Welcome back to Term 4 and it was great to see everyone at school without the restrictions of Alert Level 2. The Senior Drama “In the Lonely Hour” was performed on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and congratulations to Mr Harrison and the senior students for an excellent performance. The drama tackles the issue of bullying and the devastating effects it can have on individuals and society. Strong messages were given that the victims of bullying are people like us and that it is never OK to accept or tolerate bullying in any shape or form. The presentation of the play had been delayed from earlier in the year, as had Pink Shirt Day which was celebrated today. Pink Shirt Day encourages all of us to take a stand against bullying. It is good to see a number of property projects underway and improving the environment for students. The bike cage has been rebuilt to make it more secure for bicycles that are brought to school and new chairs are more comfortable and lift the appearance of the Hall.

Kia ora! I have just finished as a senior leader at Onehunga High School. Prior to that I was a PLD facilitator with the University of Auckland. I have also been a Head of Mathematics and I have taught all levels of Mathematics during my career. I look forward to my new role as a Deputy Principal at Rosehill College.

Dreaming BigDuring the holidays seven Year 13 Rosehill College girls had the opportunity to attend Dreaming Big held in Auckland. Those attending were Lucy Knott, Rababgeet Ghuman, Lia Capper, Olivia Skelling, Ellie Harper, Aoife Parsons and Hira Qadeer.

Dreaming Big is a day set up by the On Being Bold team for Year 13 High School girls. On Being Bold is a team of successful woman who dedicate some time from their busy lives to share stories about how they achieved and became successful in their careers. This year the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, and ex Prime Minister, Sir John Key, both attended and spoke with our students.

Mon 19 - Thu 22 October, 5pm - 7.30pmWe are almost at the end of the year and to help students who are still deciding their study plans for 2021, your MIT Schools and Community Liaison team will be hosting MIT Talk sessions across a wide range of areas of study from Monday 19 - Thursday 22 October between 5.00pm - 7.30pm.

This is an opportunity for students and their families to talk with our lecturers in specific areas of study and ask any questions they may have about the programme and studying here at MIT.

Tongan Language Week - Books for TongaTo celebrate Tongan Language Week this year, the Pasifika Leaders decided to raise money to support the charitable organisation “Books4Tonga”. This charity works with communities in Tonga to help build and resource libraries. Their vision is to see village libraries run by Tongans, operating throughout Tonga to enhance the reading, writing, and speaking of English. To raise money we were lucky enough to be supported by a number of individuals and organisations who kindly donated items to be raffled off as part of this initiative. We would like

to thank Counties Rugby Union who donated a signed 2020 Rugby Jersey. Junior Fa, a top 10 World Ranked Heavyweight Boxer who donated two signed boxing gloves. Creative Kitchens and Sup2 Clothing Brand who each donated a $100 Sup2 Clothing Voucher. We would also like to thank the teachers and students

who helped by selling and buying tickets. Through this raffle we managed to raise over $700 for the charity.

Firstly, a big thank you to all our students for supporting the No Phones rule in the library. It has created a wonderful vibe for all our senior students who are preparing for exams.

We have a variety of board games available in the Library for you to use as an alternative and we will be offering arts and crafts as well so watch this space! If you have a game or craft suggestion, please let the library team know.

Summer Reading 2020-21

We are excited to announce that we will be running Summer Reading again this year. The Summer Reading programme is designed to keep students reading over summer to avoid the “summer slide”. There is no cost for summer reading. Students who wish to participate must collect a permission slip from the library and have this signed by a parent or guardian. Students may request up to 10 titles and these can be put aside from today.

Well done to the coaches of these teams most of whom are Year 13 students. Congratulations

Congratulations to our 1st XI Boys Hockey team who came away from the 2020 Upper North Island Secondary School Festival, Division B with a silver medal. The Rosehill 1st XI Hockey Boys attended the Upper North Island Festival during the school holidays. Having missed out on their tournament that was due to be played in September it was awesome for the team to get back onto the turf and celebrate a difficult year and send off the year 13 players in a positive fashion. The team was led incredibly well on and off the turf all year by Joel Stewart who would guide the boys to their best tournament finish in 13 years when they managed to put a difficult loss in the opening match behind them to upset strong hockey schools in Rangitoto, Pakuranga and Northcote on route to the final of the tournament. Unfortunately for the team they were unable to finish the week off in style as the counter attack of Orewa College and their stoic defence would frustrate the team in the final. Despite the result the team had an outstanding week. The side said goodbye to four year 13 students (Cameron Ross, Joel Stewart, Jarred Patel and Hayden Hartley) who have gone beyond for this team and were integral in implementing the outstanding team culture that this side has. I want to thank Blake Kayes McDowall and Viv Jamieson for giving up a considerable amount of time over the past five years to ensure that the side is supported and prepared for every match. The team wouldn’t be able to run without incredible volunteers like yourselves who give up so much more than just your time.
