Our Lord Jesus Commands us as His disci-
ples to love one another as He loved us.
The measure of His love is the Cross. We
are invited and commanded as His disciples
to love with the same self-giving and self-
surrendering love He manifested on the
Cross for us. Indeed, we can only love Him
and others if we first know that we are
loved by Him. His love is the gift of The Holy
Spirit which empowers and inspires us to
love as we are loved by Him. St. Paul in 1
Corinthians 13 spells out what love means.
In addition to other things love is patient,
kind, forgiving, love hopes for all things.
Since the Holy Spirit is the gift of love we
receive from the Lord Jesus we should walk
in the Spirit in order to manifest the fruit of
the Spirit: Love, joy, patient, kindness, faith-
fulness, goodness and self control,
(Galatians 5).
Our Lord also reminds us, as in the Gospel
today that if we love Him we will keep His
commandments. In other words, we will try
