StreetScape Plan

• Integration with New Regent St (Romanesque) - Retail, walking, cycling, tram & service vehicles

• Provides some green space use of rare indigenous spp / taonga of the plains, dunes & riverbeds

• Springs running through river stone paving - revealed through hard ground surface glass

Wider City Context

• * Shows structure & ideal strong links of suburban villages to central city (black Circles)

• * In particular a much stronger/faster connection between Canterbury University & Riccarton commercial/service/food/

* Entertainment sector & to central city

• * Shows optimum configuration of habitat patches & linkages that feed into urban forest ( Light green Nodes)

• * Highlights traditional Maori sites of significance – examples of mahinga kai, urupa, (brown nodes) & key trails/routes from Te Waihora to Kaiapoi, to Rapaki & across plains to West Coast (Ti symbol)

• Enticing people to city centre through sports, events, entertainment.

• Car-free centre; street calming (Green)

• Extended tram system to new Hub in South west corner. ( Based around AMI stadium etc.

– Insulates & attenuates storm water which is trained & visible thru site, reflecting older waterways & symbolizing Maori traditional connection with water;

• Offices with common services - including roof top gardens, showers for cycle commuters

• 160 Gloucester Street

• Blank walls of adjacent buildings decorated with living wall attachments & art works – an aerial rendering of Port Hills profile to south suspended between buildings & featuring Te Heru - o – Kahukura and Tauhinu Korokio, etc

• By implementing developments similar to this design the city will be vibrant and sustainable.
