P5 Cultural Immersion Overseas Learning Journey (OLJ) to Shanghai/Suzhou

15th – 19th November 2015

About the OLJ

A total of 14 girls and 3 teachers embarked a journey to China to learn more about the immense history of China.

Our girls participated enthusiastically in a myriad of hands-on activities and sight-seeing tours of cultural and historical sights in two cities, Shanghai and Suzhou.

We appreciated the hospitality and warmth extended to our girls by the the school leaders and the pupil buddies of Suzhou Industrial Park Kuatang Experimental Primary School, our twinning school. Our girls were engaged in interesting activities which were planned specially for them , enabling them to learnt about aspects of Chinese culture in a fun and meaningful way.

It is heartening to see our girls making new friends and demonstrating virtues care to one another, independence and self-reliance in taking care of themselves and their peers throughout the journey.

Our Reflections

Faye Teo

My overseas learning journey was exciting and at the same time,

educational. On 15 November, we had to gather at the airport early in the morning. From there, we set off on our 5 ½ hours flight to Shanghai. During the five-day trip, we went to many places which included the silk factory, Tiger Hill, Shanghai Science

and Technology Museum, The Humble Administrator’s Garden and many more. During the trip, I learnt a lot

and made many new friends. Through the visit, I realised the importance of displaying the virtues of tolerance,

friendliness and gratefulness to anyone I met. Lastly, I would like to thank Mdm Pek, Mdm Chau and Mrs Ng for taking care of us throughout the trip and making it a memorable

one.

The P5 OLJ to Shanghai and Suzhou was an extremely memorable one. I

learned tons of new information during the trip. I also had a chance to bond

with my school mates and teachers. It was a brand new experience for me to travel overseas without my parents. I

had practised the virtue of friendliness towards my peers and teachers. My buddy from Kuatang Primary School

was very warm and I felt happy to have her helping me during my time there. I

have also learnt to appreciate Singapore more, having the first-hand experience in China which is different

from Singapore, especially the environmental aspects. I am grateful that our country is clean and green.

However, I still enjoyed every minute of my time in China. I hope to have the opportunity to go on another trip like

this in the future.

During the trip, we visited the museums which provided us with

educational information. My favourite museum was the Science and Technology Museum and I truly

enjoyed the acrobatic show too. We went to Kuatang Primary School and participated in different types of arts

activities which we do not have in our school. Through the trip, I have

learnt many fun and interesting facts. I have grown closer to my friends and learnt to understand them. It was a truly memorable trip and I hope to have such an opportunity again.
