BURYING THE DEAD

More than a concert, ‘Burying the Dead’ will provide an exciting glimpse into life in Restoration London, through the deathbed testimony of Henry Purcell; written by scriptwriter Clare Norburn. The piece will occupy the borders between a play and a concert as Purcell gives us his deathbed testimony. Purcell will conjure up the two singers and musicians of CERULEO to his bedside. Together they will take the audience on a journey back through Purcell’s memories of theatrical intrigues and into his internal dreamworld, as he confronts imagined key childhood memories of 1666. CERULEO formed in 2014 at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and were delighted to be invited back as Artist Fellows for 2016-17. They have performed both at home and abroad, including concerts as part of the Brighton Early Music Festival, at St John's Smith Square and live on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’. www.ceruleo.co.uk

The CONCERTS IN THE WEST series of MINI-TOURS offers a broad spectrum of CLASSICAL and BAROQUE chamber music.

CONCERTS IN THE WEST was started in 2006 and as with many organisations it has grown in the work that it undertakes and has many plans for the future, particularly in the area of education. We feel that there is an audience for Classical Music of all types, but it has to be nurtured early, even if it takes some years to bring the two together. We are delighted to be working with the Centre for Young Musicians, Taunton this year.

CONCERTS IN THE WEST aims to bring talented young musicians to small venues in the West Country in areas that may not have easy access to music of this quality. Small intensive tours, in Devon, Dorset and Somerset, are arranged for the musicians over a few days, when they have the opportunity to work on new repertoire, or to embed works more fully, ready for major concerts elsewhere.

The enthusiasm and skill of these young people is breathtaking and has come about through many years of study (at least to postgraduate level), dedication and hard work.

The music played at the concerts is enormously varied and gives local audiences a wonderful opportunity to hear both familiar and unusual works for voice and instrument in many combinations.

In addition to buying tickets some of you give CONCERTS IN THE WEST financial help for which we are most grateful. Such help is crucial in keeping the series of tours in existence from year to year.

However, taking a longer term view of CONCERTS IN THE WEST it would be enormously helpful if you would consider leaving the organisation a legacy under your Will. Your solicitor will advise on the wording to be used but it could

be as simple as ‘I give free of tax to Concerts in the West Ltd charity number 1139301 the sum of £ [ ] to be used for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt or treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge’.

Alternatively, a fraction or percentage of residue of your estate could be left to CONCERTS IN THE WEST, the exact wording of which should be as advised by your solicitor to make sure maximum tax advantage is gained in your estate.

I would only add that if you do intend to leave a cash legacy, it would also be very generous of you if the amount could be indexed say to RPI as people frequently leave a reconsideration of their Will for many years at a time.

With many thanks indeed to those who take this step.
