Provide width ‘W’ by measuring inside the window frame reveal. Take measurements at both top and bottom of the reveal and provide the smallest measurement for width ‘W’. For drop ‘D’ measure inside the window frame reveal on both the left and right sides. Use the smallest measurement for drop ‘D’.

For reveal mounted screens or blinds, due to measuring & manufacturing tolerances, it is recommended to subtract 4mm from width ‘W’ and subtract 4mm from drop ‘D’ to ensure the assembly will fit within the reveal easily. Silicon extrusions are recommended for fitment around the assembly to prevent insect or light ingress.

If hood protrudes from the reveal side, hood end caps will be required. You will need to deduct a further 4mm from your measurements.

revea l mount ing

Measuring / information & considerations

measur ing cons idera t ions• The ScreenAway™ system is suitable for most standard windows including louvre windows.

• Screens for sliding windows are recommended to be fitted on the outside of the window with handle facing inwards. The outside of the window provides four (4) even surfaces to attach to and screen width need only be as wide as the opening portion of the window. Select ‘reverse’ mounting option when ordering.

• When mounting to rendered surface be careful not to screw into mortar.

• When measuring reveal mounted screens on awning windows, it is recommended to consider installation

in the same position as the original static screen. Consider where the natural bottom position of the screen will sit (often above the handle winding mechanism) as it may sit higher than the bottom of the reveal.

• Be aware of any window handles or other obstructions that may impact the normal operation of the screen/blind.

• Consider protrusion of screen/blind handle from bottom rail when selecting appropriate handle for the screen. Options are standard or button handles. Standard handles protrude 20mm from the frame where-as button handles only protrude 10mm from the frame.

• It is not recommended to mount ScreenAway™ to tiled window reveals.

• When we receive your order we will assume that you have taken into consideration the recommended deductions for both width and drop and this will be the finished size.

TIP / Remember for reveal mounting to deduct 3mm from the width, and subtract 2mm from the drop. Total reveal deductions including hood end caps is 7mm.

For face mounted screens, provide width ‘W’, by measuring from one edge of the window architrave to the other. For drop ‘D’, measure from top to bottom edges of the window architrave. Side caps are available.

Installation / instructions & considerations

TIP / For pre-assembly and installation, you will need a star driver.

TIP / All ScreenAway™ blind pulley assemblies are pre-lubricated in our factory with white lithium grease. It is recommended however that installers have a can of white lithium grease on hand in case more is required as this aids smooth operation and reduces any operational noise.

Your blinds will be freighted to you semi-assembled, not fully assembled. See page 11 to scan the QR code which will take you to videos on how to assemble your blinds and screens for installation. For further instructions please contact ScreenAway™ by calling 1800 738 722 or emailing [email protected].

pre-assembly ins t ruc t ions

top corner blocks x 2bot tom corner blocks x 2

• Remove ScreenAway™ assembly from packaging, taking care to remove top and side caps first.

• Orient the assembly right way up and place in position centrally in the reveal or on the face of the window. If necessary, clamp the assembly in place.

• For reveal mounting, tighten all four (4) mounting screws until the screw head only just engages against the frame.

• For face mounted assemblies it is recommended to mount the assembly by drilling through the top and bottom corner blocks. For ease of access to the top corner block the material can be wound to the bottom or the roller tube removed. - If removing the material roller tube, pull the bottom rail down to half-way then pull out the top roller tube by depressing the plastic tabs on each side. - Keep the tension in the Kevlar cords by allowing the tube assembly to hang down next to the bottom rail. - Ensure mounting screw points in the corner blocks are within the areas marked out in red below and that the head of the screw protrudes minimally.

ins t ruc t ions• Test the assembly by pulling the bottom rail down by the handle all the way to the bottom and then all the way back to the top.

• Attach the side caps by engaging the side cap clips against the side frame. Note that the bottom clips are located directly above the bottom corner blocks. Note also that side caps are slotted to enable easier installation.

• For large hood, attach the hood by sliding the rear edge into the recess in the top frame, and rotating the hood down into position. A gentle press of the hood will allow it to clip into place at each end.

