An evening with Rtn Madhura Chatrapathy

Waste Management with Ms. Vani Murthy

A t the Fifteenth Weekly Meeting,

called to order by Rtn Mahesh Parikh on13 Oct. 2014 at Rotary House of Service, the Guest Speaker for the evening was Ms. Vani Murthy, Bangalore's renowned waste

management expert and composting enthusiast. She gave practical easy-to-follow advice on how to go about composting right in the balcony or terrace. Composting in the backyard is the best way to handle food waste. With a few tubs, maybe some worms and minimal space in the house, one can convert the daily dustbin contents to clean, rich, organic manure and grow greens - flowers and food.

Each bag that is thrown out of our homes everyday contains around 50-60% organic

waste and around 25-30% of recyclable waste. If these are separated and put to use by composting and recycling, one can reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills everyday. This simple act saves natural resources like trees, minerals and habitats.

Rtn. Lt. Col.Lester Herbert, was inducted as a new member of our Club by PP Rtn Suresh Hari. Rtn. Lester was proposed by Rt. Pradeep Lal. Rotary, Bangalore Indiranagar welcomes them.

Telecom professional, who

served for 20 years in the Indian

Army Corps of Signals and

thereafter joined the Corporate

Telecom Sector, where he worked

for 15 years at the Head of the

Technical function in India and

abroad, with companies like BPL

Mobile, Airtel, Reliance Infocom,

Tata Tele Services, Huawei

Telecom and Globacom Nigeria.

He presently runs his own

Telecom Consultancy Ace3Tel.

He is married to Indira Flavia

Herbert and they have two

children, a daughter Kavitha and

a son, Rohan.
