Firebombing of Tokyo (3/45): 100,000 deadBy 6/45, 40% of the area of Japan’s six

largest cities (Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Osaka, Yokohama and Kawasaki) had been leveled.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen because they hadn’t been extensively fire-bombed yet.

Hiroshima: 140,000 dead by the end of the year

Nagasaki: 80,000 dead by the end of the year