• For small hood, attach the hood by applying a bead of silicon along the ledge underneath the hood and then slide the rear edge in to the recess in the top frame. Push the hood as far rearwards in to the recess as possible to ensure a good fit.

Installation / instructions & considerations (continued...)

• It is recommended to mount frames in the standard orientation with hood at the top.

• For reveal mounted assemblies, the side frames will have holes punched in them to assist with installation.

• Side mounting screws should not retain the frame hard up against the reveal; this type of retention can pull the frame out of square.

• For very tall assemblies, if operation of the assembly causes the side frames to bow in slightly it may cause increased friction between the side frames and the bottom rail and therefore it may be necessary to add an additional screw in each side. To determine an appropriate position for this third screw, ensure the assembly is correctly tensioned

cons idera t ions

and ensure third screw is not placed in a position to foul the moving shuttle.

• Although the frame is manufactured square, it is important to ensure that upon installation the assembly remains square. An out-of-square assembly may demonstrate increased friction, and therefore reduced operability.

• For outdoor mounted assemblies it is recommended for side cap attachment that a bead of silicon is applied along the length of the ridge underneath the cap.

• For outdoor mounted large hood assemblies, it is recommended that a bead of silicon is applied along the length of the ridge underneath the cap for increased security.

• Normal operating condition requires the operator to lift the bottom rail from the handle. All testing should therefore be completed by operating the assembly by the handle.

• Each assembly is lubricated and tested prior to packaging, so only minimal adjustment should be required once installed. If there is a significant failure of the assembly to move, check first for damage from transportation, and secondly that the frame is mounted square.

• The primary way to improve operability is to ensure all moving friction-bearing parts have adequate approved lubrication applied.

• The secondary way to improve operability is to increase the tension of the spring by adjusting the position of the middle or bottom anchor wheels. Note that the maximum stretched length of each spring is 220mm before permanent damage to the properties of the spring occurs.

• Increasing spring tension should be completed by adjusting the position of the bottom rail to the maximum spring stretched length (near the top or bottom of the bottom rail stroke) to ensure accidental spring damage does not occur.

• If the bottom rail does not travel up and down smoothly despite the above suggestions, the following can be attempted:

- Check to ensure the routing of the Kevlar cord is correct, especially that the cord has not become unseated from any pulley wheels and wedged between any pulley wheel and its housing. Also, check that the Kevlar has not come unwound from the roller tube pulleys.

- Wind the material assembly by hand from the top roller tube and look out for any points where the material or the bottom rail stick.

- If nothing shows up, pull the material assembly by the handle back to the mid-point half way down the side frames then move the bottom rail left to right to test that there is adequate movement (around 1mm side to side movement). If there is not sufficient movement, carefully remove the bottom rail from its side guide channels and tap each cross rail end-cap with a hammer to ensure the end caps are home. Reinstall in to the side guide channel and retest for adequate side to side movement and operability.

- If there remains a tight fit and little to no side to side movement of the bottom rail, undo the grub screws between the top corner blocks and the top frame and create a 0.5mm gap each side. Retighten grub screws and retest for adequate side to side movement and operability.

• If distinctly inconsistent force is required to move the bottom rail up and down, remove all tension from the springs by undoing the middle anchor wheel and connect a second spring on each side in series. Readjust the position of the middle and bottom anchor wheels to achieve appropriate tension. The second spring allows for the same tension as a single spring, however the variation of tension across the stroke is reduced. Note that all ScreenAway™ systems are built with appropriate quantity of springs and tested prior to packaging, so look for other signs of issues prior to adding springs.

• If the top roller tube is removed from the frame assembly for any reason, it will be necessary to carefully prepare to reinstall to the frame assembly:

- Hand-wind the material to the top roller tube, ensuring it is wound tightly. Clamp the material in place so it cannot unwind.

- Fully unwind the Kevlar rope from the top roller tube pulleys, then rewind 5 turns back on to each pulley, ensuring winding is made in the opposite direction to the winding of the fabric.

- Insert top roller tube back in to the frame assembly and remove the clamp.
