About the Sinkhole nstitute:The Florida Sinkhole Research nstitute was founded in 1982 at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. It has made aninternational mpact by establishingcommunications betweengeologistsand engineerson thepractical mplications of karst errane.Due toseverebudget restrictions, he University of Central Florida was forced to close the Institute in 1992.

The Sinkhole Institute was a unique organization said the former Director, Dr. Barry F.Beck, It was founded because he citizens, ocalgovemments,andprofessionalsofthe stateof Florida had a need or its expertise.That needhasnot disappeared.Unfortunately, the nstitutehas.
