Our Lady of the Snows October 16th and 17th, 2021
“What do you wish me to do for you?” Whether we realize it, this is
a question God is always asking. It’s an important question because
the answer we provide will reveal a great deal about where our
hearts lie. Our requests of God can often appear very noble and
altruistic. They consist of requests for healing for someone in
need of prayers, successful resolution of a personal conflict,
assistance in overcoming a disease and myriad other desires for
both ourselves and others. We are especially concerned about those
we love and can easily find ourselves bringing their struggles to
God for a hearing in our prayer. Is that really all that prayer is
about? The woman in today’s Gospel, having been put in her place by
Jesus, was only looking out for the wellbeing of her sons. She was
doing what mothers do, protecting and securing the liveli- hood of
her children. But she was sadly mistaken, her request was not
granted. We all make this same misguided mistake from time to time.
The goal of prayer is not to con- vince God of the worthiness of
our agenda or to gain a hear- ing. Sometimes we believe that the
more we multiply our prayers or discover the right combination of
supplications that we will receive more of God’s attention. That’s
not how it works. Even though God desires to hear, know, and be an
intimate part of what is on our minds, it goes much deeper. What we
need from God is a relationship. It’s a relation- ship that guides
and immerses us in the very stuff of life and in the direction of
the Gospel. This relationship sees God’s kingdom and agenda, not
our own, as what is most impor- tant. It builds the strength of
character necessary to bring God’s Gospel into a world that may not
receive it with open arms. It may cause us discomfort and
suffering. We are asked to heroically journey with God through
suffering, hardship, ridicule, and even death! Ultimately, our
desire from God must become our desire for God. It is only when
this happens that the powerful words “thy will be done” will be
found with sincerity and humility on our lips. Whatever God wishes
becomes what we wish as we see this glorious union of wills. Our
humble lives will then become powerful witnesses, and what happens
to us in God’s eternal kingdom the result of his mercy. We become
true servants and find ourselves discovering God’s defini- tion of
success. That definition has nothing at all to do with status,
income, or privilege.

INTRODUCING A NEW FAMILY PROJECT FOR OUR PARISH BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE
FOR ALL SOULS DAY: In the past we have asked people to record the
names of their departed loved ones in our Parish Book of
Remembrance in the church entry. This year we are asking families
and individuals to decorate their own pages with the names and pic-
tures of their departed loved ones whom they wish to remember. We
will place these personalized pages in special binders to be
displayed at the altar. Please pick up your blank page in the
church entry, and bring it home to decorate with your family. And
don’t be afraid to get creative!
RE ROUNDTABLE FOR PARENTS: Parents who are interested in
providing comprehensive religious education for their children and
youth are invited to come to a discussion and informational meeting
on Tuesday, October 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the church. We will be
proposing some new and exciting ideas on how to engage our children
and middle and high school youth of the valley with the teaching of
Jesus and the Church. If you have any questions contact Cara
Yuras at 208-309-3608.

World Mission Sunday October 24,2021
On World Mission Day, which we celebrate each year on the
penultimate Sunday of October, we recall with gratitude all those
men and women who by their testimony of life help us to renew our
baptismal commitment to be generous and joyful apostles of the
Gospel. Let us remember especially all those who resolutely set
out, leaving home and family behind, to bring the Gospel to all
those places and people athirst for its saving message. [Quote from
the message of Pope Francis for the celebration of World Mission
Sunday 2021.] Once we experience the power of God’s love, and
recognize His fatherly presence in our personal and community life,
we cannot help but proclaim and share what we have seen and heard….
“Go therefore to the highways and byways, and invite everyone you
find” (Mt 22:9). No one is excluded, no one need feel distant or
removed from this compassionate love…. As Christians, we cannot
keep the Lord to ourselves: the Church’s evangelizing mission finds
outward fulfillment in the transformation of our world and in the
care of creation…. The theme of this year’s World Mission (Sun)day
– “We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard” (Acts
4:20), is a summons to each of us to “own” and to bring to others
what we bear in our hearts. You will find envelopes on the table as
you come into the church. Your gift is tax deductible and checks
can be made out to “Society for the Propagation of the
Faith”.
