7. Format of Play – The IMC daily format will be comprised of an 18-hole individual stroke play (Skins) morning round

followed by an afternoon 3-4 person team scramble. Scoring will be recorded using the free golf app 18Birdies during

each round. Additionally, a back-up manual scorecard will be maintained by each group. This free app provides

live tournament leaderboards scoring/tracking for groups and tournaments, a GPS range finder, and all sorts of statistical

tracking! Practice round Tournament Code is 5346. The remaining round codes will be shared by the event

coordinator. The code for the remaining rounds will be provided on a daily basis. Be on the lookout for an invitation

from the IMC event coordinator.

8. Tournament Registration and Awards Packages – Participation in the 2018 IMC REQUIRES a $100 registration

fee. This registration automatically enters each player into the Skins/CP and Scramble purses. Any prize purses or side-

bets other than those listed in this information packet are not governed by the IMC Board of Governors and have no

bearing on the overall tournament purses. Participation in non-IMC sanctioned purses or bets are the sole-

responsibilities of those individual participants. An interactive prize distribution model will be emailed along with

the information packet which will advise of potential payouts. Awards package distributions are broken down

in percentages of 60/40 (Skins/CPs), and 55/30/15 (Scramble).

package of $3,900. For the A.M. Skins, the total purse is divided by the total number of skins won outright. Payouts

will occur at the group dinner each night.

v1.2 http://ironmanclassic.weebly.com

9. Method of Play and Scoring – The IMC utilizes a modified stroke play in which golfers compete against the entire

field based on their individual scores. Recognition of the golfer with the lowest 3-day individual cumulative score is

crowned the 2018 IMC Champion.

In the event of a tie for first place, a winner is determined using the lowest score on the most difficult holes as identified

by the course handicap designation. If the competitors scored the same on the aforementioned hole, then this process

will continue by advancing through the remaining most difficult holes until a sole winner is identified.

To maintain pace of play and to account for the various skill levels, there are NO Out of Bounds (See General

Rules, section 13.5), and all scores will max at double par. Each group is responsible for identifying two official

scorers (18Birdies and manual scorecard) for their group. Scoring will be recorded using the 18Birdies app during

each round. Additionally, a back-up manual scorecard will be maintained by each group.

Scoring will be annotated on the card as Bogey (+1), Par (-), Birdie (-1), etc. At the conclusion of each round, turn

scorecards in to any member of the BOG.

10. Show Time – All players must arrive and check-in at the course NLT 30-minutes prior to the tee time.

11. Skins/Closest to the Pin (CP) – During the morning (a.m.) rounds, winners are identified at the conclusion of the round

by calculating the total number of holes (skins) won outright by a score of par or better. Skins are awarded based

solely on an individual player scoring better than all other players by at least one stroke on each hole. Payouts are

calculated by dividing the a.m. round daily prize purse (determined by the total number of golfers registering on Day

1) by the number of skins won outright. If no skins are earned during the morning round(s), the monies allocated for

each round will carry over to the following morning round(s). If no skins are earned over the three morning rounds, the

skins monies are refunded to each golfer.

Closest to the Pin is played on all par 3s during the morning rounds only (see Section 13.4 for CP rules).

12. Side Bets (IMC Sanctioned) - Side Bet participation is optional. Entry fees are ‘a la carte’ as indicated below.

Round Low Gross

(LG) Putts**

Long Drive

(LD*)

A.M. Rounds (Thurs-Sat) $5/round $5/round $10/round *Two LD Holes (See scorecards in Section 17)

**Note: Individuals participating in the Putts side bet competition, a 3-putt assessment is recorded for any

player who has to “pick up” due to scoring double par. If a player earns an honest double par and two putts

in the process, then the player will record two putts, not three.

On a par 4 Player X is on the green in six and two putts for a score of ‘8’. In this case, Player X will record

two putts. On the same par 4 Player Y is on the fringe in seven and does not hole-out on the next shot,

Player Y will record a score of ‘8’ (double par) on the hole and subsequently be assessed a three for putts.

10

v1.2 http://ironmanclassic.weebly.com

13. General Rules

13.1 All rounds are played from the ORANGE tees with the exception of senior golfer’s (age 60 and over) who

have the option of teeing off from the WHITE tees during the morning rounds only.

IMPORTANT: Whichever tee box the senior golfer elects to tee off from on the first morning round, he

MUST play from that same color tee box for the remainder of the morning tournament rounds.

13.2 No mulligans.

13.3 Maximum score of double par.

13.4 Putting: No “gimme” putts given for eagles, birdies, or pars. If participating in the Putts side bet: 1)

Follow the guidelines outlined in Section 12, and 2) Once a player’s ball comes to rest on the green and

the player begins the act of putting, all strokes thereafter are considered putts until the hole is completed.

Players must not anchor the club, either directly or by use of an anchor point. USGA Rule 14-1b prohibits

strokes made with the club or a hand gripping the club held directly against the player’s body or with a

forearm held against the body to establish an anchor point that indirectly anchors the club.

13.5 Point of Entry: IMC defined as the last point where the ball crossed playable golf course – before

becoming unplayable. When this occurs, the player must take a one-stroke penalty, and ‘drop’ two-

club lengths from the point of entry, no closer to the hole. If the player and the opponents disagree

substantially where to spot the point of entry, it can be a compromised spot agreed upon by both sides.

Make a decision and GO!

