

Most of the antifreeze will drain outwhen removing the hose pincher(s).Use a container to recover it. DIS-POSE OF ANTIFREEZE AS PER YOURLOCAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS.NOTE: Although antifreeze will mainlydrain out, the antifreeze has mixed withthe water that was possibly trapped inthe cylinder water jackets and thus pre-venting freezing problems.On GSX RFI AND GTX RFI models, theantifreeze will mix with water trappedin the crankcase heat exchanger andin the magneto cooling circuit.

At pre-season preparation, drain theremaining antifreeze from cooling sys-tem prior using the watercraft.The following steps should be per-formed to provide the watercraft en-hanced protection.Lubricate the throttle cable with BOM-BARDIER LUBE lubricant.Clean the bilge with hot water and de-tergent or with bilge cleaner. Rinsethoroughly. Lift front end of watercraftto completely drain bilge. If any repairsare needed to body or to the hull con-tact your dealer. For paint touch up tomechanical parts use Bombardierspray paint. For small gelcoat repairs,a Bombardier repair kit is available.See ACCESSORIES AND SERVICEPRODUCTS section. Replace dam-aged labels/decals.NOTE: Bilge cleaning should be doneprior to anticorrosion treatment.Wash the body with soap and watersolution (only use mild detergent).Rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Re-move marine organisms from the hull.Apply a good quality marine wax.

If the watercraft is to be stored out-side, cover it with an opaque tarpaulinto prevent sun rays and grime from af-fecting the plastic components, wa-tercraft finish as well as preventingdust accumulation.

The following chart is provided to help in diagnosing the probable source of sim-ple troubles. You may be able to solve many of these problems rather quickly, butothers may require the skills of a mechanical technician. In such cases, consultan authorized Sea-Doo dealer for servicing.

Engine Will Not Start
