YOUTH AND FAMILY PROGRAMSYOUTHPrep Strings Summer Camp–Full DayKids join us for a week of making music at CWU. Students participate in small chamber ensembles of three-to-eight musicians. Rehearsals will be lead by a faculty coach and students will perform a special concert Friday afternoon. The hard work of the Prep Summer Strings musicians will be showcased on Saturday, August 16 at 11:30 a.m. in the CWU Music Building Concert Hall. Call 509-963-1504. Geographic Information Systems for K-12 EducationThis five-day workshop will define and explain the importance of GIS, introduce GIS data structures and sources, give participants experience editing and creating data, cover basic cartographic concepts as applied to GIS, and discuss how GIS can be used for different subjects and grade levels. As part of the class, participants will develop a project they can use with their classes.

Instructor: Jennifer Hackett holds an MS in Resource Management from CWU. She has taught several GIS courses for CWU and has an extensive career in resource management and spatial analysis. She currently operates her own mapping and consulting business.

Coming Soon! Youth Mental Health First AidA groundbreaking public education program that helps the public identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This course is an eight-hour course that uses role playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect persons to professional, peer, social, and self-help care. This program also teaches about the risk factors and warning signs of specific illnesses like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and addictions.
