LAUH YATRA: Dandi Se HandiTak150 Years a/Celebrating the Mahatma

The 'Lauhr'atra' Convoy ('the Convoy) will comprise of a team of 25 'Volunteer Cyclists', Eat

Right Mobile Unit, a Canter with 6'x4' LEDwall and sound system, Innova as lead vehicle,

Container fitted to carry cycles, Food Safety on Wheels for food testing, Minibus as Sweep

vehicle. The Crew would include Track & Leg In-charge (FSSAI), Leg In-charge (State),

Track in-charge [Meraki), Leg in-charge (Meraki), Emcee (Meraki), Two officials for food

testing (State), LEDTechnician [Meraki], 5 drivers and 3 helpers. In addition, police/traffic

escort vehicle and ambulance are to be arranged by the State Food Safety Commissioner

with the help of local administration and police. It is desirable that a 'Standby Vehicle' may

also be arranged by State Food Safety Commissioner. Thus, overall, there would be 8

vehicles, 25 cyclists and about 25-member Crew. Event Partner (Meraki)'s key contacts are

Mr.Ramesh Thakur (9820061328) and Ms.Namrata (9619329608).

The Convoy will be flagged off from six different locations on six tracks and cover almost all

States/U'I's as per Route map (Annexure 3) in over 100 days. Each track has four legs with

each leg to be covered in about one month. Each leg would further have 13-15 'Sections' of

40 km to 60 km. The Convoy will make 'stopover' in cities/towns and will also have 'halts'

at places on the way.

Programme

Day '0': Meet & Greet and Handover(this would not apply for Track Flag off locations)

1. The Convoy would be ceremonially received in the afternoon/evening on Day '0". They

~ould hand over batons to thef.l~yv,,&r?~pofy~lunteer Cyclists with photo opportunity .

Inpresence of local media, public representatives, officials and dignitaries in a function

of 30-45 minutes with one or two short speech. The cyclists would also be given

'Certificate of Participation'. An event template would be shared separately.

2. There would be a debriefing session of volunteer cyclists and the new cyclists. New

Cyclists would be handed over bicycles and kit and the earlier cyclists would be sent

back to the previous cityftown in the sweep vehicle.

Day '1'; The Eat Right Day

1. Volunteer cyclists, local dignitaries and at least 80 registered participants (same as

number of people who accompanied Gandhiji in Dandi March) ,would join this walk.

People would assemble at the 'LauhYatra Venue' in the early morning between 6 am

and 8 am and begin PrabhatPheri (,Gandhi Walk') covering about 2 to 4 km in one hour

or so with entire entourage including cyclists, crew and volunteers carrying banners on

Eat Right India and 'Candhiji's views on food and nutrition.

2. After the walk, there will be a short programme of 60-75 minutes at the Lau Yatra

venue. This would begin with 'Vaishnava Jan To' short message from the Hon'ble Prime

Minister, followed by playing of campaign videos on 'Eat Right India', testing for

adulteration in Food Safety on Wheels, quiz competition, physical exercise/rumba

dance, training of frontline workers on 'Eat Right Toolkit'. There may be one or two

short speeches by the dignitaries present. Local media may be invited for the event. An

event template would be shared separately.

3. After the programme at LauhYatra venue, there would be activations at pre-identified

locations in the city. There should ideally be three such activations, one activation in

the forenoon, afternoon and evening respectively. Locations for such activations could

include main market, SabjiMandi, Street Food Hubs etc, The activations would include

playing of videos on ERMUand adulteration tests through FSW,Template for activation

would be shared separately.