13.6 Unplayable Lie: A player at any time can declare his ball unplayable and apply the guidelines in 13.5.

13.7 Red or Yellow Stakes: A ball may be played inside a red or yellow-staked hazard, however, the club nor

the golfers hand may be grounded. Additionally, the player may not remove any loose impediments lying

in or touching the hazard. If a golfer violates any of the aforementioned conditions, a two-stroke penalty

must be assessed. If a player chooses not to play in the hazard, they must drop on the same line that the

ball entered the hazard, no closer to the hole, and take a 1-stroke penalty. Refer to rule 13.5, Point of Entry.

13.8 Unmarked Tree Line: Refer to rule 13.5, Point of Entry.

13.9 Mark and identify your ball at the beginning of play or as needed for replacement balls (e.g. dots, initials,

etc.).

13.10 USGA rules will govern at all times EXCEPT where a local or IMC rules take precedence. The ball will

be played down and as it lies at all times unless the course dictates “Cart Path Only” or as determined by

the BOG; then players can LIFT, CLEAN, AND PLACE the ball in your own fairway only.

13.11 Improved Lie Rule: If a players’ ball is in their fairway and lies in ground which may be considered

under repair, even if it is not properly marked or in an “unfair” lie in a bunker (i.e., footprints not properly

removed by golfers), a drop may be taken at the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole without penalty.

The aforementioned drop can only be taken after notifying and receiving permission from a team member.

A bunkered ball must be dropped in the bunker.

13.12 The designated DROP AREAS, if available, WILL be used on the par 3 holes only. The ball can PLACED

within the drop circle. If not, please observe the OB stakes and apply rules as applicable.

13.13 Players are responsible for ensuring they annotate their name on the CP marker should their ball be the

closest to the pin. If a player leaves a hole without annotating their name, they are ineligible for the CP

award.

14. Scramble Rules

14.1 All rounds are played from the ORANGE tees by all golfers regardless of age.

14.2 No mulligans.

14.3 A scramble means that all team members tee off on each hole and then decide which tee shot they like

the best and mark the spot with a tee or ball marker.

14.4 The other team members pick up their balls and place them within one club length (no closer to the

hole) of the marked spot. When spotting the ball, the lie cannot be improved, e.g., a ball in the

bunker cannot be spotted outside the bunker, or a ball in the rough cannot be spotted in the

fairway. Each team member then hits their next shot from the chosen spot of the prior shot. If the ball

chosen to play is out of bounds, the Point of Entry rule (Section 13.5) is applied. This procedure is

followed on every shot for the remainder of the hole, including putts. The ball should be marked on

the putting green also.

14.6 Putts need to be made within 3 inches of the marked spot (no closer to the hole). For pace of play

purposes, if putting for birdie and the first player gets it close, putt out and let everyone else continue

to try to make the birdie putt.

14.7 Bogey is your friend! The max score on any hole is bogey.

14.8 Each team must use at least one of each team members tee shots per nine holes (minimum two tee

shots per player for each 18-hole round).

14.9 As applicable, teams with only three golfers are allowed to utilize a ‘second golfer’ to substitute for

not having a fourth player. Substitution must occur on a PER HOLE basis, meaning the same player

will play the hole from the tee shot through hole completion.

Team consists of players A, B, & C starting on hole #1. Player A will act as the second golfer

from tee to green for hole 1, followed by Player B playing second golfer for hole #2, and

concluding with Player C will serve as second golfer for hole #3. This same rotation will

continue for the entire round.

14.10 In the event of a tie, a tie breaker is determined utilizing a scorecard playoff. The scorecard playoff

will start by comparing the scores of teams on the hardest handicap holes and descend to the easiest

handicap holes.

For example, start at the hardest handicap hole (number 1 on the scorecard) and move to the

second hardest handicap hole (number 2) until the tie is broken. This process will be repeated

to settle any remaining tie-breaker situations. In the event that a scorecard playoff ends in a

tie, monies will be pooled together and split amongst all remaining tie breaker teams.

15. Inclement Weather – In the event of inclement weather resulting in a partial or complete cancellation of play, the

guidelines in this section will be followed.

15.1 AM Skins/CP Rounds:

15.1.1 Thursday and Friday: If the ENTIRE round is not completed by ALL participants, skins monies

are rolled over to the next morning round.

15.1.2 Saturday Round: If the ENTIRE round is not completed by ALL participants, the allocated skins

purse, as well as any carry-over purses from previous rounds are refunded to the golfers.

15.2 Side Bets:

15.2.1 Low Gross (LG) and Putts: If the ENTIRE round is not completed by ALL participants, monies for

LG and Putts will be returned to each participant.

15.2.2 Long Drive (LD)/Closest to the Pin (CP): Since there are multiple LD/CP opportunities, payouts

will occur based on the level of completion by ALL participants for that particular event. For example,

if only one LD is completed by ALL participants, then half of the purse will be paid to the golfer with

the longest drive; likewise, for CP completion and payouts. The remaining LD/CP monies will be

returned to the event participants. If ALL participants have played through all LD/CP holes, payouts

will occur regardless of completion of the entire 18-hole round.

15.3 PM Scramble Rounds:

15.3.1 Thursday: Scores from the last hole completed by ALL groups will be recorded. The remaining holes

will be scored using the score of the team member with the lowest score from the corresponding

hole(s) of the next morning round; this score will be used for the team score. If the following morning

round is unable to be completed to the point of obtaining the scores needed to identify a winner, the

monies for that particular scramble round will be refunded.

15.3.2 Friday: Same rules as Thursday round.

16. Golf Etiquette

16.1 Rake the sand bunkers after completing your shot.

16.2 Leave the putting green as soon as you have holed out.

16.3 Do not proceed with play until the players in front of you are out of range.

16.4 Balls may be cleaned on the green, and ball marks repaired prior to putting. You may not repair spike

marks prior to putting.
