For those of you who attended the 2011 Corporate Partner and Suiteholder Golf outing, we hope you had a great time. Luckily the rain decided to hold off this year and thankfully all participants coped with the cold weather, even if it meant unpacking your winter gear just a little early. Sponsors, suiteholders, players, coaches, staff and a few on-the- glass ticket holders were present again this year. Each foursome was paired with a Wild Celebrity including coach Mike Yeo, players Mikko Koivu, Matt Cullen, Dany Heatley, and Devin Setoguchi and Wild personalities Tom Reid and Mike Greenlay. Throughout the day, golfers had the opportunity to win prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin, the longest putt or a trip for a hole-in-one. Unfortunately, no one was able to win a trip to Europe sponsored by AAA since a hole-in-one was not achieved but there were sev- eral great attempts, including one that was almost six inches away! A special thanks to Subway for providing guests with a variety of sandwich choices for lunch and to An- heuser-Busch for the generous selection of beer throughout the day. We would also like to take the time to thank Troy Burne Golf Course, Best Buy, AAA, Coca-Cola, Innovative Office Solutions, Kincaid’s, To- tal Luxury Limo, Treasure Island Resort and Casino, and Trafalgor for their hole sponsorships and generous dona- tions. Without these sponsors and all the participants the Annual Corporate Partner and Suiteholder Golf Tournament would not be what it is today.

Opening Night VIP Party

This years 2011 Opening Night VIP Party was a huge success. The after game reception allowed all guests to let loose and

celebrate the season kick-off and the WILD WIN in a different way!

Those who attended were able to enjoy a wide variety of appetizers, try some exciting signature

Wild drinks, show some moves on the dance floor and even enjoy a posing session in the photo booth.

However, the most exciting part of

the evening was enjoying the Opening Night 4-2 victory against

the Columbus Blue Jackets!

Tape two

As the most important instrument in all of hockeydom, the stick has been doctored and babied for decades. With the coming of composite sticks, the doctoring has slowed, but players still insist on taping their sticks in a specific manner.

The March On every team, there’s an order to which players leave the dressing room for the ice; whether it’s the captain first, the starting goalie last or a veteran tapping each player with his stick, it happens the same way every game.

Gearing Up

Every player has his own rhyme and reason for the seemingly random practice. Do it just so or start all over.

One Final Stop

The legendary Ken Dryden would never leave the net during warmup until he had made one final save. But playing for the powerhouse Canadiens in the 1970s meant that was not always easy. Larry Robinson picked up on it and took to making sure Dryden had an easy one to stop if the goalie was having problems. Dryden figured Robinson out and began to work even harder to make that final save before Robinson lobbed an easy one his way.

OK, But It’ll Cost You a Buck

At the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, Canada won men’s hockey gold for the first time since 1952. Buried at the center ice a Cana-dian one-dollar coin. Burying a ‘loonie’ at center ice for international competitions has since become a superstition, albeit one other countries are not overly enthralled with.

Conversing with iron

Goalies are weird. Period. Patrick Roy is one of the weirdest in recent memory. He had a number of superstitions, including carrying on running conversations with every goalie’s best on-ice friends, the goal posts.

Grow Baby, Grow

It’s believed the Islanders began the playoff beard superstition during their Stanley Cup run in the 1980s. It worked, too. They won four Cups in four years, the last in 1983.

Don’t Touch That

There’s only one trophy teams want. To touch another en route to the Cup is anathema until (gasp!) this year. We’ll know soon if this superstition is proven false.

October Charity of the Month: Cullen’s Children’s Foundation

Mission Statement: To provide financial resources to organizations that support children's healthcare needs, with an emphasis on cancer.

Charity Description: The Cullen Children's Foundation, or Cully's Kids, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial resources to organizations that support children’s healthcare needs founded by Matt & Bridget Cullen in 2003. Each summer, a Celebrity Weekend is held in the Fargo-Moorhead area which includes a Celebrity Golf Tournament, Si-lent Auction & Social, and Kid's Picnic. This year, the Cully's Kids Celebrity Weekend made over $430,000, surpassing this year’s goal and setting a new record. Over the last seven years, the Cullen Children’s Foundation has raised more than $2.3 million to benefit Cully’s Kids and has created an endowment fund of more than $1 million to ensure that the Foundation can continue to grant money into the future. The kids who benefit – affectionately named Cully’s Kids – live with special care needs due to affects of cancer or other disease. Grants are awarded by the Cullen Children’s Founda-tion to local Fargo-Moorhead organizations that support these children’s health needs while positively improving their quality of life.
