Adam “JiJ” Paul We at North Nova Education Centre have suffered a loss
due to the sudden death of one of our students Adam JiJ
Paul on March 4th, 2016. Adam leaves behind many
friends among the students and staff of NNEC. He could
always be seen talking with students, sharing a story or
playing his guitar. He was a student who made his pres-
ence known throughout the school by sharing his sense of
humour and love of music.
Thank you to all who made donations to our school’s
Music Department in memory of Adam.

2016 Europe Trip Forty two students and seven chaperones gathered at Stanfield International Airport (Halifax) on the night of Friday, March 11, to begin their fifteen day, four country odyssey that had been anticipated since October of 2014.
The first stop was London, England. High-lights of the two day tour of Europe’s largest city included the British Museum, National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, Houses of Parlia-ment, Piccadilly Circus, London Tower, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, and a flight on the London Eye. They also travelled west to Windor to visit Windsor Castle and the surround-ing grounds.
Next, the Eurostar Train took them under the English Channel to our second destination - Paris, France. Highlights of the three days in the “City of Light” included Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe, Sacre-Coeur, Centre George Pompidou, Louvre Mu-seum (featuring Mona Lisa), Champs-Elysses, and tour of the top of the Eiffel Tower.
They then boarded our bus for their next destination – Lucerne, Swit-zerland. Their high mountain hotel location provided spec-tacular views of the Alpine peaks that sur-rounded them. Highlights of Lucerne includ-ed Mount Rigi, The Lion Monu-ment, and the Kapellbrucke
covered bridge.
From Switzerland, they travelled to Flor-ence, Italy. While in the “Birthplace of the Renaissance” they visited the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and the Ponte Vec-
chio Bridge.
Following their time in Switzerland, they board-ed a bus to Pisa, where they walked to the Field of Miracles. Highlights of this visit included tours of the Cathedral and Baptistry, and free time around the
Leaning Tower.
They were back on the bus the next morning for a drive south to their final destination – Rome, Italy. Along the way, they stopped at Assisi to visit the Basilica of St. Francis and explore the medieval town. Highlights of
their two days in the Eternal City (Rome) included Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna, Capi-toline Hill, the Forum, Colosse-um, Trevi Foun-tain, Pantheon and an evening opera/dinner
(featuring the Canadian opera singer Leonar-do).
They bussed over to Vatican City, the world’s smallest country, on their final day to tour the Vatican Museum. Highlights included the vast collection of art and sculptures, Sistine Chap-el, St Peter’s Basilica (outside only) and Piazza San Pietro.
They celebrated their last dinner in Rome with a tribute to our wonderful guide, Gwen, who showed them their destinations and kept everyone safe along the way.
The group started their trek home to Canada in the early hours of Friday, March 25.
We acknowledge that the world political cli-mate is rapidly changing, and feel fortunate to have been able to experience these destina-tions during times of growing uncertainty and unrest. Their travel company, EF Tours, kept everyone continually updated with regard to
security concerns. All of the guides and bus drivers consulted with their main guide throughout each day to ensure the group was not going into unsafe areas. Everyone felt safe and comfortable at each stop along the way.
On behalf of all of the students and chaper-ones, Mr. Pelerine would like to thank every-one who helped the group experience this once in a lifetime journey.
Finally, our tour director, Gwen, sends his heartfelt thanks to everyone for making his experi-ence a memora-ble one. This was his fifth tour with Gryphons!
Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 are reminded of the destination of the next trip, which will take place over the 2017 March Break – Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai, China. Registration has been ongoing for this tour already. For more information see Mr. Pelerine.
