    S u m m a r yRecent investigations on physiological effects of pre- and neo-natai exposureto an ELF rotating magnetic field on rats show that considerable changes inthe behavior and in thyroid and testicle weights are to be found. The possiblereaction mechanism is discussed in detail, but there is no final concept.The present experiments, especially those concerned with the conditionedresponses of rats that had been exposed during various phases of pre- and neo-natal development, characterize the general findings to date and problems to besolved. A possible influence of ELF fields on the growth of the nervous systemsuggests interesting consequences in the development of the organism far fromthe surface of the earth.

    ZusammenfassungPhysiologische Wirkung elektromagnetischer W ellen bei t iefen Frequenzen.Historischer Uberblick und gegenw~irtiger Stand der Forschung. Teil II1Die neuesten Forschungen fiber den pr~i- und perinatalen Einflut~ yon ELF-Wellen anf Ratten bzw. Rattenembrios zeigen, daf~ eine erhebliche Anderungdes Verhaltens und eine starke Ver~inderung des Driisengewichtes, insbesonderedes der Schilddrfise, die Folge sind. Denkbare Wirkungsmechanismen der ELF-Wellen werden ausf/ihrlich diskutiert, ohne dat~ endgiiltige Vorstellungen gewon-hen werden k6nnen.Die noch laufenden Experimente, insbesondere Untersuchungen bedingter Re-flexe yon Ratten, die w/ihrend verschiedener Phasen der Embryonalentwicklungausgesetzt waren, sollen noch offenstehende Fragen kl~iren. Ein m6glicher Ein-flut~ der ELF-Wellen auf das Nervenwachstum wiirde weitreichende Konsequen-zen auf die Entwicklung yon Organismen fern yon der Erdoberfl~iche haben.
