    A. Installer Qualifications: Submit proof that the installer of the lightning protectionsystem has had suitable and adequate experience installing other lightningprotection systems, and is capable of installing the system specified herein.

    B. Materials and workmanship shall comply with applicable requirements of SASO,IEC, NFPA 780, UL, ANSI and LPI Codes and Standards.

    PART 2 - PRODUCTS

    2.1 MATERIAL:

    A. Lightning protection system shall be air terminal type and shall conform to theapplicable requirements of NFPA 780 and the Underwriters' Laboratoriesinstallation requirement for "Masters Labels' System", UL 96A.

    B. Air Terminals shall be of 98% conductivity solid copper tapered rod extending notless than 600 mm above the object they protect, and shall have a proper basesupport for the surface on which they are used and shall be securely anchored tothat surface. Air terminals shall be provided on perimeter of roof as shown on thedrawings. The mounting of air terminals shall be as shown on drawings or approvedby the Engineer.

    C. Fasteners shall be approved nut and bolt type, substantial in construction, notsubject to breakage, and shall be of the same material as the conductor or of suchnature that there will be no serious tendency toward electrolytic corrosion in thepresence of moisture because of contact between the different parts. Fastenersshall be spaced not more than 1m apart on all conductors.

    D. Conductors: All main size conductors shall be lightning conductor cable consistingof 36 strands #12 AWG copper wire. Secondary conductors for connecting to lowvent pipes, roof exhausts, roof drains, etc., shall be copper conductor cableconsisting of 34 strands of #14 AWG wire.

    E. Roof Conductors coursed along the building perimeter surfaces shall be securedwith copper fasteners. The downlead conductors shall be concealed and routeddown in cavity wall as shown on the drawings, or embedded in concrete walls.

    F. Splices: Conductor splices shall be as few as practicable but where required shallbe made using only bolt tension fittings. No compression fittings will be permitted.

    G. Down conductor shall terminate at a ground rod which is part of the commonbuilding grid. Ground rods shall be 19 x 3000 mm copper-cladded steel, unlessindicated otherwise on the drawings. Ground rods shall comply with requirements ofSection 16452 - GROUNDING.

    A. Install lightning protection system as indicated, in accordance with equipmentmanufacturer's written instructions, and in compliance with UL 96A, LPI-175 andNFPA 780.

    B. Air Terminals: Air terminals shall be base-mounted as shown on the drawings and inaccordance with the manufacturer's instructions and approved shop drawings.

    C. Roof conductors shall be installed and coursed along the perimeter parapet wall onthe roof and shall be placed as inconspicuous as possible with no bends along theconductor angled at less than 90 degrees and a radius shall not be less than 200mm.

    D. Bonding or Metallic Bodies: All metal parts of the building or equipment exposed tolightning strike or within 1800 mm of the lightning protection grid shall be bonded tothe grid by approved type of bolted connectors.

    3.2 TEST:

    A. Test the ground resistance to earth by standard methods and conform to the groundresistance requirements specified in Section 16452 - GROUNDING. Test result andcertificate shall be submitted to the Engineer.
