that one had r e a l l y contributed something of benefit tothe Club during seventeen y e a r s of membership. Since

that iraugural meeting ~n January 4, :958 and more

especially si~ce becom~ng a com~itteeman in March: 1963does one realis~ the amou~t of v01un~ary service that is

put into an or;anisa~ic~ such es the Surf Life Savin£Movement in order that tne public May swim in safetyon ~atrolled Aus~ralian beaches. During my membership

at \;jye, it 1",2S been my privilege to serve under

conscientious leaders and during my seven terms asPresident of the Club to haVE been assisted by mBny

f2i~hful ccrnmitteG members. Two years ago, ~ consideredres igning from c ornrn,tteeship bu t again v o Lu n t .ee r 'ed ro r

re-election in the hope -::hatnew nembers would be forth-

coming or that past ~embers wc~ld see their way clearto take office.

This year for health reasons and ~ressure of business,

I feel reluctantly co~pelled to completely resign fromcommitteeship of the Club.

I wish the Club well and hope that it will prosperunder new leadership.

I wish to thank all the Committee Members who helpeG me

to perform my cuties during my first ,year as the Club's

Secretary. I especial] y vxu ld Li.ke to thank S;:.ii-:2, vrho

gave m e the c~nfidence to do the j o b .

As most of you know, we hele an e~traordinary meeting

during the past season. The meeting was called to decidethe future of ::heClub D Thos.e uho attended the rrieet.no

decided the Club needed ~ fresh start.

Th~se members who were not pulling their weight in ~he

Club were asked ~o appeal to che Committee S~ tha~ theyc o u l d ren-ain members of the Club. This .ces1l1ted in the

removal of quite a few members. This left cnly the samediehards \..o have been pulling the Club throuch se asor

after season.

In a bid to rebuild a strong core of keen members, nina

prospective ~ecruits were invited down to ~ ye for aweeke~d. They were given ~ pretty good idea what the

Club \10/25all about, end they 211 seemed pretty interested.

1..e hope to see t!":-em in the star t; of the new season", If

we can o~~anise a few more of these weekends, I am su=ethat the Club membership would once again be strong.

The Club bOEt should be ready ~o hit the water this

se2S0~. Thanks mcst go to the same diehards who put

many hOLes of h a r d work into the boat to make this

p o s s L b l e , ~ t e hope to have 2 senior a n a j u n i o r c r e w

competing in carnivals in the new season.

Gre~ter care of Club equipment must be shown in the future.

Careless use cf Club and private gear resulted in quite a

lot of damaae duriro the season. New gear has been pur-

chased ~or fhe com!~g season and if carelessness is shown

to\Jards this or any 0ther gear, severe res trictions tovrar-d s

the use of g~2r will b~ imposed.

rescue for the benefit of the public, which brought

about a stronger awareness or the Club and its procedures

functions, and were re-payed for their time and effort

by almost ril a~tendance by members.

A lot of new Gear has been bought by the Club this year

but it will not be used by members if it is misused and

damaged as happened to gear la5t year.

Thanks go to the number of guys ~hat haVE worked

consistently ~n ~he s3nd~ng and re-va~nishing of theboat in Melbourne. - I wender how marry members willwan t; to use tne beat when ,- is again at i ye - and

yet who were not prep3red ~c get thei~ hands airtyw~~~ the cle3ningD

I would very sincerely like to thank Paul Shannon

Se~son, especially in March when I was aw~y on myhoneymoon.

problem ~ar all social organisers to get the ~essage

across to members that their sup~~rt, co-operation andsuggestions are the backbone of the Club 2S a wh~le.

The social year :974/1975 kLcked off w.i th the ~st .,.1I1uc:.l

l~ye River Handicap ~hich was held at ~atts River ~eserve.

After intense organisation this event~ which was verypoorly supported, was held in perfect weather and those

who did attend thoroughly enjoyed themselves and assured

us they would be back for next yearTs eventu

A number of bar-b-ques were held dur i.nq the season \rhich

included tne V~rking See which was held early in November~974o This was also poorly attendLd. ~he New Years 8ve

party held in the Bunkhouse grounds ~as most e~couragin9

in the support we received from campers and younger

members of the Club. Many thanks to Harry and ~dith,Jeaver of the ','yeR:"ver Hot.e l fer the2_r support in the

organisation of this function. ~nd also many thanks tothose Ladies at the Club for their help in the preparation

of the sweets and savo~ries donated by them. At ~he.1I.nnualL.!!:l Dinner, VJe sew twenty in attendance. This

number incl~ded past members, two cf which were Club

captai 115 who spox e 0:1 ',!hat the reaI bus iness of Sur:7"Life Saving is all about, an inspiration to the younger

guys in the Club. ie hope ~his particular function

returns to the popu1arity it once en joyed. "'e onceagain thank Harry and Edith for their supporto

The Club ended the year with the !nnual Dinner Dance

helG 3t the Brighton Savoy. Amidst promises of

attendance and suppcrt for the ball, organisers battled

~o get ~umbers to make the night financially possible.Fortunately, thanks to lOYdl Club ~upporters of this

function, W~ just managed to balance accounts, and for

those who did not attend , they missed a "bloody good

night".
