Poor CoordinationThe Egyptian military discouraged individual initiative

from most of their lower officers, requiring them to strictly

adhere to orders no matter the local tactical situation.

During the battle of Um Katef Israeli paratroops and tanks

fought a tough battle and broke through the positions of

the Egyptian 2nd Infantry Division, all the while a nearby

force of almost 100 Egyptian tanks failed to assist

because they were not order to do so.

Afer an Egyptian Inantry or MechanizedInantry Battalion rolls a success to receivereserves, they and their opponent roll one diceor each platoon coming rom reserve. I theopponent rolls higher than the Egyptian player, then the opponent choses what platoon theEgyptian player brings on. I the Egyptian playerrolls higher or the roll is a tie the Egyptian playerbrings on the platoon o their choice.

Tis roll also occurs when a platoon comes onrom reserve automatically, such as on turnthree or afer.

Ties to the RegimeMost officers in the Egyptian Military were appointed

because of their political connections rather than their

experience or abilities. During the campaign Egyptian

officers were often accused of abandoning their troops in

the retreat to the Suez Canal.

Egyptian CIC teams do not provide a re-roll orailed motivation or moral checks to riendlyteams within command range.

Hen and ChicksPoor training, leadership and tactics hindered Egyptian

tankers from ever taking the tactical initiative from the

Israelis. The tankers found it difficult to keep up with the

rapidly changing situations they found themselves in.

All Egyptian vehicles must maintain commanddistance as i they were inantry teams.(ex. A platoon o trained Egyptian tanks mustremain within 4 o one another.)

I a Platoon Command team moves in theMovement Step, all o the ank teams in itscompany must move as well. I the PlatoonCommand team does not move, only ankteams that started the Movement Step Out oCommand may move.

Any ank team that moves adds +1 to the scorerequired to hit when shooting with its main gun.

Fortiy the SinaiEgyptian forces had prepared formidable defenses in the

Sinai Peninsula to defeat an Israeli armored attack.

Egyptian Inantry and Gun teams may re-rollailed attempts to Dig-In.

Pre Planned Fire MissionsEgyptian artillery had great difficulty engaging rapidly

    moving Israeli units.

Egyptian artillery may roll to hit as i they weretrained when repeating a bombardment, in allother situations they are rated as conscript.

Egypt was amply supplied with Soviet equipment afer

relations between Egypt ant the United States cooled in the

1950s. Much o that equipment was tanks and especially the

venerable -34/85. Some were lost in 1956 during the SuezCrisis, but most were still in service in 1967. Te -54/55

had begun to replace the -34/85 as the main battle tank o

the Egyptian army but the 4th Armored Division was still

equipped with a company in 1967. However most were in tank

    regiments that supported the inantry.

Te officers in charge o the Egyptian ank orces had been

trained in Soviet Armored Doctrine and were confident in

their ability to destroy the IDF.

Egypt began to receive the modern Soviet -54 and -55

tanks ollowing the 1956 Suez War. Te Soviet Union supplied

this excellent tank to replace the many -34/85s which

were destroyed by Israel during the conflict. Te -54/55s

armor was substantially better than the -34/85 or the Israeli

Shermans and its 100mm tank gun gave it tremendous

firepower. Te Egyptian tankers were confident that this tank

would serve them well in any war with Israel.

    ARSENAL SPECIAL RULES

Inra Red SearchlightsThis advanced form of night fighting technology was useful for the Egyptian T-55s during the battle around Bir Lahfan in 1967. The IDF

    had nothing to match it.

A platoon with Inrared Searchlights rolls two dice and takes the best result when rolling on the Night Visibilityable (see page 272 o the rulebook). Vehicles with Inrared Searchlights do not need to re-roll Bogging Checks whencrossing Rough errain at Night.

anks using Inrared Searchlights do not count as Concealed by either night or terrain when shot at by other tanksequipped with Inrared Searchlights, even i the other tanks do not use their searchlights.

StabilizersA stabilizer is a device fitted to a tanks gun that keeps it level so the gunner can stay on target while moving.

A moving tank fitted with a stabilizer can fire a main gun with ROF 2 or more at its ull ROF, but adds a penalty o+1 to the score to hit. I the main gun has ROF 1, it ignores the normal +1 penalty to hit when moving instead (but

still retains the +1 to hit or the Hen and Chicks special rule).

Horizon to HorizonArtillery in the Sinai was able to operate at ranges of up to 15 miles from the frontlines. The batteries were not directly engaged until they

were overran by assaulting enemy forces.

When deployed in Horizon to Horizon, only the Observer team appears deployed on table deploying as anIndependent team. You still use the normal Spotting and Ranging In rules when firing your artillery. Your Artilleryis assumed to have the range and field o fire to hit any target on the table, and aligns the Artillery emplate parallelto the table edges as i the artillery was firing rom the closest short table edge.

As artillery units Deployed in Horizon to Horizon are not on the table, they do not count when working out whichplatoons to Deploy on table and which to hold in Reserves, nor as being on the table or Company Morale Checks.Simply ignore any artillery companies held in Horizon to Horizon when calculating whether your battalion is belowhal strength.

Battalion Commanders can act as spotting teams or artillery batteries deployed in Horizon to Horizon as theywould or other artillery, and still suffer a +1 the hit when ranging in.

    FORTIFICATIONS

Fortified Platoonsrench lines can be attached to any Platoon entirely made up o Inantry teams and/or Man-packed Gun teams in acompany with Field Fortifications.

A Company or Platoon with rench lines attached is a Fortified Platoon, see page 155.

Fortified Platoons place their ortifications at the same time as other ortifications beore objectives are placed.Mark a spot on the table (use a die or counter) as the center o each Fortified Platoons position. All o the platoonsFortifications must be placed entirely within 12/30cm o the marked point, but may not be placed 6/15cm o anyFortification rom another Fortified Platoon or o either side table edge.

Te Company HQ o a Fortified Company may deploy as part o another Fortified Platoon, amalgamating theirFortification as a single platoon. I it does not do this, it deploys in its own ortifications which are placed as i it werea Fortified Platoon on its own.

When the teams o a Fortified Platoon are Deployed, they must be placed in the rench Lines, Gun Pits, and ank

Pits that come with their platoon. Only teams rom the Fortified Platoon may be deployed in its Entrenchments. Ithere are insufficient Entrenchments or the platoon, any teams that do not fit in the Entrenchments may not be usedin the game.

I a Fortified Platoon elects not to place any o its Fortifications, it is no longer a Fortified Platoon. However, such aplatoon never benefits rom a Prepared Positions special rule as they have not had time to dig alternative positions.Fortified Platoons cannot be deployed in Ambush or Reserves o any sort unless it elects not to deploy any o itsFortifications.

Gun PitsA Gun Position can be attached to any Platoon containing Gun teams in a company with Field Fortifications.

A Company or Platoon with Gun Pits attached is a Fortified Platoon, see page 155.

Fortified CompanyA Fortified Company will always be the deender against a ank, Mechanized, o Inantry Company. When two Fortified Companies ace off, they automatically play the No Mans Land mission (see www.flameowar.com) rather than normal missions.

FortificationsEntrenchments must be placed in your Deployment Area. Obstacles may be placed in either your Deployment Areaor in No Mans Land. Entrenchments cannot be placed in a stream, river, swamp, lake, or other water eature.

You may choose to not place any or all o your Fortifications in a game. I you do this the Fortifications are not usedduring the game.

Remove any unoccupied Gun Pits and ank Pits rom the table at the end o deployment beore the game begins.