Day '2': The Cycling Day(will be Day '0' for next stopover location)

1. There would be a ceremonial 'flag off of the Volunteer Cyclists and the convoy from

LauhYatra venue in the morning in presence of dignitaries/officials. Other cyclists using

their bicycles could also be encouraged to join for about 3-5 km subject to traffic

conditions. City In-charge would be responsible to identify the point from where such

Nodal Officer/In-charge

1. Food Safety Commissioner would identify State Nodal Officer, CityTn-Charge and

Segment In-charge for all cities falling in their jurisdi~tion, Such officers could include

DOsor FSOsunder the state food safety departments. In case, one leg falls in two States,

there shall be Leg In-charge from each State, They would coordinate with each other for

smooth passage of the Convoy from one State to another.2. City in-chargewould coordinate with District administration to ensure necessary

permissions from local police for traffic and law and order arrangements and

permissions from other agencies including highway authority and local bodies as may

be required, He will also identify the LauhYatra Venue in the city that could easily

accommodate the convoy including parking of vehicles in the convoy, the participants

and the expected crowd on all three occasions, namely reception, 'PrabhatPheri' and

flag off,He would be present at all events and activations in the city.

3, Segment In-charge will identify 3-4 cities/towns for brief halt en-route. Hewill identify

breakfast, lunch, and refreshments of cyclists and crew. Segment In-charge would

accompany the convoy for the entire leg. lie would familiarize himself with the route

and halts in advance. He would use the standby vehicle (if provided by the food safety

commissioner) or could use vehicle with the crew.

Mobilization of Volunteer Cyclists and Registered Volunteers

1. Nodal Officers and In-charge would be responsible for mobilization of volunteer

cyclists with the help of the university, colleges, NCCOfficer, District Sports Officer etc.

Registration of volunteer cyclist would be done on portal www.lauhyatra.fssaLgov.ill.

Volunteer Cyclists would be provided bicycle and safety gear (on returnable basis).

They would also be given helmet, poncho, and T-shirt as takeaway.

2. Registered volunteers (80 persons) would be provided T-shirt for prabhatpheri.

State/Districts may arrange additional T-shorts, caps etc.

Refreshments, Meals and Accommodation

1. Dinner and accommodation on Day '0' and breakfast, lunch and dinner on Day '1' for

crew about 25 persons is to be arranged. Breakfast and lunch for crew and cyclists

(about 50 persons) has to be arranged on Day 2.

2. Refreshments for about 100 persons (cyclists, crew, media and dignitaries) for the meet

and greet function and flag off function is to be organised. Refreshments would also be

required to be arranged for 200 persons or more for function after prabhatpheri.

3. Drinking water would be arranged for all three occasions, reception, 'prabhatpheri' and

flag off. This would be arranged by FSSAIthrough major packaged drinking water

companies.

4. Meals, accommodation and refreshments may be arranged through voluntary support,from hotels and restaurants. Their participation should be dulY recognized in the

function by giving them a certificate of appreciation and partnership in the LauhYatra.

Food Safety on Wheels (FSW)

1. Food Safety Commissioner in consultation with Adviser (QA) of FSSAIwould ensure

that the FSWwith required staff and consumable for testing etc. is available throughout

within their States and be a part of the Convoy.2. I!1case of cross over in a leg from one State to another, accompanying FSWwill reach

the end point of State and the new State FSWwill take over at the border of the State.

Publicity and communication material

1. Publicity material including inflatable arch, runner board, foldable backdrop, flags for

flag-off, batons, 'Eat Right India' posters, theme posters and information flyers are

being through the Event Partner.2. Additional publicity should be organised by the States/ Districts both at stop overs

locations, and on the way from their own resources and by taking help of local food

businesses, other corporates, business associations, civic society organizations and

others.3. Volunteers and students may be mobilized by the States/ Districts asked to line up to

This events template is a guidance document for events during the Yatra. Individual stopoverlocations may customize or enhance it as per their specific requirements. As part of commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of MahatmaGandhi, the 'Lauh Yatra', a Pan India .Cyclothon would be flagged off from sixlocations across the country on 16t.'1 October, 2018, the World Food Day andculminate in a grand finale at NewDelhi on 27th January 2019. The 'CycleYatris'will pass through villages, towns and cities across the country to engage, exciteand ~~able citizens to eat right and improve their health and well-being. The 'LauhYatra' Convoywill be flagged off from six different locations in different parts of the
