Candidate’s Name: Ports and Maritime Organization Seafarer's Examination and Certification Directorate Exams Code: CMSS - 891 Subject : Ship stability Date : 1389.02.29 Rank : Chief Mate (GT3000) Time Allowed : 2.5 Hrs (Pass mark: 60) Q.1)-A vessel about to complete loading in a summer zone is expected to enter a winter zone after steaming from the loading port for 10 days. On passage, the fuel consumption is expected to be 30 tons per day. The ship is presently floating in water of density 1.013 tons/m3 at a draft of 9.0m. Summer draft = 9.475 m FWA = 203 mm TPC = 30 tons/cm (The sea passage is assumed to be through Sea water.) Find ; a) The maximum permissible draft on completion of loading. (14M) b) The amount of cargo which the vessel can load. (6M) Q.2) a) Calculate the value of BM , prior and after bilging for a vessel with following information; Length =120m, Breadth=18m, Mean draft=8m An amidships side tank 12m in length and lying between two longitudinal bulkheads 4.0m and 7.0m from the shipside is bilged. (15M) b) Discuss the result and state whether there would be any changes to KG, GM and KM. (5M) Q.3)- A ship displacing 16130 t and 143m in length is grounded on an isolated rock, without damage to her hull. The drafts then observed to be; forward=5.90 m and aft=9.30 m. Based on the provided hydrostatic particulars, calculate following; a) The upthrust from the rock. (10M) b) The position with respect to AP, where the grounding occurred.(Longitudinal moment prior grounding was 1130040 m-t). (10M) Q.4)-A ship has displacement 28000 t, KG 8.6m, KM 8.736m , BM 4.7m. A heavy lift of 250t at kg 2.8m on the centerline is lifted by the ship’s crane with head 18m above the keel and swung 4.5m to port. a) Find the resultant list. (15M ) b) Briefly discuss the safety aspects of the operation as regards the stability of the vessel and the remedial actions which should have been taken. (5M ) Q.5)- With reference to SOLAS requirements state the damaged stability criteria to be satisfied by passenger ships after damage. (20M)
