Headmistress’ Award Well done to Elana Manson in our Lower Kindergarten who received a Headmistress’ Award for her excellent drawing of her family. Didn’t she do well? Many congratulations Elana!

War Time Story Ethan and Savannah Roos brought in their Great-Grandad’s medals and photograph. Ethan spoke to his class about his Great Grandad’s life. Peter Edward Carlsson was a tank driver in the 5th Royal Tank Regiment, part of the 7th Armoured Division. They fought in North Africa where they were given the name ‘The Desert Rats’. They were later to fight on through Italy and then Normandy following the D Day landings. Towards the end of the war Great-Grandad was seriously wounded outside Hamburg. He was returned to England where he spent six months in hospital recovering. Thank you to both Ethan and Savannah for telling us this lovely story and bringing in the wonderful medals and photograph to show us.

FOCHS Update

This has already been a busy half term for FOCHS activities, and what fun it has been – the children had an absolutely brilliant time at the disco (and the army of volunteers (thank you all!) who helped out certainly enjoyed watching them throw some shapes on the dance floor). The first Tuck Shop of the year was also a great success. We look forward to holding this every Friday during the winter months in the Studio after school so make sure you keep coming along with those 50ps and £1 coins! The Fireworks Display at Oakland School was also a great family night out and both children and adults alike had a fantastic time. Again, thank you to all the volunteers who gave up your precious time to make it such a success. Coming up on Friday 28 November is the Christmas Fayre which will be taking place in the Hall and on the drop-off walkway into school between 2pm to 4.30pm. If you or anyone you know would like a stall please get in touch with FOCHS via the box or through the office. On Monday 1 December a very busy day is planned, with the Mummy and Daddy shop taking place as well as a visit from a very special festive guest! To ensure we have plenty of presents available for the children to choose from at the Mummy and Daddy shop, we are holding a ‘wrapping morning’ in the Tea Time Club room on Tuesday 25 November after drop-off, and would welcome as many volunteers as we can fit in to help with wrapping and sorting the presents. Please come along! We would also greatly appreciate your help on the 1 December to help to run the shop. Later that week we will all be enjoying seeing the children perform in their Christmas shows, and we are very excited about seeing and hearing the new staging in action. We have no doubt that the curtaining, lighting and sound system will enhance the experience for everyone. On Wednesday 3 December all the children will be entertained with Christmas shows organised by FOCHS – Bangers and Mash will be coming into the school to perform for the younger children (Elliott’s Christmas Adventure for the Early Years and Jack and the Beanstalk for the Infants), whilst the Juniors will be embarking on an exciting trip to the West End to see Roald Dahl’s Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre. If you would like to be involved in any way we can be contacted via the post box in Reception or via email to [email protected] . We would love to hear from you!
